An Uneasy Response

Sep 09, 2007 Yuutuu1 link
MiexonBionic glared angrily at the stack of papers accumulating on his desk. Ruffled Papers covered the entire surface area of his desk with various locations on them. Odia, Bractus, Sedina, Ukari, and all other nooks and crannies of the galaxy lay scattered around Miexon who continued to grow angrier by the second.

“How the hell am I supposed to fix all of this!?!?!”

But in the middle of his yelling fit a glance revealed that most of these papers had something in common. All these accident reports had similar situations involved; similar people in specific. It seemed that a number of Phoenix Alliance members had been attacked in the past few months; surprisingly not by enemies but from friends.

MiexonBionic quickly cleared a space on the desk and began to write a letter to the source of the problem.

“Dear Itan,

Although we have enjoyed our agreements and friendship over the past year it has come to our attention that you have grown increasingly hostile to us over the past few months. Not only have you broken many of our agreements that we have formed cooperatively you also have failed to apologize or show any remorse for these actions. After dealing through multiple offenses we can no longer continue with our present agreements and relations. We believe actions that have been committed against us render any agreements we have with you null in void.

Although we have enjoyed our friendship and cooperation over the past year we cannot base everything just off the past but in the present also. We are also looking towards the future, in that we mean that we rather have agreements with other groups of individuals who respect the agreements we have instead of trample all over them. We are not doing this to spark any conflicts but instead we are doing this to protect our own members because foolishly we believed that when we saw an Itan tag we thought that meant we saw a friend and not someone who would attack us, stab us in the back, or insult our guild or agreements in any other shape or form. As of this moment on all agreements between our guilds have been unfortunately rendered null and void.

We don’t know why you have been acting the way you have. When you come to your senses we will be open to further discussion. Until then, good luck, god speed, and good bye.

MiexonBionic
Commander of the Phoenix Alliance
On behalf of the rest of the Phoenix Alliance”

Miexon sat back mesmerized by the words he had just written. His former allies, his friends, now reduced to just mere acquaintances but unfortunately it had to be done. Miexon began stamping “ISSUE RESOLVED” on the dozens of papers that lay before him. As he filed them away into the overflowing cabinet labeled “Itan” he began to think about what this would cause. He knew he meant nothing hostile by it but whether or not Itan would increase or decrease hostilities he had no clue. With a click of the lamp the room darkened as Miexon stepped out. Uneasiness filled the hall as the door to Miexon’s office closed shut.

what agreements did we break recently?
trakus is no longer a member and he was the only problem i knew of.

I dunno maybe the fact that our members have been attacked at least twice non-consensually in the past week alone...

Hopefully [PA] understands that if I don't have an [ITAN] tag on, I'm not their pal and that no guild is responsible for my doings.

who has been attacking you thats in ITAN?
if you had told a council/lt/co who was on at the time it could have been dealt with quickly.
you can be sure that if one of our members attacks an ally and knows he shouldnt he will be punished if there is evidence of it happening.

No instances of [PA] pilots being fired upon by [ITAN] pilots * have been brought to my attention.
If such a thing were to happen, the pilot who is offended, should complain to the offending pilot, and if no satisfaction is given, should take it up with the [ITAN] officers. If it were proven, the offender would be sanctioned. If this were to happen repeatedly (or if the victims were too timid to take it up with the ITAN officers themselves) then it would, naturally, be escalated to the [PA] leadership to talk to the [ITAN] leadership.
Has this happened? - no.

As an aside, I have /msg MiexonBionic about 10 times in the last 10 days and had absolutely no response, nada.

So, at least for me, this is coming out of left field.

Let's talk about it.

He's just making up an RP excuse to get out of the NAP, nothing to get excited about. His prerogative. He probably realized that having NAPs with both ITAN and CLM leaves hardly anyone to shoot at. My guess is that he wants to take the guild pirate.

Since when does not being aligned with ITAN mean you're a pirate?

To Foo: After discussing with Smittens it is quite obvious that there is a serious communication error with Itan. I know in PA we have multiple threads on our forum that explained our relationship with Itan and on top of it in our MOTD we mentioned our relations with Itan and not to shoot because we felt that was our number one importance. We did this so if any PA member attacked Itan they would have no excuse for not knowing Itan was no fire.

The reason why I haven't answered your responses Foo is because I am afk when you send them. I leave my character online for extended periods of time and overnight for guild reasons. I'm not deliberately ignoring you, im honestly asleep or at work or something along those lines.

Smittens and Wiggens both attacked PA members non-consensually in the past week or so. I dunno about you but NON AGRESSION PACT means DO NOT SHOOT to me. This brings me to my point for csgno1, this isn't an excuse to get out of the NAP but just a message that Itan broke the NAP and rendered all our agreements between them null in void. This isn't the first time stuff like this has happen because we have given Itan plenty of chances because for the most part we have many friends in Itan.

This to me is quite humorous because it is the same response the other way around in January. Let me refresh everyone's memory. http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/7/15781

Ok for all of you new people this is the situation. PA recruits Mecha Tourias after mecha says he wont attack ITAN under PA and after knowing him and fighting with and against him he joins. Immediately after without warning to ANY PA member we are "put on notice". Itan states our allowance of Mecha into the guild allows them to attack him and any other serco in PA hostile or not hostile; a bit unfair to those who haven't had a run in with Itan at all imo. So basically without coming to us at all ITAN bypasses our agreements with them and allows our members to be shot down, a bit out of left field to me too.

My posting here is to make a point. I believe PA has plenty of valid arguements for this nullification. If you haven't heard of any of these events im sorry that their is no communication within Itan.

First I've heard about a problem with mecha, an officer should comment on this.

That further reinforces the impression that ITANs have poor guild communication...

If I read the thread correctly, that issue back in January was that a day after joining PA Mecha was still firing upon Itan members (lord spidey, specifically). Commander upper case, on his way out of command and the game (he let his subscription lapse) wanted to resolve it the quickest way he knew possible and so started that thread. No, it wasn't the most elegant or diplomatic way to do things, but he is no longer in-game or guild and I'd like to believe our current leadership has different ideas of how to handle such situations.

Getting back to our current issue, I believe the prevailing feeling in Itan is that we wish to stay on good terms with PA. Aside from the apparent lack of communication of some guild members (which will be addressed), I'd like to know what can be done to resolve this issue amicably. Our guild site was down over the weekend, but is up again - if you wish we could discuss this matter in our Diplomatic forum (or in PA's, if it would be your preference). Hopefully we can come to some sort of agreement to reinstate the NAP, and remain on good terms.

Is PA really worth this sort of trouble?

[Edit] Yaaaaaaawn. [/Edit]

I myself have no problems whatsoever with any pilots in PA, and in fact think the majority of them are rather nice people who I'd like to remain friendly with. I also don't think doing a little work to keep an NAP is very much 'trouble' as you state, Lecter. Though I do believe that even without the NAP many of the pilots in both the guilds would remain on friendly terms, an NAP just serves to keep the "isolated elements" (in both PA and Itan, again) in check.

PA, ITAN, and CLM are all so similar, in action and attitude, that they should just merge.

Blah blah blah, Roda. Tired old song.
