Hi peeples. Many of you know me in game already, but I've been wanting to write up a character description for a while (RP is important to me). For those who care, this character concept was inspired by the fierce independence epitomized by Malcolm Reynalds and the crew of Serenity. To put a finer point on it, I'm a Brown-Coat, Innypennant type, but I have a few self imposed laws I follow, so I guess this first post is kind of a mission statement.
1) NATIONAL PRIDE.
I have none. This is not to say I oppose UIT, or dislike them, I just do not care about the colour of my name any more than I care about the colour of your name, which is not a jot. If I could be grey coloured I would (though, if given the choice, I'd have a brown name... See above).
2) GUILD PRIDE.
I have none. As above, except I can freely remain independent of guilds. I do not care what your guild tag is anymore than I care what colour your name is (which I've established is not a jot). That said, I do find the interplay of guild politics interesting, and amusing, and will still comment from time to time. This does not infer preference of one guild or another, and I'll happily fly alongside pilots of one guild today, and their rivals the next. Take this as you will.
3) INDIVIDUAL PRIDE.
This is where it matters for me. If I like you, I'll fly with you, and help you out where I can. If I don't like you, I will tell you so, or simply ignore you. This is all based on you as an individual, and, as stated above, your colour or guild does not factor into my opinion of you.
4) MY CODE OF HONOUR.
I follow a simple code of conduct, and will not break this code for any reason. The code of conduct is as follows:
a) Deal with Honour. This means if I make a deal with you, I will honour it to the best of my ability. If I enter into a trade deal, I deal in good faith. Getting scammed does not allow me to scam the scammer in return ( but will get the scammer on my "scumbag list", and I would not deal with them again).
b) Fight with Honour. This means that where possible, I fight 1 on 1, and will not interrupt others in combat. If I have been contracted to fight another player, I will inform the player before initiating combat. Unless I am under contract, I will always issue an official duel challenge, and will not engage if that challenge is declined. I will not loot dropped cargo from a dispatched opponent. Note: In a furball (such as Nation Wars, CtC, etc the 1 on 1 rule does not apply).
Obviously, this only applies where I initiate combat. I will defend myself as I see fit, and should I dispatch my attacker, will help myself to whatever goodies may result.
c) Never Pay a Pirate. Should a pirate attempt to " pirate" me, I will either run, or fight. I will never pay.

Dear Diary,
Wow, big day. Started out doing a little farming, and sold 200 units of SSS to a return customer to pay for the nights planned PvP. Then, all cashed up, I headed over to Sedina to see what was happening. Unfortunately, it seemed everyone was out committing certain deeds, so I disarmed a Centurion MkIII and headed for the tube tracks.
After a few trial runs experimenting with 3rd person view and flight assist (both of which turned out to be a hindrance) I managed to score new PB's on both the D-5 and E-5 tracks, though still a long way from the top 5. Once I'd exhausted the entertainment value of flying a spaceship through a twisted tube, I headed back to D-14, changed out the Centurion for my a CorVult, and headed to B-8 with an open challenge in #100.
Before long, Mr. Chaos answered my challenge, arriving in an Axia EC-101. I managed to best him by a small margin, but was amazed at the way he got that ship to move! Then, he and Espionage took turns advancing my education in all things PvP with several decompression rides back to D-14. I decided better weaponry might help, so spent some time traveling around, gathering weapons. Suitably re-equipped, I returned to B-8 to try my hand facing my impromptu sensei's again, but the fun was interrupted when a station they controlled was attacked!
Turns out, a massive strike force consisting mainly of CrazySpence (well, OK, it was just CrazySpence on his own) was attempting to wrest control of the station from my erstwhile sensei's. As they had taken the time to so graciously explode me several times, I went along to offer what assistance I could. It would seem CrazySpence took offense to this, and declared me a war target for all Itani nationalists (at least 'till I help them defend a station too, or such-like).
Once the attack was repelled (or CrazySpence ran out of ideas for new variations of "suicide by turret"), I wandered back to Sedina to resume the PvP training. Unfortunately, both Mr. Chaos and Espionage had some national business to attend to, but luckily, Il Monstre (a pilot closer to my own skill) and accepted my challenge. After a long, tiring duel, he defeated me by a narrow margin. I reconfigured my new weaponry, and after another lengthy duel, returned the favour, also by only the smallest of margins.
As I was considering calling it a night, my conscience insisted we resolve the tie, and so I undocked and headed to B-8 for the deciding duel. This time, the duel was much shorter, and I scored a decisive, if hard fought victory to end the night on.
So, in short, I made some cash, got blown up several times, got some new toys, helped defend a station, got declared a war target, and ended the night on a win :)

Hope you don't try making a capship. "Never pay" isn't a very good policy when doing something that requires thousands of hauls through greyspace.
Wait, did I say "don't"? I meant "do". :P
On the topic of RP, how is Faille Corvelle pronounced? "Fail"? "Fail-lee"? "Fai-lay"? "Fai-yay"?

It's taken from Robert Jordans "Wheel of Time", and I've no idea how it's meant to be pronounced, but I say it as just "fail"

Nice. Firefly is a nice bit of Space Western sci-fi, and VO certainly carries echoes of that. Robert Jordan's series is immortal of course.
I would like to add that no matter who you help, unless you help me direct I do not care.
But so far, shiny.

Ok, good, that's what I've been assuming it was. A pet peeve of mine is guessing wrongly at the pronunciation of words and names, and not finding out until the wrong version has lodged firmly in my mind.
Haven't read Wheel of Time yet. It's on my list though. For the record, it says here that "Faile" is pronounced "fa-YEEL" and is Old Tongue for "falcon".
"Faille", on the other hand, is apparently a real word, pronounced either "file" or "fail", and is a "slightly ribbed, woven fabric of silk, cotton, or rayon."
The random stuff I end up learning when I'm supposed to be working :\

Nice read so far. It's good to see more people starting to do the RP's on this board again. Is that picture of your creation?
Never paying pirates works fine for making a capship, just pay other people to do the leg work
Also, I probably won't remember to shoot you later as I have retreated to Nation space for the time being

... Now that you mention it, Pizza, I remember seeing the "proper" pronunciation written somewhere (prolly in the glossary at the back of one of the books) but by then " Fail" was firmly in my head.

Dear Diary,
Fairly quiet day today. After a short stint framing SSS, I headed over to Sedina B-8 to continue my PvP training today, and tried out several new techniques with mixed success. I also had a talk with Espionage about the practicalities of mercenary work, and decided I should register as a bounty hunter, despite the fact that most bounty-heads prolly far outclass me in skill at the moment. Still, I had a scout around in UIT and grey-space anyway, and even headed into Serco-space to look for likely places such nefarious types might frequent, seeing as I was nearby. Tomorrow, I will scout the Itani end of the universe to get the lay of the land there, although at this stage I don't like my odds of spotting anyone I could take. Still, it's relatively early in my PvP career, and so I continue, undaunted.

Dear Diary,
Had an interesting day today. It seems the climate control incorporated into all my ships life-support systems was on the fritz, and I spent a good deal of time in dry-dock de-frosting and attempting to rectify the problem. Eventually, I found the glitch, and, able to move my fingers again, headed out into the black.
After my customary farming period, I decided to look into getting certified to fly the old EC-88 model bus, and was dismayed to find it involved protecting a research vessel while it investigated rogue bot activity, something I've performed poorly at in the past. I'm not sure how this factors into my ability to fly an old, classic model ship, but, hey, I don't make the rules. Fortunately, Espionage offered to assist me with the defense of the vessel, and with both of us flying CAP the ship was in no danger.
The next step in proving my ability to fly the old-school multipurpose craft seemed to be to grab a CorVult and go kill an Overseer. Again, I didn't see the relevance here, but complied anyway. Taking the advice of Mr. Chaos, I traveled to Sol II to take this job, as it was made apparent to me that the Overseer residing in grey-space would most likely be in an Ion storm, which I hate flying in. Once I'd dispatched the Overseer (and after a long and teary farewell to the Observer-bot that had accompanied me on the hunt) I made my way back home to grey-space, with the intent to dock at Sedina and try out the old bus in some "bus-wars", but as usual, things didn't go according to plan...
As I jumped into the Sedina system, I spotted a bot transport, escorted by only two collector bots. "What the hell are they doing here?" I thought to myself, and in the interest of keeping the trade lanes clear of potentially hostile bots, I boomed them. To my surprise, the transport dropped a white cargo container, one that I'd never seen before. My curiosity piqued, I collected the white container, only to be informed that it contained "Purified Xithricite" used in the CtC conflict between the Serco Dominion, and the Itani Nation, and that while carrying it, I would be unable to dock at any stations other than those specified. Unwilling to involve myself in the disputes of nations, I decided the fairest course of action was to offer it to the first Serco pilot I came across on my way back to Bractus (as it was apparently a Serco convoy I'd destroyed).
Sure enough, as I passed through the Odia system, I encountered Espionage, who immediately asked me if I'd seen anyone boom the Serco CtC convoy. I told him I had unwittingly destroyed it myself, and, as a proud Serco warrior, he was honour-bound to retaliate (read: boom me), and declare me KoS until such time as I eliminated an Itani convoy to make amends. I agreed reparations would need to be made, and pledged to do so.
In the meantime, however, it was time to give the old '88 a test-drive, seeing as Espionage had so conveniently given me a fast ride back to Sedina D-14. The ensuing bus-wars drifted into the D-14 NFZ, with much hilarity, and I eventually had to take a break, as I was laughing too hard to fly properly (note: I will have to check the life-support system's Oxygen supply for Nitrous Oxide contamination at the first opportunity).
As the other pilots found more pressing matters to attend to than exploding an out-dated bus, and the bus-wars wound down, I decided it was time to head back to Bractus. In the interest of maintaining my Serco/Itani neutrality, I docked in Bractus to await the next Itani convoy. As it left, I followed it to Pelatus, and boomed that transport too.
With the scales of neutrality suitably balanced, I set about repairing my reputation with the Itani nation, (who had apparently heard about, and not appreciated me ridding Sol II of an Overseer), by moving some much needed cargo around the Jallik system.
As I returned home to hang up my flight-suit for the night, I remembered I'd forgotten all about scouting out Itani space for bounty-heads! Oh well, there's always tomorrow...

ryan: If I joined BLF I could no longer consider myself independant, and while I can understand BLF's goal to rid Bractus of Corvus's influence, to my mind, there is little difference between Corvus, and any other faction, Nations and Guilds included. All have their own agenda's, and all attempt to impose their will on others, for good or for ill.
This is simply not for me. To be truly free, one must be answerable only to oneself.

Dear Diary,
Today I spent some time integrating some new-fanged Itani tech into my control systems, with a mind to improve the level of maneuverability I can employ in combat with other pilots. There were a few teething problems (the manual said I should "synchronize my alpha brainwaves with the interface matrix... no clue what this meant, so I wound up using more duct tape than I prolly needed) but eventually, I got it working. I spent a while getting the feel for it with my usual bit of farming. While I was out 'sploding Arklans, TheRedSpy dropped by and paid me for a Milinar Agg he'd sold on my behalf, and while he was there, he bought most of my stock of SSS. All cashed up, I docked in Bractus, and was relaxing in the bar when a musically inclined pirate, by the name of Capt'N'Blood dropped in and entertained me with a rousing rendition of "Fifteen men on a dead man's chest".
Then, it was off to Divinia for a few duels with Jaka Charelis. I flew my '88 there for the duel, and in the first fight, defeated Jaka, who was flying a Vulture MkIV equipped with pop-corn. Jaka returned for the second duel with better weaponry (blasters of some sort) and proceeded to void the warranty on the old '88. As Jaka's skill had improved, I left the '88 in dock, and fitted a single Neutron Blaster MkII to a Centurion MkIII, and showed him that more guns is not always a sure path to victory. At this point, Jaka was called away by the Itani military to deal with some errant bots, so I tootled off to Sedina for some further advanced combat lessons, as usual, tutored by Espionage, and this time we were joined by Capt'N'Blood. I found myself wishing I'd brought a holo-vid camera with me to record one of their duels (or at least some pop-corn to munch while I watched the duel), as the fight was most entertaining!
I was called away by pressing matters for an hour or so, and when I returned, Espionage (a true Serco nationalist) hired me to infiltrate Itani space and dispatch any potential military threat I came across. However, 'though I flew from one end of Itani territory to the other and back, visiting every station as I went, I found the entire Itani nation eerily deserted (apart from one Itani pilot in a Hornet who ran from my fearsome presence, and a fledgling pilot who vanished into the bowels of the station, presumably to become a librarian or something).
Seeing as there were clearly none present who would (or could?) challenge my authority, I declared myself queen, with all the territories of the (former?) Itani nation under my control. I then set about redecorating the Itan K-11 capitol station with a more pleasing, gold theme, and renamed the system "Bashere" after my namesake. This seemed a good note on which to call it a night, and with that, I retired to the Royal bedchamber, to dream queenly dreams.

Dear Diary,
I had a sort of random day today, involving travel, dueling, travel, regicide, travel, more travel, and teaching. Then a bit more travel.
I started out in Itan, but as no pledges of allegiance, nor tribute was forthcoming during the night, I decided this was pretty dull, and headed back home to grey. On arriving in Sedina, I set home at Corvus and headed to the dueling ground.
There was plenty of action there today, and for the first time, I had the honour of facing Woodlander (of "The Woodlander Chronicles" which inspired this diary). Our first duel was epic, and became something of an endurance match, with both of us under 20% hull for what felt like most of the duel. I found my groove during the next two bouts, and they were both shorter affairs, though no less enjoyable.
My duels with Jaka Charelis went the other way, with Jaka also finding a groove that worked for him, decisively winning our last round for the night. As usual, Capt'N'Blood showed us all how it was done, defeating me each time we faced each other, though today I inflicted more damage on him than in past duels.
With the dueling winding down, I pondered what to do next. After some discussion, taking Jaka queen-hunting seemed like a good idea, and we agreed to meet in Dau. Jaka arrived some time ahead of me, as I swapped out the CorVult for a TungMarauder, my preferred botting boat, and by the time I arrived in Dau, Jaka was nowhere to be seen, having dropped off comms some 2 minutes earlier. Unperturbed, I carried on (I'm pretty hard to perturb, after all), and disposed of the queen myself.
Finding myself bored again, I wandered back to Bractus, set home, and continued on into blue-space to see what was happening there. Whilst there, I encountered a rookie pilot who's comm-link was on the fritz. As I still had the duct tape I'd been using to install my new control system, I offered what assistance I could, and we soon had the signal flowing again. I sent a copy of "The Hitchhikers Guide to VO" (www.vo-wiki.com) via the now working comm-link for good measure, made my way back to Bractus, and called it a night.
