New Ship Accel Tests

Here's a table of ships' turbo acceleration with a heavy engine in m/s^2 (their accel isn't really constant, so it's really only how fast they go after 1 second of turbo from a dead stop). I tested this using the following alias
/alias accelTest "+turbo; wait 1 '+turbo 0'"
after holding the brakes for a few seconds to make sure the ship was at a complete stop (note I was in physics mode so there was no speed increase or decrease after the turbo finished).

Rag: 15 m/s^2
Rag MKII: 16
Rag MKIII: 18
Atlas: 21
Atlas MKII: 21
Atlas MKIII: 22
Wraith: 22
Wraith MKII: 22
Wraith MKIII: 24
Hornet: 31
Hornet MKII: 31
Warthog: 33
Hornet MKIII: 34
Warthog MKII: 35
EC-88: 35
Warthog MKIII: 36
Warthog MKIV: 36
EC-98: 36
EC-101: 36
Cent: 42
Cent MKII: 42
Cent MKIII: 42
Itani Border: 42
Vult MKII: 52
Vult MKIII: 52
Vult MKIV: 54

I see. so Itani has a special "itani border" centurion

Serco has some sort of special "serco guard" vulture.

and Eldrad, you haven't tested the valk : ). I'm curious... I'll test the prom when I get back to my homesectors

to anyone who can dock in foreign nations: can you buy "semi special ships" like the itani border from other nations too?
Jun 23, 2004 Eldrad link
I think the semi-specials are based on faction rating... Corvus has a Vult that's special too.

As for the valk I have not been able to purchase it. I'm not sure if the lvl requirements were upped for it in this version or what.

I don't think any of the "Mark" versions are special at all. If you look closely the only thing that's different between the versions is the engine type (light, med, hvy, eff), cargo capacity, and hull. I don't think there are any artificial boosts in speed or acceleration. At least this is what I've observed so far. If I'm wrong the devs can correct me on this one.

"As for the valk I have not been able to purchase it. I'm not sure if the lvl requirements were upped for it in this version or what."

The gauss requirements seem to have been lowered.....either that or there are more versions above Mk. II that are more powerful.

We also have the Serco Skycommand Prometheus

there is also the corvus Marauder Mercenary :D, a corvus vultarius.

a bus with 2 small ports.

and a warthog neutral territories...

I still wonder at what level we can get a super super valk or super super maud like the skycommand prometheus is a super super prom :D

PS eldrad, why did you forget the centaur ???

cheers

The Itani Border Centurion is as good as a vult- two small ports, with no wingbug and more maneuverability. :P

But, does it look as cooll as a vult when it is pink?
Jun 24, 2004 harvestmouse link
cool rogue!2 small ports... does it have the same acceleration as a vult? (if that is what you mean by maneuverability)

Lem: yea. it does.
Jun 24, 2004 Renegade ++RIP++ link
higher harvest.

Cent has a higher agility by default...

well i have the prom, so they definitely changed the level requirements. I can only buy it in 1 sector so far tho. the "home" sector for serco. hmm need to check the "command" stations in some of the other serco sectors.

There are 3 versions of the prom, including one with 14 cargo and an extra 500 hull. :)

btw anyone found a black market sector yet?
Jun 24, 2004 Eldrad link
Rog, The Border Cent has worse maneuverability than the Vults mark II+ (I forgot to test the standard vult for some reason but I'm sure they're not 10m/s/s slower).
Though Arolte there's no question that a Cent with two small ports and significantly more hull than normal cents is definitely special.

I've found at least one blackmarket (that sells nice stuff that I don't appear to have the level requirement for, as well as some other things I haven't found else where. Not to mention of course the specials exchange program).

Also note, Corvus Vulturius and Serco Guard both got to 55 on the acceleration test.

I have found both black market sectors....The bots confused with all the new types of specials, so the devs disabled the trade for other nation special ships...

I think the Itani Border Centurion (IBC) was a nice little nick to them for having invented the Valk...finally, a Serco supremacy in Vulture fighters!

The standard vulture isn't 10, I beleive it was 4 or 5 m/s/s slower though, so perhaps a good Border jock could kill a standard Vulture, maybe.

Although, for the Itani's since their main thing seems to be scuffling with NT and Serco in small engagements, often using superior numbers to augement weaker firepower, the IBC is definetly an upgrade to them since now they dont have the little one-gun runners.

There's mass differences between the vultures. That's why a MkIV is faster. Plus it carries an extra cargo compared to a MkIII.

So.. Back to the days of 3.1
BLue gets nice cent, red gets nice vult, gold probably gets a hornet.
Jun 24, 2004 Arolte link
So is Mark IV the highest?
Jun 24, 2004 Renegade ++RIP++ link
gold gets nice warthog ...

PS: could it be possible to infuse a tradeship with a medium or an efficeint engine ... Since they run out of juice so fast with their heavy engine :(

With a cent I could kill valks many valks (I even got a good vet who shall remain nameless to 35% in a duel when he was flying a valk and I was in a bus) in the old version.
With smaller size and a bit of skill difference, a 25% accel difference can be overcome pretty easily.

a1, can we see the mass of the ship instead of the useless "agility" rating? (aswell as the moment of inertia or what ever you use as your ship based constant for angular acceleration?)
