Trident Chop-Shop

as mentioned here, and suggested in various ways via "deconstruct" missions among others:

Make the path to a Trident Type S or Type P a modification of a completed Type M. Or at least provide it as one of the paths to those variants, rather than "from scratch" or other method you may have in mind.

e.g.:

Manufacture the Trident Type S
You will need:
1 Trident Type M
1 Siepos Master Computer
1 Siepos Sensor array
2 80MW Pulse-Displacement Engines (going by the teaser pic that had 4 total)
…maybe a few RBH &/or FFSA &/or FCP for hull alterations, but not too much
…maybe a few sundries, but nothing painful to obtain
...maybe 10 or 20 Million credits labor

You will receive:
1 Trident Type S
1 Milanar Master Computer (if you are feeling kind)
1 Milanar Sensor Array (ditto)

I know there are a few people sitting on complete kits. A word from devs might get them to build now :)

I agree with this. It should be the same for Type-P.

I think you should get the Master Computer back from the deconstructed trident, but not the Optical Sensor. We can't have people just swapping when they feel like it. Maybe One IBA, 2 RBH and 10 of each FFSSA and FCP.

Why is your goal to make it tedious, it was already tedious once.

CD has the right idea While Kierky must like cutting themselves or something

Once was enough.

Why not?

I'm with CrazySpence on this one.

Losing an optical sensor would not be too painfull - getting the optics is pretty easy. its a fair price in my opinion.

A single mission to dismantle the trident into sub assemblies would be better then trying to make missions to convert each type into the other types or perhaps it could return a trident hull sub assembly that the normal crafting mission could accept instead of all the normal crafting items limiting the rebuild to tridents only.

Having trident hulls would also make kits a lot easier to use as well.

First and foremost I think it would be unfair for the devs to give any hint as to what would be required to build or access a new ships BEFORE it's available. It would allow certain players a significant advantage.

CD and others just want the quick and easy way to make the next capship. There is no other reason or precedent in VO to justify a dis-assembly and salvage of parts of a ship. Yet.

Honestly I think this is an echo of the complaint about the TTM mission -- which is that it's ungodly laborsome. I'd rather see a reduction in requirements of capital ship building in general, rather than giving existing trident owners the fastpath towards a new variant.

Assuming the primary reason for the ridiculous amount of work involved in building a TTM is based on securing subscriptions, I think the Devs should introduce new capital ship weaponry (for turrets and weapons ports) that must be manufactured via significant undertakings. This would allow them to further cut the mission requirements down for the TTM itself, with the assumption that anyone who builds one will also want the various capship-only addons to remain competitive and defensible. *reposted as new suggestion*

Because I'm known for only suggesting things that will serve the one style of gameplay you know me for? Maybe others are interested in that, Greenwall, and I don't really see anything wrong with them wanting it, but I personally don't mind the scope of the TTM mission. I have enough pre built to do anything I want when they release variants. I'm championing the people who have held out for three years with complete kits, when the variant computers and sensors were introduced almost 4 years ago, just 2 weeks after the Millanar versions.

Unless the variants are completely different hull types, or even different classes, the concept of large vessel re-fits is how navies have operated for centuries to maximize the service life of capital assets.

and if not yet, when?

+1 totally.

I don't see anything big enough that stands against this suggestion. It's only fair to those who have taken the effort to build a Trident. Would make no sense to not give them the decision which model they want to fly just because they finished earlier before the soon coming Types were released.

We should be able to modify between simmilar capship models.
