Hold up...

Jun 26, 2004 HyperSpaz link
I was bored just now and decided to log into Vendetta. Upon arrival I realized that there was nothing to do that would be fun. I had already seen all of the systems, leveling is no longer rewarding, and everything else is either boring or monotonous. So...cra*. That feeling you *never* want to get when playing a video game. *EVER*. So now I ask the Devs...what will you do thaat will keep players entertained after they leveled? Will they just fly around? Will you make a war zone? Will you make hanging out sectors? Something must be done to prevent boredom ingame. A feeling of "Gee, done this before" is bearable in a game...but boredom is out of the question. Maybe this is because there aren't enough people (in which case the Devs should re-open the beta as they said they would), maybe it's because the game is still in development, but whatever it is, I sincerely hope it's fixed before release or Vendetta will crash and burn like alot of game's already have.

Yes. Please. The new universe is like a giant mansion with absolutly nothing in it but a bed and a refridgerator.

Maybe a couple hundred hidden sectors with uniqe features in each one could be added to keep players searching the universe for months, possibly years.

I think hidden mini-systems and stations would help make the new universe more fun. I for one think half of the fun comes from exploration. And the other half from combat.

HyperSpaz, people keep leveling :P. Its role-playing. You are in a MMORPG world.. you play (or role-play) so you can be the best there is in Vendetta. (or at least most people have that goal).

The Devs should put in some useless special items that are hard to get, cost a lot, and modify your ship's appearence so it is noticably different from the others.. It gives some bored people a goal: To get that cool item that sets your ship apart from the others. (Idea taken from Runescape).

Ok...hidden sectors and systems? How the *hell* would that be fun? It's would be systematic and monotonous. I've said this a million times, game that are fun are always offering a new experience.

HyperSpaz, the devs have never said that the game is fun. At the moment you're completely right. It's not any fun. It's boring, it has no content, and now it's large and isolating. Either trust the devs that they know what they're doing (from my experience they're really good at determining what things are fun and not, and are generally more picky about it than we often are) or stop playing and come back after the release this summer. Constantly complaining that you're not playing a finished game isn't productive.

"Yes. Please. The new universe is like a giant mansion with absolutely nothing in it but a bed and a refrigerator."
I would have said it was like an engine test for a game with only a couple pieces of the content... oh wait... it IS.

The devs are doing a great job. No that does not mean that the test is going to be fun the entire time, but the system has expanded such that it will be able to support the large number of people a successful MMORPG will see, and still be entertaining, the number of ships and weapons has increased enough such that it will be able to work well with the leveling system.

I don't think it's an engine test anymore. Is it finished? No. But are we seeing more and more of the release product? Yes.

I think complaining about boredom right now is premature, but as release approaches it will become more and more of a real issue, if more content, gameplay and story don't make the game more compelling.

Starfisher, that's what I meant by a engine test with a couple pieces of content.
Jun 28, 2004 Starfisher link
They've been testing this engine for the past two years and will be releasing it in a few monthes, no matter what. I think at this point we're beyond the cop-out of a calling it a simple engine test whenever someone brings up questions of gameplay and content - this is it. Are they going to change the engine at this point? No.

The Vendetta Test became the Vendetta Beta, and now we're testing gameplay and balance. Concerns of boredom and lack of variety are very valid at this point, so long as the complainer acknowledges Guild's stated intentions to add more content.

That's the point of a test. People play your game and tell you what they like and don't like. Mechanics are still being tweaked here, yes, but you can't shrug off complaints of boredom and lack of content any longer with "it's an engine test." It's time to wake up and smell the release a month or two away.

"...and now we're testing gameplay and balance"

It would be preferable if users were testing the boatload of new features that were just added. There are all sorts of bugs ranging from map problems to possibly a few obscure video problems. Those are the things that need to be teased out and corrected just now.

Certainly suggestions for content are useful and appreciated, but please don't get frustrated that the whole game isn't balanced and polished yet. I think that complaints (as opposed to suggestions) are premature.

Gotcha. I just hope that people don't continue to use "engine test" as an excuse with time so short... heh. Everything could use all the time in the world for more testing, I suppose.

Starfisher, people whining about content that hasn't been put in yet not being in, isn't productive. If the devs run out of time and haven't put a lot more content in the engines, batteries, missions, economy, and faction relations (including story) they will either postpone their release date, or not sell very well. The devs are intelligent people they know what a fun game is and isn't.

It's true that it's not just an engine test anymore. The devs have added the following content: weapons, sectors, and ships. So how about we test those as FM suggests instead of complaining that leveling is still boring, or that the faction system isn't working in a reasonable way, etc, etc, etc.

It's true that the devs have a lot of work to do, and the best way we can help them is testing the things that have been implemented, giving specific easy suggestions for improving them, or giving more general suggestions about future implementations.

(Everything said here is just my opinion, I don't know any more specifics about what's coming than anyone else does)
