Geez - you'd think a guy who can program a game like this could drive a truck better.

The question remains, how does a1k0n know all this stuff without being with the repair crew? Pure speculation or psychic powers? You decide...

/me plays twilight zone music

UPDATE: I just figured out that you crummy Earthlings have these things called "telephones."

So a garbage truck was tooling around in the industrial park where our internet service provider is located with the forks used to haul dumpsters all the way up. Voila, it drives right through the fiber connection to the building, which is for some strange reason strung up on a telephone pole above the road rather than buried. This was roughly at 7AM.

Well, there's a redundant circuit in place, so the backup circuit takes the extra load and works until around 9:30, when the card the other circuit is plugged into fails mysteriously. Time Warner comes out and replaces it and it's back up around noonish.

Well, now BOTH paths just went down due to some other problem, probably misconfiguration or another dead card, but they have no idea why as yet. So our web server and game server can't reach one another right now. In fact, I imagine nobody can contact anything in that building right now, including our game server. Arrrrgh!

So......it must have been fixed because I'm logged in. :-D

Okay, the leading theory is that the fiber splice didn't work and they just tried to cut over to the spliced circuit. It just came back up, probably under the redundant circuit again. I expect connections to be spotty tonight until this is resolved.

You may have been able to reach the game server just fine depending on which way the routing goes from your source IP.

I wasn't able to log in as of about 15 minutes ago. (3:50ish). This explains it. Oh well. Guess I'll need to study instead. Damn.

Hehehe... It sliced the fiber apart? Wow... How protected was the line? I'd assume it was shielded with PVC or something...

 Wed, Oct 22, 2003  Urza
it was just strung up in the air. probably no shielding at all.

I think it was...one external fiber port to wire which goes through the ISP building's window then into guild's building window and into the other fiber port and etc. Very protected and much more secure compaired to underground PVC shielding.

It is the better way to go :P
