Following what can only be described as a "self serving, indignant and altogether way too full of himself" (-strat) rant by Mecha Touriaus on public comm channels last night, the Viperpaedia was beset by vandals.
The Viperpaedia, for those who don't know, is (or rather, was) an database resource for traders and free pilots, and contained massive stockpiles of information on pirates and pirate activity.
Last night, Mecha Touriaus, known pirate and vigilante, became aware of his being listed on the Viperpaedia as a known pirate, and complained of this fact for several hours, claiming his belonging to a trade guild as proof that he was not a pirate (despite him having over 6000 confirmed kills, in fact the most confirmed kills of any single pilot in the history of space travel).
Upon hearing the irruption of spew that is Mecha Touriaus, a lone fanboy/mecha lover pilot* (name withheld due to age discrepancy) took it upon himself to hack into and vandalize the Viperpaedia and remove Mecha from the list.
Of course the Viper data wranglers were aware of this treachery, and acted swiftly to restore the integrity of the Viperpeadia and reverted all the changes made by the fanboy pilot and later, by Mecha himself!
Unfortunately, the small but skilled Viper data management facility was overwhelmed, and the entire system crashed. The Viperpaedia has now reverted to it's original configuration, it's wealth of data possibly lost forever.
Yet another act of treachery by a notorious and unscrupulous (not to mention the most murderous EVER) pirate named Mecha Touriaus.

You know out of context the 6000 kills thing sounds kind of bad.
But it is not for killing tradeships but rather pirates and various other enemies I have fought over the years. It is the pirates that need to worry about me :P And I did notice the vprpedia fall down and go boom, but that might have something to do with someone spamming my name all over it.

If anyone was wondering, this is not merely RP. The [VPR]pedia is gone and no backup exists. I'm not sure of the exact details (I was not admin), but basically we were trying to revert it to a previous state to get rid of some changes and there was some sort of error and the entire database was deleted. It is truly a disaster and we are heartbroken.
We put up a new one and will slowly begin rewriting its content. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is the new link.

The amount of content on the original was immense, 3 years of work. I'm not sure if it will ever be rebuilt to the level it was at before it was lost, but I'm hoping that with a little help we can get close. As always, feel free to register and contribute. I'd like to apologize to all of the players who use the [VPR]pedia. We are depending on the VO community to help us restore this resource.

LeberMac, thanks. We will are working from search engine caches to rebuild it.
I will do what I can to help guys, this really does suck, and once it gets built back up....back it up! :)
Okay. We are back up and running! We're all backed up this time too. MSN Live cache really saved us. We were able to save 90% of the content from there. My local Safari cache also helped out quite a bit. Of course we couldn't get the actual page code from those caches, so a lot of pages need to be formatted to look pretty. We should have that done within a week or so.
