This is great progress, thanks Inc and Ray!
One thing I forgot to ask last night and haven't seen addressed is does this impact 3rd parties, such as someone coming to the victim's aid?
Only applies to the victim. I asked Ray about that if it worked for gunners onboard the attacked ship as well. The answer is no.
We'll improve the situation with turrets; but as for true third-parties, I don't intend to expend energy on a solution for that anytime soon. This was just designed to allow rudimentary self-defense for an individual in factional space.

Good progress, I'm glad to see the mechanisms to adjust these things are being introduced. Let's see how they work out in game.
Vendetta Online: Stand Your Ground Edition
I see this as a big improvement for new players. A new player can reasonably be expected to die, every time. But at least they can shoot back without the faction warning message telling them to not shoot back. Now a new player can legally fight back. Dying is part of the game. Not being allowed to fight back should not be.
This does open up a small hole, in that if you trick a new player into shooting you first, you can kill them without faction loss. But it is something a new player can learn to work around.
