TGFT and EnB will again be hosting The Deneb Run this weekend at 2 AM GMT Sunday. Please check /time if you are confused about GMT.

I will be continuing the No Valks rule this week. Also, just to be different, this week's race will be COUNTER-CLOCKWISE around the universe.

All citizens are welcome to race, there is no entrance fee, and 4 Million credits in prizes are available. Some of it could be yours, but only if you race!

Once again, the rules are:

1) Racers must race from Odia M14 through Deneb heading counter-clockwise back to Odia M14.
2) Race starts in Odia M14 near the station.
3) Contestants must be within 100m of me before the start
4) No shooting before I start the race.
5) You die and you're out (so no /exploding)
6) All weapons and ships allowed, except Valks.
7) First person to get back and dock at Odia M14 wins the first prize. (2 million credits)
8) Second person back gets 2nd place prize (1.2 million credits)
9) Third person back gets 3rd place prize (800k credits)
10) No Valkyries allowed.

Obviously, a Fast Charge battery and decent ship is recommended.

Please reply to this thread if you intend to race.

In related news, some of you may have noticed that I've fallen behind in posting the lengthy race writeups for the last few races. For those of you who enjoy that part, I have good news. I've recruited other members of TGFT to help write those sections, and I hope to post them soon.

I may or may not be able to participate. I'll know within a few hours.

/me waves to all the mercenaries and then moons them.

oh, if Jan participates in the race anytime soon, 500k to take him out.
Nov 12, 2005 DragonEmpire link
Heh, I always seem to be everyones primary target :P

And I was robbed of 2nd place!! I got railed <100m from docking... Was completly not expecting that, especially when Mecha Touriaus was on the other side of the station.

I wonder how he managed to pull that off. That station is somewhat porous, perhaps he managed to shoot through the holes in it. That'd be one hell of a shot.

Announcing the results of The Deneb Run #20, sponsored by EnB and TGFT.

In a departure from the normal route, this week's race went counterclockwise around the galaxy.

The Pilots
----------
MonkofAkan: Itani, member of the Coalition of Itan, a seasoned veteran and repeat winner of The Deneb Run, he won last week.

Dragon of Fire: Serco, commander of EnB, also a seasoned veteran and repeat winner of The Deneb Run, he placed 3rd last week.

fooz2916: UIT, council member of the Cerberes Defense Council, and veteran racer, he previously raced in The Deneb Run #17.

Martin: UIT, former host of The Deneb Run, very experienced pilot and occasional racer, he tends to suffer from navigation computer problems.

Decompyler: UIT, new to racing in The Deneb Run.

Speed Racer: UIT, new to racing in The Deneb Run.

Jefferson Clay: UIT, new to racing in The Deneb Run.

Root Baba: UIT, member of the Cargo Liberation Movement, new to racing in The Deneb Run.

The Race
--------
[please check here later]

The Stats
---------
MonkofAkan | 28:48 | Hornet MkII, fc batt, no weaps
fooz2916 | 32:50 | Orion Hornet, fc batt, 1 gemini
Martin | DNF | SkyCommand Prom, uc batt, GT + sunflare
Decompyler | DNF | Orion Hornet, fc batt, 3x posi + sunflare
Speed Racer | DNF | Warthog MkII, fc batt, neut mkII, plasma dev
Dragon of Fire | DNF | Orion Hornet, fc batt, no weaps
Jefferson Clay | DNF | Corvus Vulturis, heavy batt, 2x gemini
Root Baba | DNF | EC-107, fc batt, no weaps

Interesting observations:

1) Only 2 of the 8 racers finished. This is the lowest number of pilots to finish in the history of The Deneb Run.

2) MonkofAkan has won 3 consecutive Deneb Runs. That's a new record.

3) 6 of the 8 pilots were UIT, but only 1 finished.

4) At least 6 other pilots were trying to kill the racers, with pretty effective results.

5) Times in this race should not be compared to other Deneb Run races, because this one went counterclockwise.

racing is for people that want a difference from the constant fights. You can grow bored of fighting as well...
Nov 13, 2005 Dark Knight link
Yeah, and it's great for those of us who want to earn cash without tedious trade runs or difficult combat.

Anyway, escaping the first wave of gankers was easy, and since most of the second wave (the one that was hitting players along the home stretch) was hired by me (not that I got anywhere near them)... I had a pretty easy run, until I had to log.

Decompyler and I were jockeying back and forth for a large chunk of the race, but I got a 2 system lead on him after he started going clockwise around Deneb, though he caught up around Sol II. We were constantly 3 or 4 systems ahead of Martin, who somehow fell waaaaaay behind.

The Doc pegged Jefferson Clay (I think) within 30 seconds of the start of the race, and then (of course) he came for me. Amazingly, my Hog Mk II was able to evade his Valk Vengeance for 4 or 5 systems, until I (amazingly) lost him for good.

He then proceeded to follow one of the OCG Hornet pilots for the remainder of the time I was logged in. Every once in a while Channel 100 would get treated to him complaining about the Hornet's amazing thrust. I probably would have taken Decompyler down myself, somewhere around Eo, if I hadn't been jerking my joystick around (that sounded wrong) from laughing so much.

All in all, it was a great race. I hope it's like this again next week!

Race finishing is at an all-time low! You could take a week to finish the race, and you could still place! But why do that when you can hire a CDC escort! Not only would you virtually guarentee a finish (and hence a placing these days) you can also elminate me from the racers right off the bat (I cost extra though). Still a bit reluctant? You can also buy insurance!
Nov 13, 2005 moldyman link
Lecter chased me from Jalilk to Sol 2 and then He fell way behind

btw, Hornets 4evah!
