Scanner to tell quickest direction to go to get 3K away

It would be nice if there was something that told the quickest way to get 3k clear of things to jump. Maybe use the same thing you do for a storm exit. It just gets kind of annoying to go 1.5k free of something then suddenly start dropping down again.

Considering there are only about 100 stations... and a single player only uses about half of them regularly, it would make more sense to learn quick and easy routes in and out of sectors.

Usually, if you can't see anything on your screen in front of you, you shouldn't have a problem. Turn to an empty corner of space where this is true and head in that direction.

This could possibly create interesting moments, when nearest "3k away from everything" spot is 1x1x1m big, somewhere in between roids. The scanner would show you the direction to it, but it's so small that you wouldn't even be able to warp, unless you have computer's reactions and ping <0.1ms :).

how can somethign be 3km away if it is surrounded by roids at a distance of 1m ???

/me looks puzzled

I think what he meant is a situation like this:

Something similar actually happened to me a few times ...

lol, nice diagram, mr_spuck!

If implemented, this would actually be a very useful feature in my opinion. I've been in rayne's situation many times when a lone roid out in the distance begins gnawing at my "Nearest Large Object" indicator just when I think I'm home free.

FYI: Wormholes count as large/massive objects.

I have to agree with Raynes on this one, I especially want to know which way gets me to 3K when something is chasing me or I am trying to get a bonus for completing a trade mission quickly.

I agree. I find zero fun value in having to hunt for 3000m and warp to it. All it is to me is a time sink taking away from the fun of the game. Lose it.

It makes the game too simple, and you also lose tons of possiblitys for player vs player combat.

How about changing it to 3000 m away from the station or arbitrary "center" of the sector? That way, you could just fly straight and not worry.

After only 2 days that 3k distance thing is starting to become un noticable to me now. Its there for the pvp aspect to prevent players chickening out of fights, maybe it would be better for people to give more comments on the 3k thing after playing a few weeks when they arn't flying the low lvl ships still :-)

In regards to an indicator giving a direction, it could be cool, but I can see a few ways it would be problematic to add, since its not really a fixed point in space you are trying to get too. I also think having it as a set point is a bad idea, as you know players would just camp thos places to kill people... :-)

Worrying about the 3000 meter jump distance is really only significant when you have a weak battery. As soon as you get at least a medium battery, the distance is pretty trivial. With Eldrick's turbo bind (General Forum sticky), you just hit your bound button, and sit back while the battery drains. I have a heavy battery and can practically travel across the whole system and still get to 3000m from there.

Just think of it this way: being able to travel to jump distance in any direction is a far cry above what we had before. Before this method, we could only use wormholes to get to other sectors. This means that in any given sector, there were only a couple ways in and out, and pirates knew all the locations.

If the 3K requirement is there for PvP reasons (and I would understand the reasons for this), that means a major focus of this game is going to be PvP. If so, please tell me now, and I can stop wasting my time.

As is the 3K requirement is extrememly frustrating at times and simply serves as a time sink that takes away enjoyment from the game.

Either give us a way to find the necessary spot quicker or shorten the distance.

The method of finding a short way out is rather simple... You spin all around for a couple seconds until you find a section that appears devoid, or less populated by asteroids. You head in that direction. If you're directly in the middle of the patch, any random direction will suffice, but generally, asteroid fields are elongated down one axis, so there will be areas that appear thicker than others. You may occasionally come across a stray asteroid that screws that up, but if you stick to the same systems, you get a good feel of where the quick ways out are.

Ok, question, i keep seeing response to valid requests as interfering with PvP, so am i to assume that this is all this game is going to be is PvP?? and nothing more?

Ryndal: Without the 3k, PvP would be impossible. It would NOT EXIST AT ALL. You can't possibly expect the devs to remove such a huge gameplay element because you don't like it.

I honestly do not understand the complaints - there is not a station in this game that takes more than 45 seconds to get away from. Most take significantly less. Simply pick a spot that looks open and hit the boost. If you have a low level batt, hit the boost a few times.

And yes, PvP will hopefully be a major factor in the game. Trading gets boring fast for the majority of people out there, and once you bot to some decent levels all the fun of the game is in combat.

Starfisher - let me be more clear.

I understand that without the 3K requirement - PvP would be mostly pointless because folks would just run away too easily.

Hence my question - Is the game going to be focused on PvP? If so, I won't play - not my cup of tea at all. You clearly like PvP and I do not - just a simple matter of taste, But if thats what this game will ultimately be all about - I would prefer to stop playing right now and not waste any more time.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "all about PvP." No, PvP will not be the sole focus of the game - the gameplay is pretty much set right now and I think the devs' main focus is mission content and server stability. However, PvP is supposed to be a factor - if you are doing a trade run, don't expect to be able to do it totally unmolested by any hostile force.

Another way of looking at it is the ability for players to sub in the place of the bots for making missions difficult. Better coordinated, smarter enemies.

The actual gameplay itself is unaffected, just the interestingness of the obstacles in your way.

Like Starfisher was saying.. There's a difference between allowing PvP, and making it a central focus. The 3k minimum allows for PvP (albeit largely minimal unless you can somehow set up shop where you know your target will be going), but doesn't make it a core element.

And what people were saying.. 3k is -not far at all-. I got to where I wasn't really noticing not long after I got out of my bus.
