12»
Nov 01, 2009 maq link
Today's race was held to commemorate VO's 5th Birthday (November 1st 2004 is the time of the official release).
It was intended to be a Deneb Run, but i have decided to switch to CSR route due to defense turrets in Itani and Serco space.

== Participants ==
Racers:
Los Rimatsi - Warthog Mk2, FC, Neut3, Prox Mines
Denji Royhu - Greyhound, FC
Nahin Lor - Greyhound, FC, Ion Mk3
Gerty - Greyhound, FC
Wild Thing - Greyhound, FC
Kimdino - Vulture
Themisto - Hornet, FC
Restayvien - Greyhound, FC

== Results and prizes ==
Nahin Lor - 1st - 30 Million
Wild Thing - 2nd - 20 Million

mr_spuck - claimed 3rd place prize of 10 Million by killing Kimdino

Did not finish:
Los Rimatsi - killed by FusionBurn
Denji Royhu - killed by mr_spuck
Gerty - killed by FusionBurn
Restayvien - killed by FusionBurn
Themisto - killed by FusionBurn
Kimdino - killed by mr_spuck while holding 3rd place

Observations:
Quite a few people showed up despite almost complete lack of announcments.
Race was quite bloody with 6 of 8 racers falling to pirates, and one of pirates claiming 3rd place prize.
I decided to give out 1 million participation prize to anyone (also pirates) who did not get a prize otherwise. If you participated and did not get any money please contact me.
Prize money was donated by Miharu.
Thank you all for coming.

I asked Mick to withhold any prizes Nahin might receive in light of Nahin's remorseless cheating in the event just prior to the Corporate Sectors Run. I take cheating seriously and as Mick apparently does not, I cannot trust him to behave, and he, for the foreseeable future, is banned from my events.

Uh .. I didn't blow up Los Rimatsi. FB did.

Maalik, i don't approve of cheating and i do take it seriously.
But i did not have a clear picture of what actually happened and i didn't have the time to think about this as i was already starting to organize the damn event.
I don't think just banning everyone at first mention of something they did without a thought is the thing to do.
And trying to be a judge there would delay the race by significant amount of time.

As for witholding the prize, since i did not ban Nahin in the first place i didn't feel it was appropriate or even fair to other participants to change my mind after the fact.

Now, if such stuff is brought to me some time before i start running the event and have time to consider what it's all about, i will likely prohibit any known cheaters from participating.

Right now i don't actually know what the hell happened during NW (someone repaired Nahin?) so unless someone explains it to me i'm not banning anyone. (not that it matters too much, since i'm not sure i will be hosting anything anytime soon)

My NW post is very clear and the EMS pilot confirmed it and Nahin didn't deny it so I don't buy that you are still confused.

When a 30 million credit VO Birthday Prize is at stake, you could have, as I suggested, waited to distribute any prize Nahin might receive until after you sorted out the facts. But you didn't. You gave a juicy reward to the cheater and denied any wrong doing on his part.

Seems like you don't disapprove of cheating to me.

I'm confused as to why his cheating in NW, which he obviously did, has any effect on his winning the CSR.

I have by then not read your post. It was also first time i was on vo for months and besides i was very busy answering multiple pms, describing rules to half the races who didn't even hear about the race till then, etc.
And as i said i don't think banning someone the moment someone else says 'cheater', without giving it a second thought, is good thing to do.
Also, since i did not ban him in the first place i decided that denying the price later would be wrong too. This may or may not have been a mistake.
Now seeing how it is rather clear Nahin did cheat i will consider banning him from future events.

If you don't buy that, well, whatever, since it's a done deal so i don't really know what you want to achieve by being vindicative here.

@Lecter, by itself it doesn't, but then if someone is known to cheat, then allowing him in other events can well be a disservice to participants of those events (since there's good chance that he will, you know, cheat).

The timing wasn't good but you were in a unique position to deliver a healthy thwack and I would have appreciated some solidarity and trust between event organizers.

It looked to me at first like you were defending him, but as this is no longer the case, I have no further reason to object to your presence in any future event I run.

This, I hope, is all.

Damn wish I could have been there for this, used to love competing in the DR.

it'd be nice if they ran the deneb run again, too bad they killed it with the turrets.

Maalik, I pray you do not include Mick in our arguement. I also fail to see why a NW has anything to do with this race. Mick had nothing to do with what happened.

Btw, I removed the Ion MKIII before the race started.

Edit: If possible, I would prefer this arguement stay on the NW thread.

with what happened

I love the passive voice phrasing. The [EMS] dude who came over, repaired my ship, and saved me from a well-deserved end in the middle of NW? Yeah, that was not something I did, it just happened!

It seems pretty logical to me that someone who blatantly, willingly cheats in one player-run event should be banned from other player-run events, in the interest of upholding the integrity of the events.
Nov 03, 2009 Dr. Lecter link
I just think it's harder to cheat in the races, since repairs are allowed. That said, I hope the offending player will be banned from future NWs -- it'll save me the trouble of excising him.

Willingly? You are mistaken, I seem to remember him announcing himself giving repairs in the sector. I simply did what I thought was smart. I did not realize the consequences of my actions, and I appologized. It will not happen again, I asure all of you.
Nov 04, 2009 Dr. Lecter link
I simply did what I thought was smart.

That sentence, at least, is honest and believable. The one that follows it, however, is laughable. And nobody cares about the assurances in the one after that.

You're all babies!

In a real war medics exist, the best way to deal with this would to blow them up before you enemy can use them

When armageddon happens and you all argue for hours because lecter shot X who he thought was a zombie i'll toss in the grenade, steal any valuables that survived your explosions and steal whatever food you had hoarded and live happily every after in the end of the world.

CS, your facebook picture leads me to believe that -- if Armageddon occurs -- you will be killed and eaten for your well-marbled meat by us fitter survivors.

I'd make a good roast.

But I still run very fast so rule #1 isnt a problem.

/me has a well-scoped .300 rem ultra mag that says rule #1 remains a problem, regardless of running :D
