Am I the only one who has the desire to start killing all the sheep violently and in the form of a blood sacrifice?

"•Show me yours and I'll show you mine." Yeah right. These days the boy gets charged with sexual assault.

Wow! 5 pages to this thread!!! You guys are great!

I did add disclaimer stuff to both voupr.com and the plugin itself. If anyone want it re-worded, let me know, until then enjoy the plugin!

Oh, just on a side note, when I collect price data, the player name is not even logged, nor is his/her location. Yes, I could do that, but tracking folks is not the main reason for the data collection.

The password is used only to tell if the user is a TGFT member or not. Randomly assigned so you don't have to even deal with it. Not used to find alts, but yes it could be if needed. But it's not needed.

Load of poppycock Lisa.

main function of your spyware is FINDING PLAYERS IPs, TRACKING PEOPLE MOVEMENT AND LOCATIONS, CHECKING THEIR INVENTORIES & FINDING ALTS.

The fact that you started making changes to your spyware as soon as we brought out in the open what it really does and how TGFT uses it does not mean that your 'honey pot' scam suddenly turned into a free lunch with no strings attached.
You may repack it into a nicer package with flowers on top but it's still an ugly scam as it was when we started talking about it.

Lisa, you have a little over a day left.
May 17, 2015 Savet link
To Rin's point earlier, the page was updated in response to this thread. Lisa updated the verbiage to reflect the concerns in this thread. That being said, I would change this verbiage from:

Collects data on sectors, players that you encounter and price data for items in stations.

To:

Description: Collects, transmits, and downloads data which is helpful for trading activities.

Disclaimer: Collects and transmits data on sectors, players that you encounter and price data for items in stations. Data translated is not anonymous and will provide information about your location and those around you to TGFT. Analysis of this data could reveal sensitive details about your characters movements, travel companions, and be used to identify alternate characters.

Add Savet's disclaimer above, and I'll refrain from revealing TGFT council alts in a little over a day (using data i obtained that was collected by TGFT Utils).

I support the notion of a clear disclaimer.

But I am not getting involved at this stage, and bojan is being way too hyperbolic. Please stop bringing up "IP addresses". Yes, they are needed to move information on the Internet. Any plugin with a remote database is logging IP addresses, since they almost all hit a webserver, which has an access_log. Or you could just play through a TOR node?

This is not the first plugin to do this kind of thing, nor will it be the last. You are willingly taking unsupported, un-audited code written by other people and running it on your game clients. There is a very good reason why we don't make this stuff easier to install.. because I am not going to certify what is happening in all these plugins. The plugin system was created to allow individuals to play around with building their own features, in their own clients, with "user beware" being very inherent to the concept of using other people's scripts.

Similarly, I am not going to patrol these bits of unsupported and often-broken code, and make sure they fit specific ethical guidelines regarding gameplay-data. As was mentioned before, it would require a much more significant breach of the player's system (beyond the sandbox) to elicit that kind of reaction from me. But, all that being said, I would prefer a site disclaimer about the ramifications of the data.

If this really gets out of hand, we'll handle it in the game client, and increase the player's awareness and mechanics for opting in and out of certain APIs (like networking). But, our schedule is a little dense right now, and this is a bit of a storm in a teacup.

Please dial down the hyperbole, especially the use of the term "SPYWARE" in game chat. We are now receiving negative reviews from confused mobile players who (from reading chat) believe our game may include spyware that will potentially reveal their critical billing information.

THIS IS NOT SPYWARE. This is a sandboxed script-doohicky in an MMO-client, that distributes some additional game-specific information (that you willingly make available by running it).

TGFT deliberately tried to deceive the user base by withholding information about said plugin and you don't like the negative attention it's receiving. No sympathy here. You make your bed.
May 18, 2015 RoboticMechanicalJeb link
Withhold information? For all I know TGFT didn't withhold any information.
May 18, 2015 bojansplash link
Incarnate, this is a thread in RP forum so hyperbolic tone is expected and pretty much normal here.

I informed you about this thread and you had a chance to stop this before it gets out of hand.
You decided that ethical and moral ramifications of having this kind of plug-in in VO are irrelevant and, as a result, you are now facing an angry crowd.

The fact is, as subscribed VO players, we did sign a contract with GS to use our private and game data in VO gameplay but we did not sign the contract with the TGFT as the third party to use any kind of our data.

Without a disclaimer on that plug-in to point out what that software really does and GS warning stating that GS is not responsible for the 'misuse' of data collected by that plug-in - this is a very shady deal.

Even with disclaimer it will still be a shady deal but, at least, people installing it will know what they are getting into.

How many more polite words will incarnate have to find to tell you to finally shut the hell up, bojansplash? Everything has been discussed now.
Nobody is forcing you to download this plugin. If you demand an edit of the Disclaimer, approach Lisa201 in-game for it and drop the whining here.

Once again, mainly two of you forum heroes have managed to hurt the game more than to benefit it. If you had been really worried about privacy and your personal infomration, you could have easily sent in a ticket and the devs would surely have atleast looked at the plugin a little closer and made their decision. Instead, you made a useless forum thread so that every last troll can give his opinion and stir crap.
In nice addition to it, you coded your 100-spambots to spread warnings about "spyware" and malicious software in the game. If you were as much as an expert as you like to sound, you could have forseen that android newbies immediately run to the store and give the game a bad rating and chosen the more safe part as I suggested above. But you did not!
Well. Congratulations gentlemen!

Final note:
DON'T USE THE WORD "SPYWARE" OR ANY WORDS WITH "MALICIOUS SOFTWARE" ETCHED IN IT IN 100, IT MAKES NEWBIES CONFUSED AND SKEPTICAL

Now, someone close this stupid discussion.
May 18, 2015 Roda Slane link
There is no reason for the plugin to report the name of the character that is collecting the information, other than alt discovery. Installing the plugin is a disadvantage to any player that wishes to avoid alt discovery.

+1 to vlad. close this stupid thread now...
