Missions and licence : Howto

Apr 28, 2004 Spider link
okay. To get a mission:
dock in a station, select the missions tab, select a mission (suggested the combat training) and accept it.

for every drone you kill you get a small skill bonus.
for every 5 drones, you get a higher mission bonus.
The mission bonus raises the more bots you have killed, over 100 bots in a line gives you >1000 skillpoints for every five bots.

limits are (correct me if I'm wrong)
2000 skill
5000 skill
9500 skill
16250 skill
...and so on.

To take a license you must -end- the mission, then go back to the mission tab and take the "license test" mission. (this resets the mission bonus)

The license test will cost you a fair share of credits. My last one was >58k credits

Example of bonuses related to your license:
level 1 pilot: Centurion
level 2 pilot: Light engine
level 3 pilot: Warthog (might need heavy weapons too for this)
level 4 pilot: Vulture

Level 1 light weapons: Ion Blaster
level 3 light weapons : Yellowjacket

level 4 heavy weapons: Jackhammer missiles

Level 1 trade: wraith (may need levels in other things too.)

A note is that all items aren't in all sectors, explore some to see.

To talk to the "Mission computer" you type "/msg *Mis<tab>" (note the * in the beginning) the number at the end has to correspond to your current sector. Try sending it "help" to start with.

(( post corrections/additions and I'll edit this to keep up to date. ))
(( sorry bout the misspelling in the topic line.. please correct, FM ))

Level 2 grants you a Light Engine. Level 3 grants you a Light Battery and the Ion Blaster.

Ion canon is granted by lvl1 light weapons i belive...
lvl1 heavy does nothing ;D

Essentially the order everything is given to you is the same way all the items were listed for the previous version (by cost?). Or at least that's how it's been so far. Bus, Centurion, Warthog, etc.

yeah. I'm wondering a bit about the larger ships ( when can I get my prom? and the cargo-cleaning atlas? ;)

However this was mostly to rid some of the in-game questions, I don't know how many times I got asked how to get a license and so on. It was utterly annoying.

Much appreciated, Spider. We seem to need a FAQ that you can like, shoot at each other.
Apr 28, 2004 Hoax link
Yeah, and if you get hit by the FAQ your chat would be muted until you read the whole thing.

Wasn't it a1k0n that said Vendetta test "is as user friendly as it's users are friendly".

Thanks friendly user Spider...

You may have different weapons available at different stations... for instance, my 4/2/2 char couldn't buy any L-Port weapons in s4, but could buy the homing l-port missle in s15. Same with yellowjackets - not available in 4, available in 15.

So if you level up and don't get anything, you might just not get anything new AT THAT STATION.

Purely conjecture :P

Small correction, Spider... level 4 is at 16250

And to add to the list:

Level 3 Pilot: Warthog
Level 3 Light Weapons: Yellowjacket <- this was in s6

so perhaps each weapon has different clearance levels in different sectors?

Thanks for the additionals. I added the part about how to talk to the mission computer as well, hopefully this will kill some of the most frequent questions around. *cough*

I don't think theres much need to spoil peoples explorations beyond level 4 , do you, folks? (*hint* This means, don't post the exact gains and boons after level 4. ;)

1/0/0/1 gives you light engine, centurion and wraith.

Key: Combat Piloting/Light Weapons/Heavy Weapons/Trading

When you level up, the new inventory does not appear immediately, you need to leave the station and return, or log off. So I suspect all basic equipment is available everywhere at the same level, its just that people did not see it when they first leveled up.

I'm sure once we all collect enough info someone will compile it into a skill/tech tree.

Preliminary Compilation Tech Tree

Key: Combat/Light Weapon/Heavy Weapon/Trade

1/0/0/1: Light Engine, Centurion, Wraith
1/0/0/0: Centurion
2/0/0/0: Warthog
3/0/0/0: N/A?

1/0/0/1: Light Engine, Centurion, Wraith
1/0/0/2: Atlas
1/0/0/3: Centuar?

This is the preliminary tech tree I've seen based on my limited flight expierence and the compilation materials here. Correct any errors.

Uhhh... combat level 3 gives you a vulture? I'm combat level 4 and I don't have access to one. Mine only goes up to a Warthog. Bug?

Here are my stats:

4/2/2/0

EC-88
Centurion
Warthog

That's it.

I don't think trade lvl 2 gives you an atlas either, or if it does, it is only in some stations after all. I have trade 2 but have not seen atlases yet.

8C/6S/6L/1T

I get all kinds of cool goodies.

Ion (0), Phased (2), Charged (4), Yellowjacket (3), Railgun (6), Flechette (6), Gemini (5) for small port- Jackhammer (4), Screamer (6), Gatling (6), Plasma (2) and Stingray (2) for large port.

Ships you'll get: Cent (1), Hog (2), Vult (5), Hornet (6), Rag (8)- and Wraith for 1 combat and trading.

Skill levels: (approx)

1: 2000
2: 5000
3: 9500
4: 16000
5: 26000
6: 44000
7: 66500
8: 101000
9: 148000
10+: ?

You won't get any better engines/batteries without at least level 1 trading skill. I have everything but the Fast Charge batt and Med engine.

Yeah that's right! Trading is the way to go, guys! Unfortunately, if getting a fast and durable ship for the future exploration of the new universe requires leveling up in combat skills, eventually I'll need to do that. But maybe with all the new sectors and such coming, you can find the occasional black market where they'll sell you things that you normally shouldn't have! ROAR!

Speaking of which, how do you level up in weapons? Just use them a lot? I want an atlas...
Apr 29, 2004 Pyroman_Ace link
To level up weapons you have to score kills on bots (Maybe PKs, I dont know currently).

Best way to level is to get bonuses on them while conducting Combat Training missions in your repective home defense-system (4,6, 12)
Apr 29, 2004 Arolte link
So... is it combat or trading that gets you the better engines and batteries? So far 50% of the people said one way, and 50% of the players said the other way. I got a feeling its more combat related, since I got my light engine and battery that way. I think trading only gives you the Wraith, Atlas, Centaur... or something like that.
