Auto-Fire function failing to function on players.

May 12, 2015 JHX link
(Firstly forgive me if i am posting incorrectly, this is my first post on this forum)

Whilst practising my combat abilities with some friends, I discovered that, even when in a duel and even when i was damaged by the opposing ship, no matter how hard i tried (yes i had set my weapons to the primary fire button), the auto-fire would not trigger, meaning that i was forced to fire manually (not easy on a touchscreen). At first I thought this was meant to happen against players but then confirmed that it was a bug with a friend.

I am running the game on an ipad mini with the latest IOS, but this bug seems to be universal on mobile devices as my friend was playing on an android device.

Please look into this, as it is now almost impossible to pvp on mobile. (Well for me at least :P)

(I searched the forums but could not find a thread related to this, delete this thread if it is in fact a repeat please)

I've run into the same thing, and ultimately have to end up shooting by hand which makes fighting on mobile a lot tougher, especially if the phone's screen thinks your two touches on the left side for alt-fire and strafe are just one touch in between both buttons.

Hmmmm done some more testing, seems to be it only fails against members of the same guild? Not sure atm, and yeah I agree ARF if fighting on mobile wasn't hard enough already :P

The autofire only fires upon others that are marked as hate according to GetFriendlyStatus.
Unfortunately that check is too conservative sometimes. We'll look into at least letting duel mode override it so you can autofire in duels.

Cool Thanks! Just some extra info in case it helps, faction standing has nothing to do with whether it triggers or not, for example the Serco hate me and Itani admire me, but autofire triggers and fails to trigger with equal frequency on both, at least from what ive seen

It'd be cool if it had a special case for PvP/PvE group missions like the Border Skirmishes too. If another player is playing for the enemy's team, it's fair to assume that they're a target.

JHX, you aren't using a plugin that changes whether people are hostile or friendly on the radar, are you? Because those would interfere with this feature since they work by replacing the GetFriendlyStatus function. (Relevant plugins include MakeFriends, DopplerHostility, and HUM.) This is not necessarily a bad thing because it could give you a means to better control who you shoot at, but if you aren't aware of the effect then it could lead to confusion.

Nope, no plugins. And ARF that would be a nice feature!
