Formal Complaint towards Arolte

Aug 12, 2005 CCB link
The following thread will be useful as a reference:

http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/7/10844

Today The Crow and one of my character Henry Jekyll are engaged in active roleplaying. We kept "in character" all tonight, and do not engaged in any "out game" behavious and were parked in Sedina B8 watching over SKV activity.

We read his post above, so we understand that he is an anti-pirate vigilante. However, as we were parked in B8, he attacked The Crow unprovoked. When we asked him why in 100 (our first post to 100 all night, we have left the channel), forcing us out of our "in character" mode, he did not respond. Instead, he proceed to approach me with intend to attack.

Now, I am trying very hard to instill a good sense of roleplaying in this game. I have roleplayed Henry all night (as Mecha Touriaus, the SKV pilots I have faced and others will attest), kept in character throughout. I was enjoying myself, until this said encounter.

I feel that I am trying to contribute something to this game, by forming a strictly Roleplaying group. But people like Arolte just annoy me greatly, and destroy any mood for me to continue roleplaying tonight.

If this is the kind of behaviour that the game will tolerate, I believe I am in the wrong game.

Moderators, please do not lock this thread.

Listen... I wasn't there and I didn't see what happened, and I'm sure you are both frustrated, but let me remind you:

You may not, however, post any material that:

* Attacks or insults others on the board. Feel free to debate the idea, but do not turn your disagreement into an attack upon the poster.
* Engages in name-calling, harassment, or threats. See above

Frankly, I'm sick of seeing this type of thread pop up in general discussion. A general rule of thumb we've always had is to not name names on the forums.

If this were a real formal complaint it would take the form of a private email to the devs... as far as I can tell this thread is nothing more than an immature cry for attention to garner opposition toward a specific player as a means of venting frustration and it deserves to be hermetically sealed, incinerated, and buried deep inside Yucca mountain.

Phaserlight says : this thread is nothing more than an immature cry for attention

Phaserlight : If you have nothing to add, except to commit the very act you just disparaged (i.e. make a personal attack on the boards towards a poster), then please leave this thread.

Also, you concede you were not in Sedina B8. I suggest you ask the players who have gamely roleplayed with me why before you post.

Uhm, a personal attack would be "You suck donkey hair for breakfast!" (which is what you're saying to arolte)
"These sorts of threads suck donkey hair for breakfast" is not a personal attack, it's an attack against a sort of attitude and type of thread that sucks donkey hair for breakfast.

One truth about VO is that one is not likely to remain undisturbed in Sedina B8. I have tried, so I am not suprised that it did not work for you. Good luck in the future.

I've replied in the RP thread you highlighted for an explanation. You can read it there. And for future reference, keep formal complaints private with guides or developers. This will most likely get locked or deleted anyway.

you're supposed to get shot at by people, stop complaining.
in case you haven't even bothered to read the box, website title or opening splash to the game it is called ****VENDETTA**** online
not puppies and kittens online or hugs and kisses online. If he wants to go around blasting everyone he sees out of the sky he is more than welcome too, perhaps that is his roleplay and you are disturbing him by whining and therefore you are the ones who should be complained about? hmm? give that some thought.

Certainly, Crazyspence. Thank you for your contribution. I would
suggest that you read :

and hopefully, come to a clearer understanding that I am not the only person who thinks this behaviour has no place in a game.

Indeed, I would like point out the last post by Ctishman in the 2nd thread. Apparently, it pans out that I have to resort to this outburst.

And Arolte : I do not require a response from you.

One thing is would like to add to this is *us* (meaning the online active userbase) actually *vote muted* arolte, and its my understanding he was unmuted (30 votes isnt easy to get, I have been trying since release) and although this was more an expression of dislike towards arolte's actions, it was also to stop him gloating on 100 when he actually managed to kill a new guy who just happens to be in the wrong guild (said player also had good UiT standing) - yet the mute was revoked...

...I believe that there was no abuse of trial accounts, and no reason to revoke the mute.

Hi All

This thread had been removed from circulation because it had clearly gotten out of hand. My apologies to those who thought it had been deleted without explanation. In a similar situation I might advise that a new thread be left behind to indicate what had occurred with the "missing" thread.

Addressing the complaint: I note that none of the subjects listed were actually violating VO rules. It appears to be a clash in how two parties have conducted their role-playing efforts. Neither method is inherently more correct than the other. Ideally we will have more structure to guide our role play in roughly parallel directions, but there are always going to be players who enjoy being an exception to the norm. I'm certain I don't want to play a game that is so constraining that everyone is forced into the same or harmonious behaviors. Guild does a great job of accepting user feedback in building Vendetta into a a great game, but make no mistake: this is not a democracy. Guild has a very clear vision of what Vendetta should be.

Grey space, and specifically Sedina B8, is not a good place to be if one objects to being fired upon. Grey space is like the "Wild West" of the movies. It's rough and dangerous by design. Some argue that it's too safe.

Regarding /vote mute: We are aware that users had banded together to use /vote mute to punish a player for in-game behaviors and statements made in the forums. We also became aware that the command did not operate exactly as intended (this actually worked out to be good for testing). /vote mute was intended as a way for the community to silence users who, in the absence of guides or Dev's to intervene, verbally abuse others or otherwise violate the Rules of Conduct as they apply to the radio channels. We /unmuted those who we found, after review of the logs, to have been /vote muted without cause. I see this misuse of /vote mute as an infraction far worse than the ones the player was felt to have made.

Please review the Rules of Conduct, and report those who violate them privately to the Dev's via email (john@guildsoftware.com).

Lastly, please attempt to be more tolerant of different modes of play. It's a big universe and there's room for differences.
