VO needs another view to break into the world of eSports

I was away this weekend, so while I was traveling I went to youtube and watched some VO videos. Then I went and looked at other video game videos. One thing I noticed that other games have that we don't is some kind of commentator or spectator view. I even saw a battle match-up between two small forces in Eve with two commentators and a view of the battle that they could control. Now I know that battle in eve is dull but they were able to show the positions and health of the combatants, zoom in on the action, zoom out to an overall view of the positioning of the ships, etc.

If VO had such a thing it might be a useful tool to promote the game. It's use could be tied to the planned event system or something.

Though it would have to be done in a way that prevents spying exploits.

It could be implemented as an addon that is equipped to a capital ship and can be accessed while docked with the ship to look through the cockpit of other group members.

Good idea draugath. But that to me seems more like a thing the group commander can use to direct battle, which I think would be way cool, and something we should hopefully get too. Right now I'm thinking more of the ability for a designated third party to view the whole battle/event/whatever. Maybe the future 'event system' can have a way to designate one (or more) account to be able to view the event for it's duration in this new way. In my limited exposure I imagine it should be able to see the health of all the participants, grouped by teams, and be able to zoom in and out from any chosen angle. Any maybe some way to identify the pilots in the view.

As far as concerns with potential spying, only allow it for a limited and know list of sectors, like Sedina D2 for example, sectors with no strategic interest. And the devs can override that for their own marketing purposes, the list would just apply for mere mortal event organizers.

VO will never be an eSport.

To some degree, you can do that now. So long as you are within range of the targets, you can toggle through them. Just hit F9 until you're in independent mode. You can move around (albeit slowly and only with keys) and view things. It takes a bit of practice (due to being clunky), but it's doable.

This being said however, I agree that a more dedicated commentator mode should be allowed in VO. Heck, I'd like to see the ability to add an observer to your ship whenever you leave a station. This would be similar to commentator mode and would allow new players to see what you're seeing. It'd make for a good training tool.

+1 to OP.

VO will never be an eSport. It can be much bigger than that. We are talking about actual pace combat on a level no other space game has achieved. There would be people who would be diehard fans of watching and they might not even play the game. It would be the first ever space battle observing opportunity. It would have to implemented by having the devs broadcast lives feeds at angles in which they saw fit to prevent spying during battle. This could easily be fit into Nation War.
#1: more people would show up for NW, making it a better event that draws users in
#2: it would be very little cost for what I think would be a great spike in users
#3: it, without a doubt, would at least bring a few gaming sites to post something about this new feature, bringing VO that many more users.

So much more can be said, but I think this would be an excellent advertising idea that should definitely be jumped on soon before other "space" games try it.
+1 without a doubt
