Have most of the game graphics been disabled, in the stress client?
I was wondering if the default setting for the graphics, are the lowest possible for test purposes?
If they are not and are near to the best availible, if may be that some people do not find them good enough to play the game.

I know it's a bit of a moan, but was just wondering if there is better to come.

?

I think the graphics look great!

Put everything on the highest setting and run in 1280x1024... Although I only have the background detail on "High" rather than "Very High", cos i start getting a performance hit...

Then I have no idea I'm afraid... I don't really use Windows.

Could it be you don't have the permissions in Win2K to change the video mode or something?

Windows XP limited accounts have rights to change all that stuff, I don't see why 2k would be any different.

Regarding backgrounds: Extremely High (the best setting) looks considerably, noticably better than High. Try disabling other performance hits like Space Junk before disabling fancy backgrounds.

I will have another go at the setting when I get home..

Thx for the help

You probably wont be able to get the very high settings on a 440 card

graphics are very clear and quite nice on my fx5600

I downloaded the beta client yesterday and I also noticed that I could not change any graphical setting. However i dont see how a game client setting needs any rights from Windows XP, I am administrator on my own pc and that does not help.

Windows XP SP2
AMD Barton 2500+ @2000 Mhz

It doesn't Dago. I've played it on XPSP2 with a limited account. You guys do know that to change settings, you use the up and down arrows to get to the setting, then the right and left arrows to change it, right? IE: Click Options, Video, Press the down arrow, and press the right arrow twice to increase resolution by two levels.

You simply mean that using the mouse wont work on selecting options?
I have to use the arrowpad?
Gonna try that, thx.

edit: As Vlad corrected me: higher numbers = better graphics.

No I did not know that :(
/me feels like a muppet now
I assumed it was mouse driven i.e. you click on it and such

/me can't wait to get home now :P

RL, i discussed the Background setings with a1k0n a while ago cos switching from High to Very High halved my framerate (in some circumstances). It turns out that on settings upto and equal to "High" all the background objects (planets, rings) are pre-rendered, but on "Very High" they are generated with everything else... this makes a huge difference if there is a big planet in view... The vertex count more than doubled.... I'll stick with "High" for now...

Dont feel like a muppet StoVorKor.
It is quite normal in windows to use the mouse.
Or I should feel like a muppet as well, and i wont do that.

Phaserlight: Not any more. We changed it so that it makes more sense. 20 is the best, now, for those settings.

-Well crap, no wonder my FPS is so low.

I would also suggest to make it possible to change the configuration with the mouse. It's confussing.

And I would vote for merging video and graphics together.
