I was cruising along working on leveling up a char 3/3/4/3 and some idiot in a much higer level ship blasted me in my home system next to a UIT station I had absolutly no chance to win. allowing this behavior will not encourage new players and it ether goes or I do and you wont get another dime from me
I'm going to get you a polite response before the inevitable trolls chime in.
That's Vendetta. The nature of the game is that there's nowhere truly "safe". You must always keep an eye out for potential threats. The actions you described do come with consequences though and the pilot in question likely lost a big chunk of faction with UIT for blasting you. He would have (or will have to now) had to run through turrets and strike forces to get to that location. Other than the consequences though, there intentionally is no 100% effective protection in Vendetta. If you can embrace that, you'll fall in love with it.
On a side not, blasting someone once is not griefing. That's playing the game.

I love when, in addition to the PK(s), you can get this kind of whining from a target. It just warms the heart.
Also, 3/3/4/3 is not a noob. By those levels, you should have enough experience and equipment to detect a threat and at least escape it, if not defeat it. You have nobody to blame for your untimely demise but yourself.
But like I said before, please do continue to bitch and moan about it: your outrage amuses me.

Lecter getting his cheap PK's in again I see.....
As ghost said - there is nowhere safe in VO. And once is not considered griefing.
The TCS plugin has a feature called alert machine that will help you spot when real players enter your area. There is a Make Friends Plug in can adjust your radar display to show selected players as hostile.
Also the separate Targetless plugin can show you a list of what is nearby and make target selection a lot quicker.
All these wonderfull things are yours at the VO-wiki or under the Community Projects Forum

So level up and blast him back...
Or join a guild so that you have some protection.
As others have pointed out the name of the game is Vendetta, and nowhere is completely safe. I'm also impressed that the responses so far have been both thoughtful and mature compared to 99% of the internet. Vendetta Online has a good community, if you learn patience and adapt with it you will begin to see the cards are in your hands.

I agree with the Doc. And Ghost.
Ah, he was Lecter's prey. I was popping newbs in Dau last night, but I didn't remember any that had those levels. Most of the ones I found were in the 1-2 range.
One or two newbs even paid my (very cheap) newbie rate.
One guy had some unfortunate luck. Turned out he was doing a mission that had just warned him he was being pursued. He had his mission screen up and was reading that as I warped into the sector and hailed him. Apparently the mission told him to head for the NFZ where he'd be safe. That didn't work out for him.
There was another guy in one of the stations complaining mildly that he hadn't even found any trouble yet in his eight hours of trial. During the time he was in there chatting, I was killing and being killed (by SF and turrets, not newbies, though some did try) right outside the station. I guess I should have said something.
Oh, and Hiltonhouse: You should become a bounty hunter (message the Marshal NPC in one of the capital stations). Then if you manage to kill somebody like me or Lecter, you may find yourself getting a nice reward. I believe I currently have a one million credit bounty on my head (it was late, so I don't remember if I still had it by the time I logged or if it got claimed). I'm almost certainly a better fighter than you of course, but you have a large advantage inside Dau capital stations - the turrets, guards, and strike force are all trying to gank me while I fight you. I also can't dock anywhere in Dau so I can't get repairs. And to get into Dau, I have to survive the turrets on both sides of the wormhole, which tends to eat off a good chunk of my armor before I even find anybody to shoot.

Wow...neither griefed nor trolled.

Well, i had the same problems when i started the game, but now i am about 7/7/7/*/* and I can pilot/afford a GreyHound (fastest ship in game).
If you are annoyed by people killing you for the 10th time, get a greyhound - they will never catch you.
GH is also great for escaping the border turrets.

I'm still not sure how the OP managed to misspell "hilarious" so badly in the title. I mean, "bad" doesn't even have the same number of letters!
Indeed, HOME capitals should be very safe, even for newbies. Just think RP or RL, in both cases makes sense that every decent nation enforces a safety perimeter alongside their major installations.
Seems stupid to me that a rat can enter a nation's capital and shoot at anything or anyone. That should be impossible, really. Like, add some uber-missile turrets to capital's WH, and keep a smarter SF floating around.
All non-capital stations should remain as is, while capital systems and stations should be more protected. As now, Dau is only slightly better protected than grayspace.

That's the price you pay for being a neutral nation right next to Gray.

<sarcasm> Agreed, it should be like in RL where where no one with hostile intent can enter any capitol of any nation with the intent to do harm to people. </end sarcasm>

Just add beam turrets to the capitols if you want to make it completely unaccessible.
The current turrets already do too good of a job at killing everything that exists in the game.

Anybody who can't take being killed a few times doesn't belong here and needs to leave. This is a video game. You die in video games. Death is cheep. Especially when you're flying around in a free bus.
BUT, when I was coming out of a itina station someone sat there outside the dock bay and killed me 4 times in a row.. there is nothing you can do because you are blind, low speed and not looking. that is I think NOT funny and something a small child would do. just my .02 worth
in order for that to happen.. and the player to get away with it, you have to have relatively low (below admired) itani standing and the player in question must immediately leave the sector after killing you to avoid the station defenses (as the dock is in the no fire zone). Its not alot of time, but it is time to get out of there. While it can be rough on new players, the next time you see the person who was killing you, you're more likely to take more effective precautions. Use it as a learning experience, get better at fighting, then find the bastard and make him cry. It's called Vendetta for a reason.
Pro tip: if you run from a pirate and dock in a station, don't home at that station unless you have a good reason, or the above happens :)
Of course, often the pirate only shows up after you homed. In that case, if you can't figure out how to escape, just pay the pirate. He probably already asked you for a fee. If he didn't, ask him what it would cost you to get him to go away. I for one have very reasonable newbie rates.
Also, I have to say I think it's pretty funny that people will actually ragequit rather than pay a modest fee. It's not like the money is worth anything - even inside the game it's nearly worthless. The only reason they aren't willing to pay is that I'm another human. If I were an NPC they wouldn't care much. But since I'm a human, they feel so ashamed about the idea of paying me a handful of dirt that they actually log out over it. I happen to think that the fact that people's brains are that screwed up is hilarious.
I for one paid pirates any time it was convenient, back before I was one. Of course, most of the time I didn't because I was looking for a fight in the first place. But if I got caught trading, out came the wallet. See, I'm admitting to it. No shame in paying, just a business transaction. And it's not like I broadcast over 100 who has paid me.

I paid a pirate few times.... and then i got smarter and learned to avoid them.
Just get a Warhog II, Greyhound or Valkyrie, and you can run from any pirate. It's easy.
Unless, of course - you are in a heavy transport ship and pirate spots you - then ransom is the only option.
However there are certain kinds of pirates who really annoy me. The ones who don't take any ransom, don't talk, don't negotiate, just blast you out of the sky and go away. That is griefing gone bad.

No, that is just borderline griefing. Anything less than that is not griefing. And it also isn't griefing if you have done anything at all to motivate them to do it, such as being an Itani/Serco when they are Serco/Itani, or achieving KOS with their faction, or badmouthing them or their guild/faction, or being annoying, or consistently refusing to pay, or stealing their loot, etc. Lots of reason to kill people without warning in a game named Vendetta.
Killing people with a reason, even a weak one, is not griefing. Just because the killee doesn't know the reason doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
