The Hive

Aug 13, 2005 Ghost link
Ghost dipped his white Valkyrie underneath the Leviathan and sprayed green neutron blasts at it as he turboed between the spindly legs. He could still see a glimpse of Niki in the distance, drawing four queens away from the leviathon.

"We're taking heavy fire from the overseers!" Came the shout of Joyce Sanders, the bomber squadron commander.

Comming out the otherside he noticed a Ragnarok, a member of the bomber squadron, turboing away with a queen and several bots on its tail.

"Hold tight, comming to assist." He broadcasted. Ghost turboed behind the queen and lets loose a volley from his three neutron blasters. The queen and its bots began to turn towards him.

"You're clear." He said as he threw his ship into a backroll to avoid the incomming bot fire.

"Death Maker, position?" He asked, hoping to find out where his wingman was.

"Busy." Came the reply. Ghost caugh a glimpse of the assasin dealing with his own swarm from the hive.

"Queens are now in range to engage the bombers! I repeat, Queens are now in range to engage the bombers!" Joyce Sanders shouted urgently.

"We've got to get those queens away from the Leviathan, top priority!" Ghost ordered into his com.

"Affirmative." Came the comforting reply from Niki.

Ghost threw his ship into turbo and bounced to each of the two queens near the levi droping a few neut shots into the back of each one. They began to follow him out, although he began to consider the fact he may have bit off more than he could chew.

"Queens clear, bombers go now!" He said to Sanders.

"Roger that." Sanders replied as the bomber squadron moved in for another attack run.

Alternating his fire between the three queens to keep them at a distance, he began to take heavy damage from the escorts.

"Need assistance!" He shouted into his com.

Only a moment later, he saw Niki dive into the fray splashing green neutron fire on one of the queens. It promptly turned and began to engage Niki. Just as he was about to send his thanks, Moriel Gilman, the third member of his SKV fighter squad turboed in and sprayed a guardian bot with fire causing it to explode sending the nearby bots spinning out of control. Every single one of the escorts turned and pursued Moriel as he turboed away.

"Nice!" Ghost shouted to his wingman. With the two remaining queens left unguarded, they didn't last much longer to his tri-neuts.

"Leviathon at 30 percent, nice job with those bots, fighter groups!" Came the eager report from Bess.

"Queens clear, comming to assist bomber squadron," Ghost announced as he headed back towards the now burning Leviathan. He followed another Valkyrie on a strafing run, he caught a glimpse of the pilot's markings on his ship and recognized an old foe, Dr. Lecter. Serco and Itani were working together to destroy this common threat. Ghost smiled a nervous smile to himself and wondered what Death Maker and Puck would say about this.

Manuvering his burning Valyrie out from underneath the Leviathan, Ghost prepared to go for repairs. His guages showed his hull as critical, he wouldn't last much longer in the heavy fire zone around the "Centipede" as he had come to call the levi. As he attempted to clear the asteroid circle around the battle zone, his heart sank. A heavily damaged and burning queen rose from behind the asteroid 100m away from him, blocking his exit. He immediatly began to take heavy fire. Ghost gritted his teeth and prepared for the innevitable, when the queen exploded without warning. Thankfully, the asteroid in front of him had caught most of the blast from the explosion. After regaining control, Ghost turned his ship around and checked his scanners. The Leviathan was gone.

"Bomber Squadron reports one Leviathan down!" Reported Bess.

"Yee Haw!" Screamed A-Dawg, a well known Serco Prometheus pilot.

"Nice work!" Came Niki's out of breath voice.

Ghost couldn't help but smile.

"Alright, everyone move out for repairs, lets clean up any stragglers." He said as he moved his ship into jumping range. Eyeing Dr. Lecter's ship as he left he thought to himself, "Looks like SKV's war will have to wait for another day."

Just before he engaged the jump engines on his now fuming Valkyrie, Ghost caught a shout over his com.

"THIS SECTOR BELONGS TO HUMANITY!" Yelled a serco pilot, Zoras Ock.

He laughed heartily as he watched the stars blurr into lines again.

Death Maker still saw little reason to risk any Itani loss of life putting down Hive bots in the Serco and UIT side of space. Secretly he had hoped when he first heard of this new "Hive Mind" that the new smarter bots would compromise Serco CtC runs causing the Serco military to redeploy their forces to counter the threat. And weakening them in the north, paving the way for an Itani counter invasion.

However when Ghost informed him the the Itani nation had deemed the termination of a large hive enclave in Sedina Death begrudgingly went along.

Entering Sedina K 13 he was disgusted to find many Serco and UIT where in sector all hoping they would ride the coat tails of SKV to victory and fame.

"Fools, this is not about personal glory." Death whispered to him self, grateful Puck had been recalled temporarily by The Order. Death and Puck differed on points of view concerning the Serco. Death felt some Serco could be used like pawns to obtain a higher goal for the Itani. In this case killing the hive bots and saving an Itani having to risk his life.

Puck on the other hand only saw two kinds of Serco. Dead ones, and those who he would make dead.

Before Death could dock his on ship alarms went off shaking him from his thoughts and informing him some one had a homing lock on his ship and missiles where inbound. With skill that would make the great Akan smile Death spun his ship around numbly dodging the swarms and targeted the lone UIT rouge pilot.

Time slowed as green energy ate massive holes into the hull of Blackhole's rag.

"Warning you have vi..." It was the station hailing Death Maker telling him to leave the sector or be killed. Death cared little and quickly shut off his com to avoid it disturbing his combat trance.

As quickly as he had started it was over, scraps pelted his hull as the Ragorok disintegrated and blew up.

Death knew it was going to be along day as he jumped to an empty sector to avoid the Strike Force.
