question about game pads...

I have a Game Elements Recoil game pad. I managed to get every thing set up well enough but the analog sticks are incredibly sensitive.

Is there a way to lower the sensitivity on game pads?

I think we have some degree of dead-zone configuration in the game, but.. I don't have a joystick plugged in right now, so I can't really check.

If you can increase the size of the deadzone (the area in which the joystick is considered "centered", and must be moved out of in order to cause a directional input), that might make it feel less "sensitive".

Not sure if that's really your issue though. Playing with options in the OS could also be useful. Ultimately, it could simply be that the gamepad ramps from minimum to maximum input too quickly (fly slightly left and turn hard left are too close together.. in the hardware, basically).

No sensitivity, just dead zone. The very reason I gave up on a joystick.

I gave up on the gamepad as well for the same reason... we could use a ramp adjustment added for this.

Can't you adjust joystick sensitivity in your OS?

On the Mac side, there is usually no way to custom configure joysticks or other input devices since most manufacturers only provide configuration software for Windows.

I tried the js config for linux and it completely messed it up. I just settle for what VO offers atm, though if I didn't completely suck with a mouse I would toss every js I've bought.

The adjustments dont really help - the game pad analog sticks do not have the fine control you normally get with a stick due to thier physical size so there is a strong tendency to oversteer. The digital "d" pads can be mapped to keystrokes but are usually on the wong side of most pads....

On windows (7) there's a calibration utility, but it doesn't adjust the sensitivity (response curve) of the joystick.

I've been looking for a piece of software that does this for quite some time now :/

Perhaps this could be moved to suggestions. I've wanted to be able to adjust the JS sensitivity since I started playing and have had to make due with adjustments to the dead zone both on linux and windows. I even tried the software to my favorite stick when I returned to windows with no joy.

And like Fist, I totally suck ass with a mouse.
