P-Wipe at Gold?

Jul 12, 2004 k0fcc link
Do we know if there will be a player wipe when we go gold? I guess my real question is whether or not our current accounts will be migrated over the production system as is or will we have to sign up as newbies with everyone else. I guess I don't mind that much. I've been playing now for what seems forever. :-)

What is no. What's the point? The devs won't wipe their db of accounts, unless they remove some inactive accounts.

There will most likely be a reset, they will probably wipe accounts that were inactive for more than 6 months. Then to "activate" our accounts we will start paying....so our names will be reserved....and if after a while some peoples accounts aren't activated they'll be wiped.

Most of the games that didn't p-wipe at the end of beta failed miserably in their retail undertakings.

Coincidence?

An instance of the logical fallacy "Post hoc, ergo propter hoc." ("After that, therefore because of that.")

I would bet that most games that failed miserably did so because of bigger faults than the lack of a reset after beta.

If there isn't a reset after beta, there'll be a serious problem. We should keep one charname of our choice (word has it that vendetta-final users will be limited to one character), but all stats, xp and standings should be reset. If they aren't, it'll be an extremely noob-hostile final environment, and I won't really want to play it.

I like the idea of letting us keep our names (would save confusion :D) but it's only fair if we get a reset.

Is the new account sign ups back up? I don't remember seeing these names before... oh well.

Yes...who are these people so knowledgable of the failure of games and have been "playing forever"?

Turmoyl's been here for awhile. I dunno about thginkrej or k0fcc, though.

Probably people who played in a previous version then went away for a while. Not everyone is active on the forums while being active in game... once they heard about or randomly checked back here and found the new version they returned.

You know me as Rescue in Game, btw. I've been here from just about the beginning (came over from Jumpgate). I'm interest mostly in the non-fps portions of the game. I hope that Vendetta will expand to including exploration type activities as well as mining (although I had lots of experience doing both in EnB and Jumpgate).

The reason I posted this thread is really to get more details. I've been a beta tester on 10 games now and every one they p-wipe about two weeks prior to launch giving beta testers two weeks to play and build up their scores.

We testers will have enough of an advantage by already knowing the game mechanics. I don't think we need any additional edge. Just a token of recognition would be a nice little touch.

I don't think there should be a wipe, so I can get the most value on ebay! err... maybe a wipe is.. not such a bad Idea...

We'll probably let active people keep recently used accounts and characters, but all stats and progress will be wiped and reset. No one is going to go into the production version with a high-level Test character ;).

hey... just think, the average tester will be leveling/trading so much faster than the average n00b. most of us will have experienced at least -some- pvp combat, and can hold our own when in peril. we can mentor other players and get good mentoring points.

and that already rocks a lot -_~
