Ubuntu 14.04 Updater Verification

Nov 15, 2014 Death Fluffy link
I switched to Ubuntu today in order to see if that would eliminate the constant crashing I've been experiencing-and in the process nuked Windows 8 from my system accidentally (which is fine, I hate windows 8 and since I just started using this laptop, do not have anything essential on it).

Anyway, I finally sorted out giving myself permissions to add the plugins folder and went to start the game up. However, I keep getting an error code -99 when it starts to validate files. At first, it wouldn't start the updater at all, so I had to change the permissions on a couple of files to get that going. At this point I have every file in the main folder set to Read / Write. Those files include

first_run - this appears to be an empty file as it has 0 bytes
manual.html
media.rlb
eom.ini
vendetta
vendetta.bin
vendetta.lfv

as well as folders drivers, manual, plugins

Any help would be appreciated!

My first attempt was to dl vo though the ubuntu store. After I posted the op, I unistalled and dl the game from the website and ran the installer through the terminal.

It installed the vendetta executable in the /bin file which still returns the same verification error when run.

However, the folders for drivers and manual were not set up with the proper permissions and the files rejected with

cp: cannot stat ‘/home/tom/.vendetta/manual/css’: Permission denied
cp: cannot stat ‘/home/tom/.vendetta/manual/qstart1.html’: Permission denied
cp: cannot stat ‘/home/tom/.vendetta/manual/mul_bounty.html’: Permission denied
cp: cannot stat ‘/home/tom/.vendetta/manual/mul_group.html’: Permission denied
cp: cannot stat ‘/home/tom/.vendetta/manual/gam_missions.html’: Permission denied
cp: cannot stat ‘/home/tom/.vendetta/manual/gam_flight.html’: Permission denied
cp: cannot sta

a bunch of that. I changed the permissions and reran the installer and the game installed and seems to be running properly now. My guess that the permissions for the two folders was not set properly by the Ubuntu store. Not sure if it is simply my pc or something to do with the installation process on 14.04
