I thought this was a one-time bug, but I ran into it again 3 times today, so its becomming more frequent. Could someone please tell me how to post pictures so I can show some?

You'll need some webspace where you can upload the image to. Then either just put in the address, and people can click on it to browse to it. Or you can insert images into your message post using [_img]http://address.to/image[_/img], without the _. If it's a large image, I'd say it's better not to use the img tag to include it directly in your post.

If you don't have anywhere else to put it, you could upload it to the bugs section of the vo-wiki's images site: http://www.vo-wiki.com/images/

Oh, and some questions that'll probably be asked: What OS do you use? Are you using texture compression? What video card & driver version do you use?

Or you can check out the Viper Guild (www.viperguild.com) gallery, which allows guests to upload pictures.

Nevermind, I figured it out.

Thanks for letting me use the site.

EDIT: I forgot, I use Windows XP, no texture compression, Radeon 9200, and Open GL.

Wha!!! Thats not a bug!!
Either your computer has been at the 'Shrooms again or its light refraction caused by ice forming on the outside of your cockpit. Which might indicate a leak. Get your ship booked in for a service NOW!!

Finally...interesting roids!

Are you sure these weren't photoshopped? There are a couple of ice and hollow roids that don't suffer from the effect.

What system and sector were you in?

it's showing the bumpmap in RGB space for the texture map instead of the XYZ you have RGB

In answer to RelayeR's questions, the pictues were taken in Initros M-8 and Betheshee M-14. I also encountered the bug in I think Geira Rutilus N-8, I don't remember the last location where I encountered this bug.

I ran into this bug again just now, this time in Azek D-11, here's a pic.

One thing I have noticed, is that only Silicate asteroids are ever rainbow coloured.

EDIT: Also asteroids containning Xithricite are not rainbow, this explains the occasional "normal" roid.

Neat. Those are bumpmap surface normal coordinates, seen in red/green/blue instead of x/y/z, as Ray tried to explain (I think?).

I haven't the slightest idea why your videocard is misinterpreting them. Some shader is misbehaving very, very oddly. Oh, but I just read your videocard & OS description.

This is probably because you're using OpenGL in Windows instead of DirectX. We don't recommend that (read: we don't test it nor keep the code up to date).

Ray explained it to me and I was trying to pass along the info. However I don't have a bright, red name so they didn't pay attention. :P

ok, thanks for the explanation.

Can we have this turned into a feature!
Jul 13, 2005 sarahanne link
like you fly over a special power up crate and all the asteroids get pretty colors?
Jul 13, 2005 iTripped42 link
that would be sweet!

Yes sarahanne! I love it!
