Standings explained

May 11, 2004 Spider link
Okay, Theres a lot of interesting issues with standings now, and I'd like to get something clear from this on how its supposed to work, what the penalties are and so on.

Can somone please enlighten me? I'm probably one of those who has tested this out a bit more than most, and I can't help but feeling utterly confused, so I'd like to get this clear for me.

How are penalties given? What numbers vs. what numbers? How do sectors and other things fit this?

Okay, How is it that sometimes I can kill somone without a hit to my standing, and other times I cnanot? Was that only the -1000 bug, or was it something else?

How much a reputation hit is taken, what factors are there?

Resepected goes on at least to ~+500

if you kill person X in home sector of faction he's loved in, you will take a faction hit.

likewise for all other sectors AFAIK.

Yes, however : I'm serco, Neutral towards itani:

How large a hit, and what decides it, do I take if I kill an itani in s4 compared to in s8?

Those are things I'm sorta wondering about, and how much does their standing have to be with a sector for me to take a hit. Is it enough that its higher than mine? is there a threshold?

If you kill a person that is dislike by your nation, you will receive a bonus. If you kill someone respected/liked/loved (an NT, for example), eventually, you might get locked out of 12! Be careful where you kill people. If you kill an Itani in 9, and he's loved by TPG, you might not be able to dock there, or in 7. A good rule of thumb is to not shoot at NT pilots. You can raise your Itani rating by first not killing anyone Itani, then doing cargo missions in 1 and 4.

FYI, Neutral goes up to +200, Respected is at +201.

When do you become respected? I'm a bit over 500 and nothing such yet...

Future Note for all Aesir League members...

You need to be on good terms with every major nation. This is a must for the purpose of diplomacy.

Could you move that discussion to Role Playing please? Still no search feature, so I'm trying to keep things on topic.

Did I understand a1k0n (I think) right that there weren't any personal standings implemented between nations yet? That its just fixed numbers?
May 13, 2004 spectre_c_me link
if im not mistaken the above standings is the standings for your nation only. Respected, i believe, is used for factions outside your nation... I am more than likely wrong but thats just how i am.

so basically, What <fooplayer> has for a standing vs <nation> has no effect at all on pvp settings?

Jolly GREAT. Can somone remind me why I've tried to get a decent standing with itani?

okay, this has been tested out a bit more thoroughly now, and here are the results:

NT player kills Serco player
what -always- happens, is that you lose serco standing. Its at -200 right now.
after that, there is a "sector specific" standing change, which might give you further change vs serco (if you kill a loved serco in s12 or s2 you will lose even more, another -1000 added.)

Itani vs. serco are at war, so either will get a + their own nation, and - the other nation.

However, an itani killing a serco in s4, when the serco is admire d with itani :

+ itani for killing a serco
- serco for killing a serco
- itani for killing somone admired in that sector.

however, this isn't very lethal, you might get -900 or so, but you can't be locked out of your nations homesector. At least not as far as durgias testing concluded.
