Why 800cu is ridiculous.

It speaks for itself.

What's ridiculous about holding 8 small fighters?
Nov 15, 2013 TerranAmbassador link
No it doesn't? What's the problem here?

Valkryies are not small fighters. They are light, but they are not small. They should be 150cu to begin with.

Fitting eight players in any ship the size of a trident is pretty remarkable.

The X-1 is tiny. It's smaller than a vulture in almost every dimension.

"try to be objective about this arf..."

I am. They're both objects and have a clearly defined size.

What's the problem?

The models don't fit inside the ship, it's as simple as that. 8 Vultures is also absurd. If you care to dispute that, post a photo of 8 valkryies arranged alongside a trident in any dimension you choose

800cu is not ridiculous. It is after all a support ship. I was surprised that is was so little to begin with. It's not like it's a fighter class ship. It's a capital support ship.
I'd be annoyed if a Teradon had 800cu because of its firepower. But the Trident can barely shoot hive bots.

Title is misleading, 8 ships is ridiculous.

800cu of cargo has never been ridiculous and nor has 1400cu for its gameplay effect. People can move 1400cu of cargo big deal, that's never been a problem, it's the advent of ships fitting in as cargo that makes it ridiculous.

Armour, weaponry, shields are among considerations that are irrelevant

Many of these models do not fit 8x inside a trident. And if you think it's a trivial matter that things retain a modicum of realism when it comes to scale you should take a look outside at the world of space sims. Other games won't just let you manually park your ship inside galactica or whatever, but they will let you hop out and walk around so you can visibly inspect the scale yourself.

Scale matters.

people seem to be forgetting that tridents are the lowest capship level, holding 8 fighters seems like something a connie would be able to do.

Teradons are also really skinny. I don't know where they'd put a cargo hold.

TRS, go right ahead. While you're at it, do a size comparison of all the other ships in the game too so people will stop insisting that we need to cram 4 'moths into a Trident. :)

Anyway, by that logic a lot of ships need to have their cargo holds adjusted, big time. Where the heck do you stuff 24cu into a Warthog or EC?

Yeah, and you only build 4 docking bay hangars when you make a Trident Type M...
Though, I'd expect a connie to hold a heck of a lot more than just 8. Those things are huge.

How long is a piece of string ARF, we have no comparison size for a cu, we do however have comparison sizes for ships and we have a table that decides how big each of those ships will be in cu which means it can be trivially adjusted.

No behemoths should fit in a trident, as evidenced by the fact that they shot out of the backs of them like cannons when the mesh was more strictly enforced.

"How long is a piece of string ARF, we have no comparison size for a cu,"

From the wiki...

... in the game, 1 cu of water is 100 kg, given that water is 1000 kg/m³ that means a "cu" is 0.1 m³ (excluding the mass of the container, of course)...

Therefore, 10cu = 1 cubic metre. Simples.

That said, TTM's have 4 docking bays. Says so right in the recipe. But, we also have top speeds because the gameplay is better. Is it critical to get the details spot on if the gameplay is worse for it?

its tangental, faille
Nov 15, 2013 Faille Corvelle link
Its late, and I'm tired... point is, we have a frame of reference for the volume of a cu.

It's not tangential. I'm making a point here. You're arguing a game mechanic versus spatial "reality."

The question I have for you is: Why is this a problem at all from a gameplay perspective? If a Trident captain wants to load up their entire cargo hold with fighters so nobody has any room to dock, why not let them?

This change hasn't even been around for 12 hours or seen ANY trials in PvP to see how it affects the game and you're already crying about it. Nobody's had a chance to even try it, not even you. This screenshot is from the PCC test server.

Lets not forget the fact that it is close to impossible to get 9 players of the same allegiance on at the same time

I suppose if I just wanted to let anyone even my enemies dock with valks then i could load up with 8

It's tacky, it was always tacky to have 4 behemoths in there, it was always tacky to have more ships in there than the model physically represents. Who would complain about a constellation that had 800cu, carried 8 light fighters? nobody, so add a constellation that has 800cu or more, that is the preferable course of action here, not add so many damn ships to the trident that nobody in their right mind could believe that there is any modicum of realism there whatsoever.

Also, I dont think anybody would complain if the mission requirements to construct the trident were actually those to construct the constellation. Those should also be reviewed but not here.
