can someone tell me why i cant connect to the game? i get a message saying: unable to connect to the Guild
Software udpate server! please re-run the application to retry.

If you are behind a firewall you may need to forward ports to your internal IP address. The updater needs to use TCP port 21024. Upon completion the game will start. Once you attempt to login the game will need to use UDP port 21141.

i have already been playing this game for almost two months though and havent had problems until now.

Were you able to play before the recent patch and then unable after? If so, you might try briefly disabling your firewall/antivirus software and trying to log in again. If that works, you will need to allow Vendetta manually.

Disabling that didnt do anything. I still get the same message.
Does anyone know what else i could do to try to get back on?

The last day i played was the day of the update. After that i wasnt able to play anymore.

Carlos, it's most likely something on your side. We didn't change any protocol-level stuff in any updates, so as far as the internet is concerned.. the game is the same as it ever was.

Are you at a college, or on some sort of shared network? Is there any sort of local admin you can ask about this? The information Lemming posted would be relevant to them.

I've been out of the game for Friday and Sat due to travel. Today, after the updater did it's thing, I attempted to connect to the game but froze my system twice right after the password page. I had to restart both times. I deleted my config.ini before the third time, and got a previously unseen warning window from my Norton firewall that requested handling instructions for vendetta.rlb. I permitted the file and things work properly now (except that I have to fix my settings). This is on an extremely stable Win XP system.

EDIT: Carlos - Did you try deleting the confi.ini file? Doing so unmasked an error window that I would have missed otherwise. Also, we've advised people to turn off their firewall before (I think it was the XP built-in deal) and have had them say they did this...but then later they've written back to say that it had somehow enabled itself. Worth a look.

If nothing else can be done then there`s only one option left... and I dont like that option. If anyone just looks at this it would help if you could just type something that could somehow help with the problem. Because so far nothing has worked.

I'm sorry you're having these problems. As Incarnate said, it is almost certainly something specific to your system/connection. After all no one else is having this problem. More information about your connection and software might help us come up with suggestions. For instance, what operating system are you running? If its windows, which version and service pack? WinXP service pack 2 has a built in firewall that might get in the way. How is your computer connected to the net? Do you use dialup? DSL? Cable? Is there a router between your computer and cable/dsl modem? What type of router (brand/model)? You might try removing the game and reinstalling from scratch (though I doubt it would do anything). You might try calling your ISP's tech support line. Anyway, we'll be happy to help, but I don't have anything really helpful to say without more information.

Just a quick note to say that I again had the same freezing issue after the most recent patch. I deleted the config.ini and ran Vendetta again, saw the Norton window about allowing vendetta.rlb, allowed it, and have been problem-free since.

Operating system: Windows XP
Internet Connection: Dial-up
Service Pack: Dont Know
Router: None
Network: None
Firewall: Disabled

As for uninstalling and reinstalling the game that didnt work. Also how do I delete my config.ini?

can you open a command line (MS Dos command prompt) and type:

ping 204.11.209.42

and press enter, then do:

ping update.guildsoftware.com

and hit enter, then post what those commands return.

Guild, one funny thing, reverse-mapping update.guildsoftware.com has interesting results:

$ host 204.11.209.42
Host 42.209.11.204.in-addr.arpa not found: 2(SERVFAIL)

Try what terjekv suggests.

Also: verify your XP service pack by going clicking your Windows "Start" button, then the Control Panel, then the System Icon. Your Service Pack info will be in the window you see there. You may have both the XP and a 3rd party firewall going.

What are you using for a firewall?
What are you referring to when you ask about "settings"? If you deleted the game, your settings should be gone.

How do I open an MS Dos command prompt? by settings I mean vendetta rlb. Oh and i also have windows service pack 2

if you have the english version:

Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> MS-Dos command line (or something similar, the icon is a small black box with blue trimmings -- as far as I remember.)

Or, in any version, as far as I know, you can go to start->run and run "cmd".

Your settings are in a couple different .ini files, but as FM said, if you actually removed the whole game and reinstalled it, your settings should be completely reset to defaults.

Ummm... what do I do after that or what was that supposed to do?
Aug 27, 2005 Forum Moderator link
You mean after you open the command prompt?

You do what rerjekv suggested:

"type:

ping 204.11.209.42

and press enter, then do:

ping update.guildsoftware.com

and hit enter, then post what those commands return."

That will give us an idea of any internet problems you might be having.
