If you make it too tough, you will lose players.

<When it comes to the whole thing of nations at war not liking their counterpart trading with neutral nations...
How did Switzerland survive WW2 with everyone around them at war in some way?
Trade with the moon?>

-Maybe by holding on to the Nazi's gold for them.

<My dictionary says:
Neutral - Not aligned with, supporting, or favoring either side in a war, dispute, or contest.>
-The reason we got into WWI was because both the British and German ships would attack our merchant marine. We couldn't trade with either because neither was tolerant of trading with the other.

Same way the other way around.

I r for Eldrad's idea. Some number tweaking here and there should do the trick.... Really, since when did 2 nations at war like turncoats? :P

several years? fuck no.

months maybe. this is a game, not Earth 2004 in Space.>>>

Keep in mind that LOTS of people stopped playing Star Wars Galaxies after only 3 months because they had maxed out multiple characters in that time. If goals are achieved too quickly, then the game has no hook to keep people interested.

I'm not saying it should take 2 years to make any 2 factions like you, I'm saying it should take maybe 2 years to make EVERY faction really admire you(+900 or better). Since to dock somewhere all you need is a score higher than -600 it wouldnt limit the universe much or make the game any harder. What it would do is create an environment where gaining access to ALL the good equipment would be more difficult. I like the idea of mutually exclusive factions. Being forced to choose which group or groups you want to try to gain equipment from adds more diversity in the long run since then not everyone has a cookie cutter copy of the same character.

I am talking specifically about Itani and Serco, which at the moment, is the ONLY possible application of this thread.

Let the devs do what THEY want. At this point stuff like this is LAST on the list of things to do..

In general, this entire game is waaay too easy to "finish". Im satisfied with my levels (6/5/5/5) and it didn't take long to accoplish it either.

Factions should take longer to achive. In one of the interviews, John said that factions would factor in a big part of the game. I think its just waaay too easy to increase factions. If you want a prom and a valk, you should of been NT.

no if you want a marauder then you should have been a NT.

Even with nations at war there will still be diplomatic corpses and smuglers, spies, counterspies... whatever that lets me get my prom as an itani.

I love the prom, but I hate ht ebackgroundstory fo the serco, I however like the backgroundstory of the itani, since that is how I find myself acting in the game most of the time.

I am not a supreme fan of combat, but I will not back down from a good fight. Money isnt my prime objective and sure as hell neither is religion. I do however think and try to accomplish everyhting in a scientific mather. Not to mention that that atrocious past together with learned out of those mistakes makes one heck of a background for a char.

Not to mention that I love weaker ships but fast like lightning. I love being hard to catch :D

Well, this would also have to take into account smuggling. Say you take XX good into itani space and the itani buy it from you in secret. The serco have no way of telling you did so, and therefore can't deduct.

Gives a function to those patrol bots- stop/catch smugglers.

Your rep wouldn't go down for smuggling if you didn't get caught but it would go down because the Itani liked you more. There will be enough movement between the two nations that they'll know how much a given pilot's liked. If a Serco pilot who's managed to be neutral with Itani walks into an itani bar and sees everyone there singing the praises of a pilot he's going to remember their name. Maybe this should only take effect in the extremes of +/- reputation not the -200 to +200 range.

I think the nation analogy is a bad one... but if you want to use it I don't think Germany gave the Swiss their long range rocket technology, and I know for sure the US didn't share their nuclear bomb, nor their best planes with the Swiss... so by that token no matter what your rating is you wouldn't get a valk/prom.
Aug 21, 2004 Renegade ++RIP++ link
eldrad we dont get the skycommand prom, we do however get the normal prom or the prom +1.

you seen those migs flying around ..., outdated designs get sold to any country pushing up the cash to pay them.

Not to mention that there will always be a blackmarker where you could get hold of one. Expesnive like hell, but once you own stations you could maybe reproduce them yourselve and let other people protect you agaisnt a strikeforce of sercos not wanting to get the oposition the advantag eof thjose superior weapons.

not to mention that china has nuclear weapons and so does india, russia ... Whenever there is a need for money, then designs will be sold, its human nature...
