CORRUPTION SPREADS THROUGH THE ITANI NATION
Will the Itani Nation finally fall to the Serco onslaught, or will the Coalition of Itan tear the Nation apart from within? A disturbing trend has emerged in recent months that may signal the end of the Itani people.
The firing of an Itani diplomat
The recent firing and subsequent resignation of Smittens (of ITAN) was, according to insider sources, a long time coming:
"The way he approached diplomacy, his name might as well be 'Mittens'", said once source.
Other sources report that Smittens was instrumental in forging alliances throughout known space, and within the Itani Nation:
"It was his idea to merge IA with that, uh, other guild, and form ITAN," says an anonymous ITAN source. (His companion replied "Don't be stupid! Smittens wasn't even born way back then!" The comment, however, could not be confirmed)
ITAN quickly announced Smittens was being replaced by genotype, but no explanation was given.
The change comes on the heels of other, more widely reported and certainly more explosive revelations about ITAN's recent conduct.
Allegations of bribery and corruption at the highest levels of the Itani government
As previously reported ( http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/7/16111 ), an embedded CNN reporter Sally Koshuni was lost in combat by ITAN Lt. Lebermac and subsequently recovered by CNN at great expense. Lebermac was drunk at the time Ms. Koshuni was lost, and it was widely expected that the Itani High Council would act swiftly to punish Lebermac for his indiscretions. Instead, Lebermac walked without so much as an admission of guilt. CNN has learned it is, unfortunately, substantially worse...
CNN has obtained evidence that Lebermac was released following a significant "contribution" to the "well-being of the Itani High Council" in the name of the Coalition of Itan. In short, the council was bribed. (In the interest of full disclosure, while the IHC did dismiss our civil proceeding regarding the recovery cost of Koshuni, ITAN made a partial, back channel payment to Corvus News Authorities) Further, it appears this is not the first time the Coalition of Itan has paid the Council to cover their members. ITAN members have recently been accused of piracy on the UIT border, bribery of UIT officials, and treason. All of these reports have been quashed by the Itani High Council, much to the chagrin of many citizens.
Unstable leadership
Reports of piracy by the Coalition of Itan are particularly troubling, as ITAN has been accused of supporting piracy in the past. Some evidence has even suggested that Lt. Lebermac is a pirate himself, having been previously linked to and accused of being the now presumed dead and certainly missing-in-action CLM pirate tumblemonster. Lebermac himself, while certainly not the soul source of Itani corruption, remains a major beneficiary. Inside sources report that while Lebermac was publicly cleared of all allegation in the Koshuni incident, he was punished internally with forced sobriety, and is apparently going slowly mad:
"He's acting out, yelling at people and drooling," claims one Itan member.
Possibly related, Sally Koshuni has received several threatening messages from an anonymous sender calling himself "Camelreb". The messages are being investigated.
Where does the power lie?
In an uncertain war time, where does the power lie? Most analysts agree the power belongs to the military:
"The military is calling the shots," says Professor Schlacht Karánsebes of Eo University. "The military power in our political system is unprecedented. Personally, I think they're doing a great job!"
Others disagree. Independent analyst and long time ITAN supporter David Irving claims "The Itani people are firmly in control of the government, as they always have been."
Another man has this to say: "It's Blak! [The now disbanded Black Lance Guild -ed.] Has to be. They're like 50-armed puppeteers, pulling their strings all over the galaxy, steering every one of us toward their own devious end game!"
Whatever the structure of power in Itani space, the Itani people are at risk. The recent surge in Serco combatants on the border coupled with snafus and cover-ups by the Itani government and the Itani people's protectors leave the Nation vulnerable as never before.
The Itani Nation has had the benefit of partial seclusion, being less exposed to dangerous space than Serco or UIT denizens, but geography cannot protect them forever. Known space is opening like never before. Strange events in Bractus ( http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/7/16130 ), increases in piracy and anti-pirate action (including increased piracy within Itani borders), the Serco and the expansion of the Hive all threaten the safety of the Itani people, all while their protections are failing.

The Itani nation's protectors are not failing. While I have no grounds to make a statement one way or the other on the matters of ITAN, I can say that SKV remains. Skygge Vakter continues and will always continue to defend the border of our nation despite the lack of support from the friendly pacifists in the Order of Eo. We may not always be on in force, but we are always watching. We are working to make sure the Itani people are not vulnerable, though I don't believe anyone can be considered safe in a time of war.

Sod Itani and Serco, they got there issues sure, CNN should concentrate more on the corrupt trader types, like Bronab who willingly supplied phase cores to the Serco nation, and yet the same bastid was supplying ores to his Itani brothers? And Woodstock, the most corrupt trader of all time...
...This guy not only supplied Xith to both the Serco and Itani nations (albiet not it its pure state), but he also supplied a *grey space* station so well it got bloated with goods.
Traders are evil and fuel this war.
