By 'effect' do you mean wireframe?

Myth: ew.

Regarding colors/density: The fog density seems a little on the thick side -- this may be due to it being a bright green color instead of the darker blue of ion storms, I'm not sure -- perhaps a darker shade of green would offset this. It's definitely bright enough to hurt my eyes.

If the density did change based on "weather" and other variables (like say, the more things manufactured/produced by a station or the higher the average temperature of the asteroids containing xith in the sector, the denser the fog, etc.) that'd be pretty cool, and would allow for expansion of some of the weather monitoring projects by some players, like Moda's storm-tracking system that is still up but hasn't really gone anywhere lately.

As far as the sun showing through, that's actually pretty cool looking, especially when something passes between the sun and the player. Perhaps make it dependent on the sector's proximity to the system's sun(s), so that it shows more brightly (but not necessarily more clearly) the closer you are, and much less so the farther away you go. Using Dau K-10 as the example because the sun is so much more obvious in that sector (I don't think I even saw the Verasi suns when I stopped over there, they were probably hidden behind the station), it seems a little on the bright side. Spidey's mockup is closer to what I would expect for clouds of that density.

the fog is pretty cool, but loose the wireframes (unless someone has a radar extender).

My 2 cents.

If they are in a sector with a station they are friendly + with.. It can assumed that the station has a radar extender (or several, throughout the sector) and your ship is simply using that data to construct the wireframes.

Similar to how our AWACS work today..

Speaking of.... just had a suggestion.. off to the suggestion forums@!! AWAY!

Ok, I just had to check this NEW fog out. The effect is very nice - however the wireframe sux royally. There HAS to be a better way to render things out of visual range. Maybe an effect like shortsightedness - things can be made REALLY blurry.

One quick inconsistency however - the station in the fog (DAU K10 I think) - has HUGE solar cells extending out. These would be near useless in the fog wouldn't they?

That's not solar cells, that's fog cells :)
