Instead of "Freeloader" this could be "Government Employee", "Government Worker" (oxymoron) or some variation thereof.

Serco Warrior: Enlist in the Serco Military
Serco Legion of Merit: Kill 200 Itani's while enlisted
Serco Medal of Valor: Kill 500 Itani's while enlisted
Serco Medal of Honor: Kill 1000 Itani's while enlisted
Serco Defensive Cross: Participate and Win 100 Deneb Battles
(All of these would have Itani equivalents, and could be awarded to UIT based on their national allegiance).

Marksman: 25 Railgun PKs
Sharpshooter: 50 Railgun PKs
Expert: 100 Railgun PKs
(Reflecting US Military shooting badge levels)

On a rank system, if it was implemented, I would say PK's against the hostile nation should determine rank as well as license levels.
(Based on US Navy ranks as they seem to be most common for space)
----------------------------------------
Seaman: 0-9PKs, + 3/3/3/0/0
Petty Officer: 9-19 PKs + 3/3/3/0/0
Ensign: 20-45 PKs + 6/6/6/3/3
Lieutenant: 46-70 PKs + 6/6/6/6/6
Lt. Commander: 71-100 PKs + 9/9/9/6/6
Commander: 101-125 PKs + 9/9/9/9/9
Rear Admiral: 126-175 PKs + 11/11/11/9/9
Vice Admiral: 176-250 PKs + 12/12/12/10/10
Fleet Admiral: 251-350 PKs + 12/12/12/12/12
Commodore: 350+ PK's + 12/12/12/12/12

Badges for using the new ship turrets --> unlock more powerful turrets

Badges for trading some specific goods (rhums, spices) on dangerous routes -->get better buy prices as recognition from producing industry

Temporary badges, assigned on a periodic basis, according to a top list (hive hunter of the week, trader of the week, etc) that players compete to get, and offer them some advantage (access to weapons, better prices)

Badges for participating in group missions

Badges for mining or being on mining support in hostile environment

Badges for killing KOS (not counting natural serco/itan kos, rather uit/gray bounty hunting)

Wow, let's really just suggest 500 badges to display. Fuck this, fix the economy first. Then we can get to this minor stuff.

Btw, a lot of these badge ideas suck.

Someone had to say it.
Jun 14, 2009 Whytee link
Yes they do vskye. But some of them are actually interesting.

It is, as I believe Inc has said so many times before, not a question of creating something in a linear fashion. While two devs work of unborking the economy, one dev on unborking the faction system, one dev could easily and without interfering with the others in the slightest and without taking resources away from the others, create new stuff for the game in a fast and non-messy way.

I mean how game-unbalancing is more badges? They are a quick result that makes people log on, especially for lack of other content. Who will have the first Piracy badge Mk III for killing 1000 moths? Who will have the first Deneb Battle Honour Mk II for slaying 500 opposition pilots? And for the complete gits like me, who gets the first Helio mining VII for 500,000,000 crates mined?''

While a lot of the (non-mining) badges are off the scale regarding implementing them, this is a brainstorm. And I really hope that the devs will implement a select few and pop them into the game whenever they make (sorry to say it) boring updates like stability issues and voice chat related stuff. I want my bone:)

Indestructibus- Take 50,000 damage in the same free ship.
Pecking out the liver- Destroy an enemy SkyCommand Prometheus
Clipping the wings- Destroy an enemy Valkyrie X-1 (is that what it's called?)
Watch my six- score 50,000 damage in a Behemoth or Atlas turret.
Down with pirates- after being attacked while carrying more than 20cu, destroy your assailant.
Planetary intergalactic- Visit every system.
Explosive personality- Destroy an enemy ship after dying with your explosion.
Dizzy duelist- Barrel roll 1000 times while engaged in a duel.
Have another badge- Earn 50 badges.
Neutronian physics- While going 200m/s+, destroy an enemy with an energy weapon.
Taste the rainbow- equip 4 energy weapons with different hues at once, and kill an enemy.
Use the force- achieve a speed of over 1000m/s.

I could make a ton more, but I think these are a bit silly. All the same, it would be better to think outside the get X kills, do X damage box.

I think this is actually not that bad an idea, assuming that a LOT of badges are released,

If you have an absolute ****-ton of badges and you don't reveal how many there are, or what they're for, people will get them just in the course of their typical process and could say a lot about a person

EDIT: But seriously? PVP specialist III at 5000 pks? I don't even have 5000 pk's yet... ~600 to go, but still..

You could also have badges which require other badges,

for example, if you have the 100 pk badge AND you have a pk/death ratio of 2 or higher:

"I have 2 guns, one for each of you" 100pk High Ratio Award

500 pk badge with 2 or higher:

"Do I feel lucky?" 500pk High Ratio Award

1000 pk badge with 2 or higher:

"River Tam" 1000 pk High Ratio Award

the "River Tam" badge should be reserved for pilots who recite children's poems/giggle while killing.
