PvP and all that

A fair and balanced look at PvP in a 3d game.

Now i am going to begin this by saying that NO ONE in their right mind would ever do pvp. Now before you got all wild on me and say, “just one minute Who? Me?, thats just not true” allow me to explain myself. PvP is useless. It serves no purpose. Some may say that pvp is fun to do and that they have nothing else to do, but that is a lie. Its like those people who say gf after every fight. They are lying. Each and every one of them.

But let me elaborate on my first point.

PvP is useless. There is no reason that any person would attempt to engage in a PvP fight, or any PvP activity. First of all some of these people might say that PvP is the only fun thing to do in this game. Allow me to give you an example:

Me: so, what do you do for fun in this game:

Ghost: I play PvP and Capture the cargo, and Border Patrol.

Me: so those are all thigs related to PvP, is that correct?

Ghost: yes. Those are all pvp related things.

This is not the end of our little conversation, but allow me to point out a few things. Ghost said that those were all pvp things. This is a lie. In BP you dont tell your opponet gf after every kill. You are too into the battle and the war to do that. BP is about a war, not about PVP.

Dont even get me started on Capture the Cargo.

Now back to our conversation.

Me: well i really want to thank you for your time ghost. I am sure you have things to do.

Ghost: thank you Who? Me? For allowing me to talk to you. I really enjoyed it.

THAT IS A LIE.

Dont you see? All these people who are PvPers. They all lie.

There are those who would try to tell you that pvp is the only fun thing to do in this game. Dont be had! I repeat: DONT BE HAD!!!! There are plenty of other things that are much more fun to do in the game.

For example Mining.

Let me tell you about a fight I once had with another player. It was a pvp fight and it was really quite interesting I have to admit. I was in a Centurion MK1, and so was the other person. We both had mining beams. Now let me tell you the secret to combating with mining beams. Keep Flight Assist mode ON. That is the secret. And also keep your ship pointed at your opponent. It will be impossible for your opponent to dodge your mining beam if you do this.

Here is another secret to PvP, if you must do it. Your opponent is chasing an elusive goal. They want a PK. What is a PK? Well, it is a number that goes up, for every PLAYER CHARACTER that a person kills. Now for the secret. If you are about to lose a fight, hit your /explode bind. Now you may say “but who? Me?! I dont have an explode bind” Make one. This tactic is very usefull for avoiding pvp altogether.

CHAPTER 2: I challenge Borb the Second to a duel.

This was a particularly interesting episode in my time in VO. There i was sitting on my navpoint when LO~! Borb shows up!. Well i know what just to do in this type of situation, so i challenged him to a duel.

Yarr!

The duel was on. In I flew into the fray, dodging round after round of neutron fire coming out of that valkish ship. That is one hell of a ship for pvp, then again pvp sucks so it doesn't really matter.

Epilogue.

What can we do about pvp? Well there are a certain number of things that can be done. For one, the wormhole in Sedina B8 must be removed, and relocated to Ukari, that way there is a continuous loop between Ukari and Latos, and people can swoop too and fro laughing all the while.
Second: we must eliminate all asteroids in all station sectors. These allow mining to go on too easily, and besides if you want to prospect, it should be harder.

Third: The superbus and dev battery need to be made available to all people no matter what their levels or faction standings, or any stats that they may or may not have. This will allow all people to have a similar setup and will eliminate all the annoying spammers.

Fourth: we need to eliminate the Prometheus, or increse its stats. As it is now, only a very skilled pilot can win any type of fight with a prometheus. We need to give noobs a ship that they can use, now that the BP mission allows them the ships.

You're right.

GF is a lie... euphemistically... it's a courtesy that tries to ensure good feeling between players.

I will take your roid from you.

my favorite definition:

Sarchasm: the gulf between the author of sarcastic wit, and the reader, that just doesn't get it.

First of all, CtC and BP are PvP activities. You may ask why. The answer is because it involves two players battling eachother, or in short, Player versus Player. I never said PvP was the only fun thing to do, but it is what I like to do in vendetta.

The term "Good Fight" originated from earlier stages of Vendetta when it was actually meant. Now it has turned into somewhat of a common courtesy, but a courtesy none the less.

"Fourth: we need to eliminate the Prometheus, or increse its stats. As it is now, only a very skilled pilot can win any type of fight with a prometheus. We need to give noobs a ship that they can use, now that the BP mission allows them the ships"

I'm all for eliminating it =)

Hummm... interesting... but, for me... "gf" is simply *not* enough... Never has been. (re: "gg" in RvB)

I *usually* use "NICE", or "Great Fight!", or "Damn, I suck... YOU RULE!"... and I always try to remember to *thank* my opponent - heck, he spent his/her valuable VO time with me too...

...my favorites are "w00t!" (that is simply my battle-cry)... and "pirate dispatched"... (especially fullfilling with "0")

Seta *grins* (yet again)

Bojan winks at unknown player node sitting across his table in the unknown station bar.
"Just looked at my logs: upn killed Bojan 133 times, Bojan killed upn 103 times.
Yr paying this bar tab you bastid!"

What we need to do is eliminate PvP altogether (like Genka once mentioned in an OT thread), and put CareBearism into the game at 300% throughput.

Good fight is like saying hi or bye to someone. Does it really mean anything if u have to say it and usually dont mean it?

So should we all start being dorks and crying and whine when we lose? Or gloat and/or taunt when we win?

It's a GAME. Sportsmanship is just the "gentlemanly" (or "ladylike") thing to do.

Without at least a modicum of civility, the game quickly degenerates down into trash talking. You may defeat someone and gloat about it, but there's always someone BETTER than you out there, somewhere.

And...

What the **** are YOU lookin' at, Seta?!?

In almost every fight you learn at least something. How is that not a good fight?

^ Tru Dat Martin.

Witness LeberMac. Was a trader, had never fought another player, except when running or dying. Complete hopeless sack of PvP crap.
Got bored with trading. Fought Martin, Sebastian & UncleDave constantly in B8. Got better. Decided to buy gamepad to avoid wear on keyboard. Got training from Borb, Smittens, Apex Azimuth and others. Got better. Dueled any player who would accept, died some more but then a strange thing happened...

He started to die far less often. His opponents tended to die more than him.

He was becoming a LESS-than-hopeless sack of PvP crap!

(Well, and then he left for 2 months and apparently forgot everything he ever learned.)
