Third mission refuses to finish.

I've played it through about 10 times, each time when I entered the second sector, I recieved no messages.

When I killed all the bots in the second sector, again, no messages, and no completion.

These missions need two things: A major rewrite and about 24 hours of debugging.

Devs - I am beside myself impressed with this update! You came through big time! Dig the new Moth (especially killing it!) Love that bots and NPCs drop loot (lawguns pwn!), and the new raptor is sweet looking, if a little in need of some expensive higher performance varients.

I would second Yoda in asking why you dropped the performance levels on the Valk? Didn't seen neccesary.

Otherwise, AWESOME UPDATE!

And why they turned Rev C into something closely resembling Vult Mk1, as BUNNY says?

Devs, please give us back the old Rev C, or at least make it usable. There are people who want it.

No! I like the new Rev Cs, they arent so uber any more!

Miharu. I would read Inc's message again. The mission is possible it is just difficult. Woah something that takes tiem to figure out.... astounding.

I haven't actually had any first-hand experience with the slower speeds and such, but judging from the amount of talk 'bout them I heard ingame, these changes are a smashing success with me.

You guys really came through here. Just don't stop

I'd apreciate you drinking a nice hot steaming cup of STFU Mih, and to stop taking things so personally, but it isnt going to happen, so, whatever.

Anyways, im really loving, this stuff, and I did manage to do the bloody TPG mission after a lot of tries, and to be honest, if you left the Raptor as it is, but gave it 4 s ports, it would be nice, but right now its crap, and im glad its crap, cos id rather its *beta* was crap than uber... :)

Thanks for the fun CygnusX... I wasn't doing anything till I figured out that up close and personal was the way to go. In the new RevC, no less... that's gonna take a bit to get used to, but I think I like it so far!

And the third TP mission *may be* finishable (obviously) because I was able to complete all three missions on the first try... but it *is* borked. Lebes was trying over and over, I've since taken it three times (take care of the first set of bots with little help from the escorts, hop to the second sector... clear that out and then nothing...). And I have the logs for the entire night if the devs want them. At least I got my bot kills up in a rather short period of time.

Phoque.

I can't emphasize how much the 3-mission requirement for this Raptor ship sucks.

It *really* does. It's maddening. I'm utterly p*ssed.

What's the point when all requirements for all other specialty ships is tied to faction standing (Agresso is +960 Tunguska!).

Now I realise I have most-excellent TPG standing for NOTHING. Thanks a lot for time well wasted.

if youre not being sarcastic, i think youre playing the wrong game.

you realise that there will eventually be mission requirements for most special ships? in *addition* to standing.
Apr 01, 2006 tumblemonster link
I think the mission requirement is great. The mission is buggy, which is known, but it will be fixed soon. If anything, I thought it was too easy. I expect ship ownership missions will become more involved and more complex as the system is fleshed out and larger ships and varients come along. It's a great step into a larger, interactive universe.

Also, love the bigger rev C! It's shootable now!

I don't recall ever hearing that you would need ultra-high standing with TPG to get the ship. Last I heard, it was only going to be available to those who have been playing for >6 months.

There has been lots of talk about making specialty ships only available after completing chains of missions, and also lots of talk about the faction system getting a rework. I don't think anyone should have been blindsided by the mission requirement for the Raptor.
Apr 01, 2006 mgl_mouser link
ALL specialty ships in game have required high levels and excellent standing. The Tung Aggresso requires 960 standing, let alone the levels. It's 800 + level 8 for the Valk. Just about the same for Maud X.

What's the point of leveling if you're required to do a mission to obtain any ship?

For * sake, damnit, I think that a level 10 combat shows you're more than apt at botting than the pissy artemis, orun, dentek junk we have to go through. It's not balanced at all. Get us a couple of big nasties in there instead of a bazillion moskitos. And it'd be nice if the frickin TPG drone escort wouldn't get in the way and decide to turn on you if they get caught in some bot's explosion.

Let alone the fact the mission is borked.

I've not complaint much at VO and have remained pretty optimistic but this takes the cake. One of the only time I got really pissed and left the game because of the game itself.

ok, after completing the raptor mission tree, i have observed that when i hit an ion storm on the way to the target sector the mission invariably fails end when it should. yet when i managed to get a storm free auto-rout the mission worked just fine. i'm not sure if that is usefull information or not.

anyway, about the raptor, it seem inferior to the TPG maud X in every regard (except maximum turbo speed). so exactly what role is it suposed to fill (other than being new and prety)? my best guess is that it's 54 turbo drain is supposed to be combined with the UC battery for high speed infini-turbo-charging (i'm assuming the UC charges at 55/s as i don't know that first hand), but that seems like it wouldn't be all that inpressive.

however critacysam asside: i'm glad mission trees are being used to determin ship availability on some level, and i love the dropped widgets (i haven't grabbed any good ones yet, but it's still cool). So i give the update as a whole a B+ (it would have been a solid A if the valk hadn't been unexplicedly nerfed).

TPG Test Pilot mission:
1st attempt - Step I. Successful.
1st attempt - Step II. Storm enroute - bots either never arrived or jumped out.
2nd attempt - Step II. All bots destroyed except, at least 1 jumped out.
3rd attempt - Step II. Successful.
1st Attempt - Step IIIa. Successful.
1st Attempt - Step IIIb. Was sent to a Queen sector. I died.
2nd Attempt - Step IIIa. Successful (all bots killed*).
2nd Attempt - Step IIIb. Successful.
*tumblemonster advised right after that only 5 bots need to be killed before you can go to the second sector for IIIb.

It's a great mission, Lots of fun!

I'll follow RelayeR's set:

TPG Test Pilot mission:
1st attempt - Step I. No bots spawned because another player was in target sector
2st attempt - Step I. No bots spawned because I hit a storm
3rd attempt - Step I. No bots spawned because I avoided the storm by stopping in another sector.
4th attempt - Step I. Successful
1st attempt - Step II. Attempted to bypass known storm sector again. No bots.
2nd attempt - Step II. Successful.
1st Attempt - Step IIIa. Sent back to the sector with another player in it. No bots.
2nd Attempt - Step IIIa. Successful (all bots killed, even the ones I didn't need to kill).
2nd Attempt - Step IIIb. Successful.

:-D

Have the same problem with the third mission and Im not a good pilot so I really dont feel like doing the whole damn thing over again.

I've still got it in my mission log and it wont finish.

But I do like the way it was packaged, it was something new, and with the mission I was actually working towards something.

Regarding the mission:

The storm thing is a known issue that I didn't have time to get addressed. The messaging thing, as I said earlier, is also known and cropped up at the last minute. But, since I had completed the mission four times without problems, I put it into production anyway.

Basically, it doesn't send you messages properly. BUT, if you kill five bots in IIIa, and then all the bots in IIIb, and return to the same station that issued the mission.. it should complete. It did for me every time. But, of course, I knew that was what I was supposed to do, which is part of the problem.

The OTHER possible problem is that you have to kill *every* bot in IIIb. If one is blown up by the sympathetic explosion of a nearby bot.. then you won't have killed it, and it will not count towards your total. I guess I must have just separated them reasonably well when I played through the mission. But, they can clump together at times and detonate sympathetically, so it's possible that that is what people are running into. We'll fix the mission early next week, but people will have to deal over the weekend.

The mission editor is still pretty pre-production, but hey, at least we're getting some content into the game from it. We'll sort out these bugs and have smoother sailing soon enough.

We could have just stuck the Raptor in there normally, but I really wanted to at least *try* doing a mission tree. C'est la vie.

My mission string

1) took mission one, jumped one sector, killed all bots, completed
2) took mission two, jumped one sector, killed all bots, completed
3) took mission three, jumped one sector, killed all bots, ignored TPG SF, jumped one sector, killed all bots, completed.
