*** Vendetta 1.8.307
- New prototype DirectX 11 driver has been added. To try it out, go to Options -> Video -> Change driver... and select 'DirectX11 GKGL driver'. Multiple dynamic lights are enabled with this driver if your GPU supports DirectX 11-level features. Dynamic lights include weapon fire, rocket/missile/ship exhaust, and explosions.

Note: The Oculus Rift has not been tested in DirectX 11 mode.

- Corvus Greyhound (and Painted variants) changed from 250 to 190 thrust, 8250 to 7500 armor.

I'm very excited to finally see renderer changes (for the first time in at least a couple of years?). Anyone with a windows box want to post some screenshots?
Oct 18, 2014 incarnate link
It's really the dynamics of moving lights that are the most interesting looking. Each laser shot illuminating the surface of an asteroid or station, etc. Static screenshots will look kinda interesting, but not really give the full impression.

Also, more info available in the newspost.

Here's a small album of the new features I cared to test.

Notes:
-Video Options for DX11 are sparse compared to DX9.
-The light reflections do not interact with ice crystals.
-There seems to be performance issues when coming into close proximity with various objects such as Constellations or Stations. It might be a texture render thing because even if I go to Camera View #4 and get as close as possible to the ship texture the frame rates take a dive but then rise as I move away.
-Rockets have a much brighter (larger) light reflection which isn't necessarily an issue.

This is probably for the Xbox port. Guild Software must be after those Microsoft billions.

Why does a Behemoth XC strafe faster than a greyhound now?
Oct 18, 2014 Kierky link
Oh shut up.
Oct 18, 2014 TheRedSpy link
The greyhound nerf is retarded. It never needed the buff when lecter first suggested it at all. It needs to be reverted back to its 2012 model.

Shut up? No I will not. There's no reason a 30,110kg CARGO ship should strafe faster than a 5000 kg ship.
Oct 18, 2014 cellsafemode link
Yea, because everyone uses the xc to fly around an empty weaponless ship for fun. It has the thrust it has so you can actually move it when loaded. Which is its only purpose.
Oct 18, 2014 Inevitable link
EC-101&104 have the same amount of thrust now. The ec-107 actually has more thrust. You guys are nuts.
Oct 18, 2014 Surbius link
Call me when you lose to an XC in head-to-head combat.
Oct 18, 2014 cellsafemode link
Inevitable is constantly getting killed by xc's and ec's. He demands they be nurfed so he can effectively swarm hound and run again without an xc taking him out

What makes you think the XC strafes better than a Greyhound? The numbers don't agree. For comparison:

Valk X-1: 225 N / 3100 kg = 0.07258 N/kg
Corvult: 230 N / 3800 kg = 0.06053 N/kg
EC-107: 210 N / 3700 kg = 0.05676 N/kg
Vulture MkIII: 220 N / 4000 kg = 0.055 N/kg
WTD: 275 N / 5300 kg = 0.05189 N/kg
EC-101: 190 N / 4200 kg = 0.04222 N/kg
Greyhound: 190 N / 5000 kg = 0.038 N/kg (formerly 250 N / 5000 kg = 0.05 N/kg)
Warthog MkI: 220 N / 6000 kg = 0.03667 N/kg
EC-89: 140 N / 4200 kg = 0.0333 N/kg
Behemoth: 500 N / 30000 kg = 0.01667 N/kg
Behemoth XC: 350 N / 30000 kg = 0.01167 N/kg

Of course, these are empty weights. Still, you'd have to put more than ten tons of gear onto the Greyhound before it would strafe worse than an unladen XC, let alone an XC that is doing XC-like things.

The Hound is now roughly on par with the Warthog MkI in strafing and much worse at turning (5.5 Nm of torque vs. 7.0 Nm, using the same frame). It can certainly outfight an XC, however. It may have more difficulty dodging gats and swarms though, which could be a boon for normal Moth pilots. This will also make dodging the strike force and defense turrets more difficult when you're trying to simultaneously shoot at people. I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing; it's a tradeoff on the ease with which a Hound can penetrate borders (when the borders aren't erroneously firing at you before you have control of your ship, anyway).

I don't agree that a nerf of that magnitude was actually needed (thanks to the crappy torque), but neither do I think it ruined anything.

I never put swarms on a hound mate.

I also said faster not better.
Oct 18, 2014 Sieger link
Thank you for the Hound update devs! I like it.
Oct 18, 2014 incarnate link
I already made a statement related to the hound, which is available here. If someone wants to create a Suggestions thread asking for it to be buffed the other way, then do so, with a compelling argument for why it needs improved strafing for its specific designated role. I'd rather avoid further discussion of it on here.

So, in other news, is the DX11 stuff working for most people?
Oct 18, 2014 Pizzasgood link
"I also said faster not better."

Well, they didn't change the speed. That's the same as it always was.

I have some trouble with the drivers. Everything is updated. It is not creating a smooth image. When I went back to 9 the colors had changed, lots of reds bleeding. 8.1 is not working. If I can not resolve it I will email you.
