Powercell Blaster Buff (mk2)

I don't think you need to be a pvp god to have an opinion, or even an informed opinion. I think you should be on par with a pvp god before you contradict a pvp god on an issue of pvp, unless you have some significant evidence to back it up. you do not have any such evidence. when i left, pather was a total noob that i would boom without effort. i have been back at least long enough to know who the pvp gods are, and your name never came up, but i would be happy to put you to the test. i doubt you will accept such an offer. velocity 150 truly sucks beyond compare. I suggested velocity 200 so it would pair will with typical high end weapons. I am all for killing tridents. but the power cell blaster drains at a rate of 5 to 1, and in an energy weapon fight, that is a big difference. i would hate to see two fighters deadlocked because they are spending all their energy draining each other's energy.

Well good news for you! Nobody is going to waste their time with a PCB to do that unless they are a) stupid or b) lulzing around. Since you are clearly basing your speculation on stats and not in-game use, I invite you to come in game and spend some time with the current PCB, and observe how it is used by others. As Sieger pointed out, it would take different changes than what I proposed to make the PCB useful in small ship PvP.

And, as a side thought: isn't being deadlocked essentially what high skill level energy pvp is already?

It would seem you are more concerned with not changing the dynamics of energy pvp than you are anything else in game. I understand what it's like to be comfortable with "how things are" and not want them to change. But you are being excessive in your caution. Does a PCB with 215 velocity have the potential to add a different "flavor" to highly skilled energy pvp? Sure, why wouldn't it? And, more importantly, why would that be a bad thing? Adding a new dimension to high level pvp would only be good for the game. That is a satisfactory minor side effect to buffing the PCB in a way that would make it worlds more effective against it's main target: Tridents.

While I am no PVP god, I am reasonably not horrible with energy. I offer the following thoughts on this discussion:

1. In order for any person to trade a damage weapon for a drain weapon in competitive PVP, the drain weapon needs to be easier to hit with than the damage weapon. A significant speed boost would accomplish this.

2. The speed boost isn't going to have any significant effect on head to head pvp where dual flares are a consistent weapon of choice, but could be an excellent mitigation to someone attempting to flee from a fight they are losing.

The current version is slower than a raven, which is also slower than a neut. This means that in order to have any benefit to equipping the PCB, I need to have a better chance to hit than I do with traditional weapons, which are going to provide a more immediate benefit and less work.

It makes sense to buff the speed significantly so there is a tactical reason to equip it over a weapon that causes damage.

I already +1'd this, but I want to say that Greenwall summed up the reasons the buff is needed especially since the auto aim has improved for dents... the chasing ships have to roll and dodge more now and can't be as close or as lined up with the dent. I also agree with Savet's observations.

Savet's point #1 is important to the discussion.

It gets me excited when Greenwall bumps me like that.

The increased velocity could also allow you to hit Tridents from a much further distance. That in itself is worth a buff.

Implemented, 1.8.335.

If it's imbalanced, we can always nerf it back a bit.

Hope it's a fun change :).
