Military Credits

Sep 21, 2014 Kierky link
Similar to the Crystal system recently introduced, some form of Access Control could be made for high-end military ships such as the Valkyrie/Prom/IBG/SVG and military spec weapons such as the Neutron Blaster MkIII. This would be a form of Military Credit.

This would be dependent on how often you perform sanctioned military operations as a military officer.
This would include:

- Participation in Border Skirmishes
Credits would be awarded due to overall participation and influence on the outcome of single skirmishes & the weekly result.

For example:
1/1/2/3 credit(s) could be awarded to each of the participants of a winning (fighter/small/medium/large) skirmish (participation would be determined by at least 1 casualty caused by the player).
10 credits would be awarded to each participant of the War where their side wins the week.
(Participation would be determined based on at least 3 skirmish participations)
1 credit would be awarded for every 2 player kills in a Border Skirmish.
1 extra credit would be awarded if your total kills + total assists >= 1/2 * Total casualty threshold for skirmish.

- Destruction of war convoy Vessels
Credits would be awarded based on the volume and class of ships destroyed.

For example:
Every 15 fighter-class ships destroyed would net 1 credit.
Every 2 Trident/Teradon-class ships destroyed/assists would net 1 credit.
Every Connie kill/assist would net 1 credit.

- CTC participation
Since CTC is considered a military operation for construction of N3's, this could be a reward for CTC participation. Credits would be awarded for various reasons.

For example:
Every 3 enemy transports killed would net 1 credit.
Every 20cu of Premium Xith delivered would net 1 credit.

hmm does your idea include access to these ships for UIT pilots?

At present, it could apply to UIT participants for the svg and ibg

I would rather see the rewards granted on the basis of casualties inflicted vs victories with bonus credit for missions that are won (particularly the medium, large and border battle) for the reason that someone taking a mission and launching to find out that the enemy is currently winning by 700 / 300 or similar would be more inclined to abort the mission than spend time trying to turn the tide.

I would be a little more generous in the allocation of credits. I would also prorate credits below a certain threshold for each mission size rather than full credit for a single casualty.

I'd also like to see something like this tide to a ranking system.

Beyond that, should there be something similar in place for UIT players to have access to the UDV?

Fluffy, nice points, and I'll explain why I've made it far less generous than you think it should be.

1. We *need* scarcity. VO currently suffers from an economy where everything is FAR too cheap, and missions are far too generous in rewards.

2. These ships are very high end, and represent thousands of years of research and military use. I should probably add something where these ships get a free replacement if used in the Wars themselves and explode. In addition to scarcity, when P2P trade for ships finalises, this will add another interesting element to it. Treason and such of the military.

That's interesting, and I agree with that..

The UDV isn't a "military" ship as such., and I don't think it should be regulated by the same kind of system. In relation to UIT serving in the Itani or Serco military, this system should replace the super high faction requirement for all players, and instead should be set to +600 faction standing plus the military credits to buy, so that UIT militants in the war have a legit claim to these ships given their involvement.
It would also be considered that "ownership" of a nations special ships proves that the member is military and actively participates in the War.

I'm not quite sure whether I'm in favor of this idea vs. other ways of handling military participation, and I'm leery about there being too many different types of currency to keep track of. That said, it's interesting and I definitely prefer this over the current situation.

MMORPGs are all about stats and lists and "to get this you need 12 of that"... adding one more system should be no big deal.

I like where Kierky is going with this suggestion, but I don't think it's there yet.

Essentially, I think military credits and rewards need to be associated with more than ship access (and the current XP/credits/standing). We need rewards for skimish performance AND finale outcome. And even within skirmishes, the rewards should be based on whatever would encourage the most participation. I.e. basing just on casualties inflicted would focus skirmishes on who can win the lottery on landing the kill shot on capships.

Good start though!

How about rather that a "currency" as such, participants in the war could earn "renown". Certain levels of renown would be required for different ships, and renown would decrease over time, requiring regular participation to maintain it (and thus maintain access to top tier ships/weapons).

+1 @dent. Overall this is a great idea, but I think dent's suggestion simplifies it a bit. Instead,of keeping track of another currency, I'd just have to keep, track of my renown level.
