That's right, it's time to announce the results of The Deneb Run #13, sponsored by EnB and TGFT. This week saw a return to "safe" racing, where despite some combat between participants, none of the racers died. Here's what happened...

The Pilots
----------
Dragon of Fire: Serco, Commander of Earth and Beyond, two time race winner.

Alanon: Itani, council member of Earth and Beyond, 2nd place finisher last week.

Otemir Ortec: Itani, member of Earth and Beyond, new to racing.

MonkofAkan: Itani, member of the Cerberes Defense Council, and last week's race winner.

Gruumsh: Itani, member of Itani Defense Force, veteran racer who previously raced in a Behemoth.

Nerde Verde: UIT, council member of The Vipers, new to racing.

The Race
--------
"EnB will not sweep I guarantee that!" - MonkofAkan in pre-race chatter

As the race started, Gruumsh headed straight for the wormhole to Sedina, while everyone else took one of several detours.

MonkofAkan jumped out to an early lead, entering Sedina first, closely followed by Alanon. Next into Sedina were Otemir Ortec closely followed by Nerde Verde. Dragon of Fire seems to have gotten off to a bad start and entered Sedina last. (Gruumsh did not report his position at this point, so his order of entry is unknown.)

Soon, MonkofAkan exclaimed "eek serco bots!" as he and the other racers entered Sedina B-8 and encountered a small swarm of Serco CTC bots aimlessly circling the wormhole.

MonkofAkan lead the pack into Latos closely followed by Gruumsh and Alanon, who were neck and neck for 2nd and 3rd. Otemir Ortec was next, while Dragon of Fire passed Nerde Verde to take 5th place.

MonkofAkan extended his lead going into Ukari, while Gruumsh maintained his slim hold on 2nd place. Otemir Ortec caught up to Alanon as they entered Ukari simultaneously. Dragon of Fire was next, about 15 seconds behind Alanon.

By now, it was becomming apparent that Nerde Verde was having real trouble, as he was falling further and further behind. This may have been due to to ship trouble, a lack of experience with racing, or perhaps he simply purchased his navigation computer from the same shady company as Martin.

Heading in to Initros, MonkofAkan continued to dominate, extending his lead to nearly 40 seconds ahead of Otemir Ortec who had now edged past Alanon. Dragon of Fire was continuing to close the gap as he was now only 3 seconds behind Alanon. (Gruumsh's position was not reported at this stage.) Expressing their strong enthusiasm for the racers, the Serco promptly dispatched a horde of Race Escorts. Meanwhile, Nerde Verde was just getting used to the star patterns in Ukari.

MonkofAkan left Initros first, heading into Rhamus, followed by Alanon who was starting to close the gap. Shortly thereafter, Gruumsh took the high road through Pyronis, with Dragon of Fire close on his tail, and Nerde Verde entered Initros. (Otemir Ortec did not report his position at this stage.)

MonkofAkan entered Dantia from Rhamus with only a 4 second lead over Otemir Ortec, who flew through Pyronis. Alanon warped in from Rhamus at the same moment that Dragon of Fire warped in from Pyronis. As the racers converged on the wormhole to Sol II, Monk ofAkan held a narrowing lead over Otemir Ortec, with Alanon the next to report in. Meanwhile, Nerde Verde opted for the Rhamus route. (Gruumsh and Dragon of Fire did not report their positions at this stage.)

Not content to let the Serco Race Escorts have all the fun, MonkofAkan decided to attack Gruumsh with a triple volley of Sunflare rockets as the racers were entering Sol II. This proved both futile and costly, as the detonation failed to damage his fellow Itani Gruumsh, did double-damage Monk's hull, and gave a 15 second lead to Otemir Ortec. There was initially some dispute about the small amount of damage on Gruumsh's ship, but it was later agreed that the damage had been inflicted by the Serco Race Escorts.

As the racers entered Sol II, Otemir Ortec was in 1st place, followed by MonkofAkan, Gruumsh, and Alanon. Dragon of Fire was 5th, but about a jump behind 1st place. Meanwhile, Nerde Verde was now in Dantia.

Otemir Ortec held the lead going into Betheshee while both Gruumsh and Alanon passed MonkofAkan to take 2nd and 3rd place, respectively. MonkofAkan entered next, followed by Dragon of Fire.

Nerde Verde had the wormhole from Sol II to Bethshee in his sights as Otemir Ortec crossed into Geira Rutilus at the head of the pack. Position reports became somewhat spotty at this point as the racers jockeyed hard for the lead. It appears that Otemir Ortec and Gruumsh were neck and neck for 1st and 2nd place going through Geira Rutilus, while Alanon was in 3rd place, MonkofAkan was in 4th, and Dragon of Fire was in 5th but closing the gap on MonkofAkan.

Nerde Verde, holding a firm grasp on 6th place, was almost in Geira Rutilus as Otemir Ortec and Gruumsh warped into Deneb. Alanon was 3rd, while Dragon of Fire passed MonkofAkan to take 4th. Soon after, Gruumsh reported hitting an Ion storm, giving a clear lead once again to Otemir Ortec.

Otemir Ortec was first into Eo, with about a 20 second lead on the now 2nd place Alanon. Another 20 seconds back, Gruumsh was in 3rd place, with a 30 second lead on Dragon of Fire. MonkofAkan was about 50 seconds behind Dragon of Fire and appeared to be losing ground as he entered Eo only seconds ahead of when Nerde Verde entered Deneb.

This order continued as the racers passed through Cantus and into Metana. Gruumsh appears to have hit more storms in Metana, dropping to 5th place, while MonkofAkan was making good progress in closing the gap with Dragon of Fire.

The order going into Setalli Shinas was Otemir Ortec with a 20 second lead on Alanon. Dragon of Fire was about 35 seconds behind Alanon, with MonkofAkan about 8 seconds behind, and Gruumsh right on his tail. Meanwhile, Nerde Verde maintained his position about 2 systems behind the rest of the pack.

Dragon of Fire came under attack in Setalli Shinas by MonkofAkan's triple Sunflare Valk, and again MonkofAkan double-damaged himself in the process. After the attack, both pilots were able to continue racing and Dragon of Fire was able to keep MonkofAkan from passing.

The order stayed the same as the racers entered Itan, and then Pherona, with Alanon still very much on the heals of Otemir Ortec, Dragon of Fire about 30 seconds back, MonkofAkan another 30 seconds back, and Nerde Verde a couple of systems back. (Gruumsh did not report position at this stage, but was most likely in 5th place.)

Once in Pherona, though, the race order changed dramatically. After having lead the pack since Sol II, rookie racer Otemir Ortec encountered one or more ion storms that dropped him all the way back to 4th place.

From here, the order would not change for the rest of the race, with Alanon in 1st place, Dragon of Fire in 2nd place, MonkofAkan in 3rd place, Otemir Ortec in 4th place, Gruumsh in 5th place, and Nerde Verde in 6th place. Sensing the futility of continuing, Nerde Verde dropped out of the race after entering Jallik, by which time Alanon was already in Bractus.

Alanon won the race to claim the 2 million credit prize. Dragon of Fire came in second and received the 1.2 million credit prize. MonkofAkan came in third and received the 800k prize.

The Stats
---------
Alanon | 31:16 | Valk Veng, fc batt, no weaps
Dragon of Fire | 32:12 | IDF Valk, fc batt, no weaps
MonkofAkan | 33:33 | Valk Veng, fc batt, 3x sunflare
Otemir Ortec | 33:35 | Valk Veng, fc batt, no weaps
Gruumsh | 34:14 | IDF Valk, fc batt, 3x sunflare
Nerde Verde | DNF | IDF Valk, fc batt, 2x Neut MkII

Interesting observations:

1) 100% of the racers were flying Valkyries - 3 IDF, 3 Vengeance.
2) 67% of the racers were Itani.
3) 50% of the racers were from Earth and Beyond.
4) EnB was only 2 seconds away from a complete sweep.
5) This makes 4 consecutive races where EnB has had a pilot place somewhere in the top 3.

Announcement
------------
To help encourage more Guild vs Guild competition in the race, EnB will be offering bonus prize money to pilots from other guilds who compete in next week's race. Details will be posted in the thread for the next race.

TWO seconds from a sweep!!!

And yeah, to confirm what Screwball said I had a REALLY bad start to this race, I also hit an ion storm in initros.

And as always Screwball, excellent write-up :)

Aye. The reason I lost the lead in Dantia was cuz I jumped into an unmarked field to avoid stroms. Took a while for me to get out.
