Yes, everyone should be able to get access to everything, but not because the faction system is weak and allows people to have high standing with two warring factions. Forcing exclusivity creates a market demand. Allowing players to trade ships can then help promote trade and interaction.

I always figured that Serco pilots are literally plugged in to their ships via implants, whereas you'd need crazy concentration and a zen-like focus to pilot a Valkyrie. It'd be impossible to do both unless the ship were custom modified for purpose!

Bullshit. I can fly a valkyrie just fine with a $20 joystick and a keyboard/Nostromo. Flying a VO-era space-fighter is actually simpler than flying a modern jet, because you don't have the complexities of atmosphere and gravity to deal with.

The Serco interface basically just makes reaction times faster, and the Itani achieve the same thing by being Jedi.
