You like the idf??? why? (what do you mean by idf? i know it as one thing)
Aug 30, 2004 Renegade ++RIP++ link
idf valkyrie

2 cargopods, very high agility, 11k hull, 3 weaponpods...

What more can you ask...

I've found three until now.

valkerie rune (my favourite :)):
6 cargo, forgot the weight 5900?, 10.5k hull, 3 weapon

Itani valkerie:
4 cargo, weight?, 10k hull, 3 weapon

valkerie vengance:
4 cargo, weight 3k, 10.5k hull, 3 weapon

What surprised me was that I can get all of them already with my current levels(8/9/8/11) and as a neutral.

And I finally found out that the whole point of every single space trading game is the race to get the baddest ship in the game.

let the itani have their valks...
but give comparable ships to the other races!

Right, and a few months ago rene was complaining about valk jocks...
Aug 30, 2004 Renegade ++RIP++ link
hey...

as long as they arent used as a pirating or griefingtool then I dont mind one thing. Marauders are actually just as bad...

and yes they outclass any other ship so easilly that it aint funny anymore :(. So I hope that everybody gets one in one way or another.

But if sercos get valks, then I want a prom... and a marauder.

But I was just wondering if there where more valks due to the reason that you can get a derivative of the marauder with corvus, so I was hoping to get a derivative of the prom with biocom or neutral stars or something like that.

And I still think that we need to put in more slots to balance all these ships even more..., but that is something for another day.

Keep in mind that back in the days when most of the complaints were coming in about the valks, you could get one anywhere. Now it's limited by who you are and where you are. Your valk-weilding assailant may have to trek all the way back across the universe to get a new ship if it is destroyed, and then it'll take them quite awhile to make it back to you. The balance is happening in quiet and mysterious ways.

but then you are basing yourselve only on the point that he will not survive. And you know as well as us, that that was the biggest beef. they could dish out much and still get out unscathed if they really tried.

But we will see, at least the monitored sectors will offer a bigger protection then in the past.

Skycommand, we have a problem.

Or do we?

Remember, our Skycommand Prometheus has the same % more hull, and is also a LOT faster than the original.

The balance is exactly the same as before, only in this version, armored support is far more needed. And you remember the valk vs. vult fights? Pretty even, with skilled pilots in both. We have the Serco Guardian vulture, remember? Not even the Corvus one compares to it. Our MkIII prom has 14 cargo slots, meaning it can run missions no valk can ever run, and can defend itself better than any marauder.

Stop picking holes in the balance. Its fine. I have no beefs about the prom any more because it has its role, when the floodgates open and we get huge firefights, proms will be very much needed. You've all seen me, Renegade, SirCamps, Ku, Asp, and many more fend off valkyries in the prometheus before, and the upgraded versions square off about the same as the unupgraded ones. And agility only gets you so far, remember that the difference between vulture and valkyrie is next to un-noticeable in a dogfight.

Neutral have it very cushy indeed. They can achieve Admire status with both Serco and Itani far easier than pilots from either side, they have awesome ships of their own and access to most of the specials from Serco and Itani- their ships are military ships, not mercenary/trading ships. No way would you find one at a place like Corvus unless some pilot had risked his neck/standing trying to get a nation special there without being spotted by a Serco/Itani drone/player and being reported for it.

I'm not making much sense anymore, so I'll shut up.

I'll pit my Skycommand prom against any valk pilot in the game. I wont gaurentee that i'll win, but you WILL know you were in a fight.

The biggest problem with the valk has always been that it makes a SUPERB rocket platform, the ability to boost up to high speeds in a very short time to launch flares IMO made it truly unbalanced. Well guess what, rocketramming is dead. Not because it isnt a powerful tactic, but because 16 rounds is not enough firepower to take to a dogfight anymore. You cant run away and rearm, then return to the fight inside of 60 seconds anymore.

I think the moral of this story is that we should focus our attention to the problems we are currently dealing with (storms, menu oddities, loading issues, etc.) and not get too carried away with speculation - unless some folks want to agree to get together in sufficient numbers to test this stuff out in the latest universe. I'm in for that.

The wonderful thing about Proms: Big, long, and can't go between rail shots ^_^

So does Itani have a special version of the valk - im confused. I mean like one with a cool name.

actually the current beef I have with the valk is not so much the valk, but the engines. With infinite boost a valk pilot can destroy a hog or centurion and not even slow down. Those people without infinite boost are at a horrible disadvantage towards those that do. However its not so big that it would drastically alter much as things stand now. I can see it becoming a problem when we go into stress testing though.

Would be nice for traders to have slower ~180ms boost that lasts a long time, but not forever and fighters getting 200ms boost but for shorter times.

/me follows Durgia's off topic post.

I agree, the engine/battery system we have now needs a lot of tweaking.

Fastest Speed in Game + Fast Charge = Impossible to catch (as in, your ship will never gain ground).

I don't know where the devs are going with this built in engine system, but right now the numbers need a lot of tweaking.

infinite boost has been ingame before now, and if the devs removed it then, I'm sure the infinite boost we have now isn't here to stay. right now, infinite boost is good for exploring the universe... accelerated testing!
there isn't as much pvp going on, so duel balance can be worked out later
Aug 31, 2004 Renegade ++RIP++ link
ay, but you couldnt attain infinite boost at 200km/h.

it was at something like 160. Although it sure is fun to cruise against top speed, it makes travelling through all the sectors/system less irritating. And with this huge universe, I really dont consider it to be a luxury.

PS: is a wraith mk4 close to a prom? Or is there another wraith special hidden somewhere? I so need to duel with a wraith agaisnt a prom. Or a serco guard against a valk. Just to see if they are so equal...

Personally I still think that the old engine slot needs to be replaced with a "gizmo" slot that you can add either:

top speed turbo booster to (increase energy consumption by 5)
or
infinite turbo modification (decrease energy consumption by 5; loose 5 from max boost)

and then have the FC batt leave you at 5 energy short of infinite turbo
