Fog-of-War style Uncharted space
When you start out with a new character, there shouldn't be so much we can see.
As it stands, we can see everything, no problem.
I propose for all new characters, you begin with being able to see your nation space, and that's pretty much it. On the navmap, the systems not yet explored (greyspace, plus the two other nation spaces) should be greyed out, and named "Unexplored System".
Warring factions can see one system into their border enemies' space. (Itani can see Geira and Serco can see Deneb).
The method for exploring unexplored space is simple, when you enter an unexplored system, your current sector, and a 3x3 (more if this is too grind-like?) grid centered at your current sector will become visible. This includes, wormholes, bots sighted, stations, etc.
I think this would give newbies a sense of exploration, mystery and danger to "Grey" space.

I quite like this idea.

This might be a bit much for players just starting out without some additional changes in missions- ie. Beginner Combat directing players to collector only bots.
I was just thinking something similar the other day so I fully support this for non starter systems, and including beginner systems with sensible modifications to the existing mission system.

"you begin with being able to see your nation space"
This includes the Capitol systems and any of your races nation space.

As much as I like exploration, this makes little sense. I've never been to North Korea... but I do have detailed maps of the area. I think unmapped new systems is the way to go.

Yeah, I've been looking at this for the "expanded universe" since Alpha. It's definitely on my radar. We need a more dynamic mapping system, first.
-1 for existing maps since this is the future after all and maps have existed of this region of space for centuries.
+1 for doing this in new territory found after today.

It makes sense for new system, but not the ones we have now. Those have been mapped and remapped multiple times over centuries.

That doesn't mean a new pilot will have access to that data. See, e.g., EVN.

Maybe you could pay for a complete map of the universe for 500 million credits?
+1 as a recently subscribed newb I was somewhat dissapointed in the lack of any pure exploration possibility. While maybe the home system and the universe of avail systems being mapped already was more than enough, I would have enjoyed having to actually go to a sector and scan it to map it in my ship comp.
The newbs have spoken!
