Is this just Betta second release?

The more I play this game, the more I feel like this is still a Beta version.

It seems to me, we are paying for this game... so why do the DEVs say its not ready to be shown?

If its not ready, why are we paying for it?

I don't mean to be so bitter and harsh, but I feel this is a very serious question that must be looked at in order for this community to prosper.

My point is, I really like this game, and I don't want it to start falling apart.

Um we pay for it so the devs can eat and keep the game going. From what I can tell there was a time when they where running outta funds and thought about stopping development and selling out. The players offered to pay to keep things going, and here we are.

I don't think this game is gonna fall apart any time soon, the devs are just working on the big stuff, once it's done the little things will be easy.

Look at it this way. Would you rather a gravel foundation on your house or a cement one? Gravel would take no time to make, but give it some time and your whole house is falling apart. All good things take time.

Excellently put, Borb II! /me applauds

We have seen far too many of these threads lately. Far too many.
(because you know, Vendetta will ALWAYS have a core group of supporters. You'll see them in IRC, and they will never lose faith, and never go away. So everything is fine. Chill out.)

Borb, I agree with you entirely.

I am not going to leave anytime soon, its just I have seen a lot of people become unhappy and I thought it should be addressed.

Borb's got it.

Now all we need is patience; I for one have got it in spades.

Is any of that history mentioned where he devs were working practically unpaid and desperately seeking endorsement? It just seems people should be given a heads up as to part of the reason why they pay. The game *is* lacking compared to other pay-for-play games, but it has a bit different history to it.

You where not there at the time so no you would not need heads up.

Also $10 is what it costs to play VO, last time I looked it was at least $30 for any of the other games out there that VO is compared to. And that does not include other hidden fees you may find.

I pay because i like this game. Because i feel that the potential here is worth paying for to support the devs while they complete the game.

If they wanted to they could develop vendetta without charging, albeit at a much slower pace. They are masters of the shoestring budget, having run the alpha test as a free and open engine test for 2+ years.
I pay because i want them to be able to work on it full time, not just as a partime job that they fit in when they aren't at their "real" jobs.

I pay because I believe in what they are trying to create, and I want a small company to produce a great game that turns the software industry upside down and shows the major multinational game corporations that the recycled pulp they put out isnt the only way to develop games.

I dont consider myself a "paying customer" I consider myself an "investor". My return wont be monetary however, it will be in a product that i can truly have fun playing. A product that I can say "I was a part of that before it became a legend"; and make no mistake, when vendetta hits its potential, it WILL be a legend.

Guildsoftware is specifically not marketing vendetta as hard as they could because they prefer to think of us as investors as well. Instead of getting one big publisher that would demand a huge chunk of the profits and force development in certain directions or withold funding, Guild has enough dedicated small investors like myself (I have been quietly waiting for a game like this since I played games like "elite", "X-wing", and "wing commander") to keep themselves financially solvent and continue a modest development pace in the direction THEY want the game to go.

They are kind enough, and interested enough, to solicit our opinions on the game, and even to implement them when they find that the ideas are sound and make the game more interesting.

Lastly I pay because vendetta is just too addictive to give up. If i dont have a VO fix at least 4 times a week i start to shake and enter withdrawal. I'd be on much more except that work is just taking all of my time lately.

I was alpha and beta tester and GLADLY continue paying for the tremendous potential this game has! Although, I don't play as much.

I would also like to add, I think we might be flying in space(not killing each other) before this game is "ready". snark

I wish the system was never expanded to it galactic proportion until other issues such as CONTENT and SHIP balancing were tweaked FIRST.

so the l33t hardcore vendetta players who are (more or less) happy with the game can play, along with what other players said.
tis' fun.

I'm just gonna chime in with another shoulder-pat for Borb.

That's the one and only reason we pay, because we love the game and want it to keep going.

I can quit vendetta whenever I want to... :p

I pay to support Guild Software. They are a what's called a small business. A mom and pop shop if you will. I undrstand this structure completely. Been there done that. Small business is the backbone of the country. I would much rather give Guild cash for a product that the entire comunity has input with, than something like Sony, where the Devs are 20 levels away from the players, and corporate managers make the decisions for content. They have made a great product, and keep making it better. I have no reason the believe that this will change. Have faith. Like Spellcast said, one day you'll be able to look back on the legend, and say "I knew it when it was this little game...."
