Dear family
I should have been home by now on a scheduled time off the force. Have you read my last ship log? I didn't hear from anyone of you. I miss you all very much.
My route has been diverted and I have been reassigned to duty. There are rumors of an all-out war and am being required to watch out for enemy movements into free space. We fear inroads by the Sercos in the times to come.
As you can see from the message signature, I have been promoted to Lieutenant. I am both happy and sad about it. For one, it's an advancement I aimed at obtaining for a long time. It seems my duties as Council has put me in a position of choice for the rank. However, IDF has lost lots of wings in the past couple of months and, well, the rank of Lieutenant *had* to be given out to someone in the force. I just wish I'll be up to the challenge. Lets hope this promotion was given out in due merit ratter than out of dire need. But I wouldn't bet on this.
One of my first duty now is to reform the Cromwell squadron. Some of my best pilots have either defected, terminated their contract, left in good terms of simply disappear. Such is the case of our good friend Scor-22. I think he's on special assignment. But even as Lieutenant, this information is kept from me. I'm told he'd return soon. It's a damn shame other Itani fleets are hiring non-Itanis into their ranks. I fear this to be a breach of nation security. Those fleets are still allies of the Itani Defense Force. But how can an Itani-protection fleet can defend from Sercos if they have three amongst their ranks? I wonder. They also have UITs abord. Though, this is significantly less risky I think. Although our commander isn't sure about this.
Lesgul my brother, you wanted to join the fleet. I've been given the OK to enroll you in my squadron, even though the parental link is too apparent. I've assured our commander this wouldn't be a problem and that you could be reassigned if this poses too much of an ethical situation. Are you ready for service?
Toine, a border patrol told me you've been crisscrossing the border. Please my son, sustain from doing this. The border is now unsafe. I hear the freighter companies are hiring. Shouldn't you consider this safer career path? I beg you.
You'll all hear from me soon. Perhaps on my next trip to Divinia, will I stop by your sector for a quick visit.
