When

Okies when Vendetta goes gold (released)will there be pilots available as mentors?
even with this beta its been very hard to find 1 and if all Vets are levelling up an making cash ,real newbs will be rather lost in space.
I do think there should be pilots who register as mentors and you can find them by say a [/Mentor ? ] command, which shows mentors available
newbs always make their first impressions of a game in the first few days and if they have enough help they tend to stay longer than those that dont.
Just my few cents worth

"Soon"

That's a cool Suggestion, which is why I will be moving this to Suggestions shortly.

In the meantime: Who is willing to mentor players?

-I will! Sherpa

Anyone else?

i have mentored several players, both using the /mentor command and just by trying to give advice.

part of the problem is that there are really only about 70 "vets" and well over 1000 noobs. many of the problems that we see now will be alleviated by the current "noob" crop being ready to help with the mentoring by release :)

I've already mentored one new player and am willing to mentor more. Doesnt matter what Nation you are but Neutral Territories is preferred. If you are looking, PM me by typing /msg "Kestrel" "Can u mentor me?" or whatever.

I've mentored one Sercan noob directly and I've been helping others with simple advice. Feel free to PM me in game if you need anything.

I was supposed to adapt the /mentor command to allow you to set yourself available as a mentor and to be notified when somebody needs one. That kinda fell off my todo list accidentally; it's back on.

Message "green cactus" ingame, I'll help you out.
If you don't know how to send private messages to people, it goes like this:

/msg "green cactus" Hello!

Replacing "green cactus" with whatever the name is. If it's more than one word, the quotes are necessary, but if the name is only one word (no spaces) the quotes aren't necessary.

I'm willing to mentor anyone who wants help
but with the flooding of channel 100 it's hard to keep up with who needs it.

/msg Aon Hi
if you're new and would like some help

or just go right ahead and invite me as your mentor. :D

Also, I think it will help when we add tangible rewards for mentoring. I've got a simple one planned for the coming weeks.

I'd be up for it. Just /msg CrippledPidgeon me. I may be busy botting, so if I don't reply within 5 minutes, send the message again. I'll try to disengage long enough to reply.

I play as Captain Combustible, and I wouldn't mind mentoring someone if they need it. Just msg me when I'm on.

/msg Spider please show me the meaning of piracy?

I've taken to mentoring people that are off the mentor-scale who wish to learn the finer points of PvP and piracy.

I'm available to help out. I'm also a pirating instructor if anyone wants to learn.

Could a moderator move the mentor offers to a Sticky post marked Mentors available ?
It may be very useful to other newbs like me an will be easy to find:)

I think if more new players would ask for a mentor, instead of just spouting questions to channel 100 things would go a lot smoother.

Wavey, you seem to be one of the few noobies who even knows about the mentoring process, or cares enough to want one.
I have helped many people in the game with or without asking them to be their mentor, I think it's primarily up to the new player to ask.

I suspect Wavey has mentored 'elsewhere' ;)

Just a bit Fian:)
Cam ,Maybe the first message Newbs should get is "Need Help Get a Mentor just type /Mentor ? and you will see whos available"
Or possibly pilots who sign up as helpers just for answering questions and a command for that ie /help :)
Ive found channel 100 not much use really ,its a general convo chan ,If its quiet u can get a reply but it can get very busy.Newbs need sooo many answers:)
Maybe a default channel that is monitored by mentors/helpers
In another game(TM)after you had mentored a few peeps succesfully you got messages every time a new player docked.
Now this was very usefull and could be annoying to some tho.
The first few days are the hardest and its so important to keep someone interested so that they dont give up and walk away.

maybe a popup of the nearest mentors in a 2 system radius.

/mentor available
Makes you show up on that list, when you guys do /mentor that turns off, but as soon as your done it will ask do you want to continue mentoring? or something like that
