I think you should play however you want to play and just turn off 100.

-Conquerable sectors in Deneb.
-Safe zones for newbies (100% safe)
-Multiplayer ships (Not capital ships, just ships like moths where one player can pilot the ship, and another can serve as a gunner in one of the ships turrets)
-Friendly fire has been removed from greyspace.
-Suddenly....TURRETS!! Thousands of them!
-Some sectors with fog
-New ship (Warthog variant "Greyhound")
-Some changes to the economy and prices.
-A shitload of background configuring computing thingies that only the devs and a few other players understand/give a crap about.

Let's be frank: VO has a pretty clearly defined class of "PvP experts." Neither you nor I fall within that group, despite being experienced and capable combat pilots. Just be glad you don't suck as badly as Bojan, Leber, or PeyPey and leave it at that.

So who are those PvP experts?

Niki, Shape, and Icarus are the three clearest all-around stand outs, though Icarus appeared less capable of adapting to the altered flares. Alamar was uniquely good with rails, but was not an all around expert. There are/were others who know/knew how to hold their own -- Ghost, Martin, tram, Tumble, Bojan (was just ribbing him before), Nerde, Mecha, myself (back when I actually flew regularly), Roda, SpaceHunter (when he wasn't running away), guy called StormofSilence, SunTzu (also when he wasn't running away), BoxCarRacer was strong with regular energy light fighters, spidey, borb, Maalik, etc -- but those three stand out as the most skilled PvP pilots VO has seen IMO.

I'd agree. Those folks need to log on more often so I can get better!
And Dr. Lecter needs to log in sos I can kick his rusty ass. HAR HAR HAR.

Eldrad, Gavan, Spellcast, Sebastian, Apex Azimuth, Hawkeye...

I've never been able to decide if I like how inevitably and perniciously rust grows on the inactive. Is it good or bad game design that allows this?

hmm not busses, and i didn't only use rails, but all sorts of weapons that people say suck. And I've killed all the vets in even match ups. Except for eldrad only because he didn't play when i did.

I'll agree with Eldrad and Seb, bojan. Gav, Spellcast and Apex belong more in category 2. I don't recall Hawkeye.
