Valkyrie Rune lost infiniturbo (now drains 55). Was that really necessary?

Prom MkII still has infiniturbo.

for some reason, i have trouble logging in, keeps sayin the server time out :(
Jun 17, 2005 Beolach link
Yeah, there's a new server bug, it's allocating lotsa lotsa memory. a1k0n should have it fixed soon.

[edit] Should be fixed now. [/edit]

None of the Centurions have infiniturbo anymore either. The only light ships w/ infiniturbo now are the EC-* & Vulture MkI. While most heavy ships (Wraith, Centaur, Ragnarok, Prom MkII) do still infiniturbo.

/me thinks Rune & Cent MkII need infiniturbo. That was there main distinguishing feature, if you're not going to let them infiniturbo, you may as well remove them from the game entirely.

The CentII used to be known as the infibooster...

well i'm happy about most of the other balances.. but I didn't think the boosts needed balancing. now i'll have to fly a warthog as a personal transport. since it's the only ship that breaks 210m/s with infiboost.

Racetracks times are gonna be harder to beat now that the RevC's and IBG's have had a thrust reduction!

I'm just going to say this ahead of time in defense of the Warthog tweaks.

I know some people are going to complain about its top speed. You'd think the Valk or Cent should be given the ability to boost at those speeds, right? But I'm going to have to disagree on that. The UIT had nothing special now for us non-traders until now. As I said before UIT isn't reserved just for traders, and that is made quite evident in the official online and printed publications containing descriptions of each nation. So with just the Marauder at hand, the rest of us were lacking a truly special ship.

The Warthog Territorial Defender is the solution to that. Seeing as how the UIT lack the benefits from CtC participation, one would get the impression that the UIT is truly neutral. So whether they receive any special abilities, in terms of military hardware, is kind of irrelevant or moot in terms of throwing off the balance of the game between the two main, warring nations. If anything the UIT is in dire need of defensive capabilities, seeing as how they're constantly being jumped and bullied by pirates from both Serco and Itani nations within Grey Space.

That's where the Warthog truly shines in its role. It's fast, yes, but it doesn't accelerate as quickly as the Valk or Centurion. It can't chase anyone down as easy as you think it would either, since it still has an engine that drains pretty quickly and most L-port energy weapons wouldn't allow for sustained fire during boost for very long, especially the Gatling Turret and Plasma Devastator. So it still remains, for the most part, a defensive ship. Which is a good thing. The only difference now is that it can get in somewhere, do its business, and get the hell out ASAP. This is especially helpful for providing support and escorting traders through deadly regions.

I'll get around to testing the other ships further once I've raised my levels more. I'm looking forward to it. I really like some of these changes. I do think that there have been more improvements in this update than previously. It's not perfect, obviously, but there's definitely more balance and variety between the ships. So kudos to the devs for taking the time and effort in releasing this surprising update, even if it was delayed for a day—which really didn't matter IMO.

Oh man, couldn't play today, can't play tomorrow... I wanna experience the tweaks!!!

Still, I see most "Hard-core" warriors are pissed, which leads men to believe the tweaks were fair all-around.
Jun 18, 2005 Beolach link
Actually, most of the balance tweaks that apply most to combat I like fairly well, it's only the removal of infiniturbo for the CentII & Rune that really bothers me. And while infiniturbo does have a number of uses indirectly related to combat, it does not make a ship a better dogfighter.
Jun 18, 2005 TRS link
Please put one of the centurians (I or II) back to infiturbo, or create a scout class ship. The VultI is a tad slow for scout class and the hornet is too heavy. I really think all "cargo" versions should have infi turbo (centurian, hog, etc...). The centII really did make for the perfect scout and fast personal transport, and the centI was good plus widely available anywhere, even if nether one was very feared in a dog fight.

The itani's don't have any good ctc ships. The valtII only had 8 cargo and now it only has 6 (,and now it has no infiturbo either). The promII has 40 cargo and is a favorite for ctc.

sorry .. that has to come now

Did you really have to hurt the mauds that much? Seems like they got as much as a 3k hull cut. What was wrong with them? The stats of the TD look better than that of most mauds. ugh :/

What's their role now? They get slow ass when they are loaded so they are crap for hauling cargo, can't carry a good amount of mining beams.
Their slight advantage in combat is gone too now since they don'T have enough armor to compensate for the lack of maneuvrebility (sp?.. gah). Their turning behavior is still great, but that doesn't mean much. :/

And why did those changes not even get a mention in the changelog!?! I mean 3k on a ship class is quite major.
Jun 18, 2005 yodaofborg link
Yeah, most the tweaks are great, and only add to the balance, but to see the mauds armour cut is a bit strange, and yeah, if your going to remove infiniboost for us combat types, at least make all the trade ships boost a bit slower, 190 max.

Besides that, I like it, valk did need a buffing, despte what some may think, I havent got access to the sky command, but the prom mk3 doesnt really seem in any way *broken*, I REALLY like the fact that if you want to do BP missions you have to chose a side, even if your Itani/Serco.

- i am bored to see pleople playing UIT (when they knewn UIT are less stronger than serco/Itani and knewn as neutral/traders).
and still asking everything.
when i check the active players list.
UIT are always >50% of players online.

- i am bored to see Itani players whining eveytime there is a "small" change on ships as long as they do not have the best ships ever.
lack of skill? very little small change affecting so much.

- i am bored to wait...

- i wanted to reroll an itani character (to use their ships - best ever) but i am too bored to level a new char.

so i /log on

and do the new BP mission to raise my xp and moneys (until i meet an itani players to kill there).
that is the best way for me to have fun + making moneys + xp...
Coz i am a fighter and i hate doing mining and transport.
happy BP mission give decent moneys.
killing NPC traders itani to get 1000 serco standing and getting bounty on my head...

/log off

what ship i use?
i am serco with -1000 itani and -1000 UIT

my favorite Orion Rev C (worked hard the standing to have it that's why i like it)

2) SVG or vulturius

I do not like to fly in heavy ship like Prom and others.
coz it's my style.

I love it. This thread is a perfect example:
You can please some of the people all of the time, or please all of the people some of the tme, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.

Is it less slow to load sectors now?

VO Wiki now reflects the changes to the ships. Darn you evil balance updates giving me more work to do!

I agree, mr_spuck. I don't quite understand the reasoning behind the changes of the Marauder. I didn't see much of a problem with it before. I mean nobody complained about them, right? I admit, I'm not a big fan of 'em and I never flew 'em around much, but I did notice that they weren't exactly used as uber fighters during combat either. Unless I'm missing something, I don't see the harm in bumping its armor back up. It's always been known as the tough cargo hauler that can zip past danger!

Suicidal Lemming, I don't think all the stats were updated. I still see that the Warthog TD has a turbo speed of 220m/s. It should be 250m/s I believe. Just a heads up. But thanks for getting right on that. I like some of the slight changes to the website too. The two-column layout of the main page makes for easier navigation IMO. Good stuff.

Infiniturbo = BAD!
Jun 18, 2005 Pausert link
I haven't been on yet, but I'm glad to hear that the td got a bit of a boost. I'm confused about the mauds though. If anything, they needed a boost to their turbo thrust. They were obsoleted when the heavy ship upgrades made the centaur a more manueverable cargo ship, and now with even less armor, what is the point of them? They can't fight better than anything in any situation, they are useless for trading and mining, especially since without an l-port they can't pack mines or good mining beams. The only remotely useful one is the tung maud, because of its l-port and hold, and why use it when there is the tung centaur with just 10cu less and a ton more armor and maneuverability and weaponry available to it?

Like I said - I haven't been on yet to try things out, but why worsen a ship that was so reduced anyway (if only by other ships getting boosted past it)? A1kon?

I'm gonna have to echo roguelazer here... NO ship oughta have infiniturbo faster than 180 m/s.

************************************************************

I did.
just look at this stat before.
ship 48-60 cargo storage units and 3 small flying like a light/medium ship.

it's not supposed a ship for fighter
It s decent for fight and very good as transport.

so the infiniboost and his armor decreased is correct... (?)

************************************************************

remembering the CtC
lot of UIT players used Maud to fight and stoole cargos.
they could compete light ship and pich a lot of cargos.

isn't it stupid?
