It was forced upon me...

Bojan, any serco who run when out of flares in a dogfight are not true serco and should be dishoned from thier nation. And FYI, I never run when out of flares, unless I'm protecting a voy and making a pitstop along the way. Your words have no basis.

ahem stop stating that the prom is uber.

its only uber because it has 1 setup that nulliefies all its weaknesses, take out that combo and the prom is far less uber and easilly taken out even by a dumb valk.

I once turned and ran when I ran out of flares... but in my defence:

a) I'm not a 'true' serco, nor even a serco :)

b) I was outnumbered 5:1 by a gank squad of honourable Itani.

Well Calder, sure your fellow sercos wont admit they run with their proms when out of flares/nobody likes declaring himself a coward/ but.....,if my word means anything, I witnessed a lot of serco proms running like that.
Funny thing is...its not serco newbies that are running, they usually stay and fight to the bitter end, its the vets.

LOL Priapus that's 'cause you backroll in a PROM. A PROM!!! Apparently we just needed more folks to fix you into position, that was all.

Not equipping a Prom with an AGT is kind of like going into combat in your Tank but refusing to use the main gun, relying on the machine gun only. That's silly.

And that's why you're silly, Spellcast...

i'm personally fond of the dual gauss screamer combo myself leber.

Tut.

Not happy with proms, not happy with agt, not happy with proms with agt, not happy with proms without agt...

If I tied one arm behind my back, painted a target on my ass and sat upside down in the cockpit of an unarmed, stationary freebus in the middle of B8 you'd probably still complain I had one hand free.

Check out the date on this thread :

And... for those who still defend the prom, a sample from Ctishman : "Give it time before rushing to re-nerf our ship."

....cue 1 year later...

Whee. Look we are having the same discussion!

We need level-headed rational thinkers like yourself to come back, softy!

No, Priapus, we're just not happy with YOU. Makes no diff what ship you fly. Backrollers of any ilk are just annoying. You should know better...
Jan 23, 2006 who? me? link
yeah backrollers suck. besides, if you do that how do you expect to hit the person?
Jan 23, 2006 moldyman link
I dunno, ask Jan. He seems to be able to do both.
Jan 23, 2006 icbm1987 link
I not like AGT...

And Zoras doesn't fly proms because the L R port spread just freaks him out... it's like he's flying an F-ing vulture... and it's hard to hit stuff with energy equipped in those ports for me for some reason...
Jan 23, 2006 LeberMac link
I'm too lazy to fight a backroller for 20 minutes. It bores me. It's more fun to fix their position and then call in fire support to eliminate them. Far easier.
Jan 23, 2006 icbm1987 link
Just a note... "ganking" isn't dishonorable except in a duel.

in most situations... the proper term is "teamwork." and I've seen both sides do it... so don't just think I'm justifying any serco teamwork efforts.

A backroller threat is cause for needing some teamwork.
Jan 23, 2006 Shapenaji link
well, backrollers have nothing on an AGT, unless the user is boneheaded enough to keep autoaim on.

Backrolling doesn't work, period.
Jan 23, 2006 Priapus link
::shrugs::

You do what ya gotta. If it takes half the Itani nation to take on a relative newb flying first a prom (not convinced I was), then wraiths, hornets, possibly a vult, and you have to chase them half way round greyspace, and rail them as they exit a station, so be it.

What's so difficult about fighting a backroller, anyway? A backroller can't turbo, you can (in short bursts, to avoid fire), so where's the problem?

...and I don't constantly backroll anyway, I just control the distance and close it when I'm good and ready.

But hey, whatever, the ganking is kinda fun anyway.

"The valk, isn't as good in solo combat, (unless you have a VERY talented pilot,) but you have no chance whatsoever when trying to run from or after it."

Why would you run from a valk? Sure, it can catch things, but what do you think is going to happen when a valk "catches" a prom? The prom turns around and says, "Congrats, you caught me." And then shreds the valk with its gat turret.

A lot of good being able to chase something does.

The way things are now, the cent should be the Itani special ship, not the valk. It can do everything better than the valk can with the exception of "chasing". Some might argue the valk has stronger hull, but I think we all know how difficult a cent is to hit. Its small shape and manuverability more than makes up for it's one less weapon and 3,800 less armor.

However, I do agree the prom would be balanced if it weren't for the possibility of the AGT/Flare combo. And yes, anyone who flies a prom without an AGT is essentially going into battle with one arm tied behind their back. The funny part is that they still win most of the time. So who needs the other arm?
Jan 23, 2006 Will Roberts link
IMO, the Flare/GT combo is a match made in heaven. It kicks butt on, not just the prom, but the Hog and the AltasX, as well. Especially with a pilot that knows how to use it correctly (I'm still learning).
Unfortunately, it's a combo that don't fit on Valks, Vults and Cents, which classically like to fight up-close. Not a good idea against this combo.
Jan 23, 2006 Shapenaji link
Well, nothing really works against it, that's the problem, very little skill with MASSIVE payoff.
Jan 23, 2006 Ghost link
Agreed. Not something you'd want in a skill-based FPS. Especially because then the skilled pilots are unstoppable with it. Thus there becomes no point in having more than 2 different weapons.
