14th Nation War

May 12, 2006 moldyman link
RULES:

1) As far as ships and weapons go, only two weapons are banned: Chaos Sawrm Missiles and Locust Swarm Missiles. This is done to recognize the "beep effect" in combat, ie scaring your opponent with all the target lockon alerts.

2) No running for obcene distances. This is subjective, but honestly.. I'll call it if you go out beyond 3,000 meters of anyone. This rule is flexible and bendable, but do not abuse it.
Better guide, don't go outside of the asteroid field.

3) Once you are dead, you are out. You may return to watch, but must announce this over sector comm.

4) Once you leave the sector you are out. This means no repairing at a station, no reloading and no jumping out to jump back in when your team wins.

5) The prize is two million credits, split among the qualifying survivors ONLY! If you have broken a rule above but have survived, don't expect to get credits.

6) The Nation War Event takes place in Sedina D-2 at the time of 11pm GMT (10pm GMT during Daylight Savings Time) on Sundays between three teams, each team representing a nation.

7) Team leaders are participants in the event, who represent their team when I speak to them. I expect them to be honest.

8) Things may change due to unavoidable circumstances. Always follow the instructions of Blue Streak or Erik C. , whichever one of my alts run the event (Usually the former)

9) If a participant is hated by their own nation, they have may go on any of the teams (including their nation's team) so long as they are A) Liked by that nation (Ignore if you join your own nation's team) and B) Announce it beforehand, to myself and/or the participants. This keeps everyone in the know.

10) No interfering with playability in the War sector. this includes (but is not limited to): Cargo drops

I modified the time. Hope to see you there

Ok, sorry for the double post, but this one has nothing to do with my last one. Moldy, how about for either this one of the next one, we change it so that you can't come back to watch. That adds more strategy and reduces confusion considerably. The last one was TOTALLY hectic, we couldn't even figure out who was dead!

I don't think I will be able to make it this time. Mothers day stuff.
Sorry :(

Spaceranger(Team Leader)
Ecka Estenk
Hortan
Nerde Verde

Surbius Bondevo

thurisaz

The War:

Well, I quickly took heavy damage after rushing into the fight with my team. Beforehand, we had made a pact with the UIT to engage the Serco first until they were mostly gone. So with this in mind, we began to engage targets. A-Dawg was the only Serco Prometheus pilot, so he was Priority #1. After doing some damage to him and zooming through his explosion (thanks to my teammates), I was down to half armor. A few shots from behind brought me to 12% and then 0% o.o;

So I did the only thing I could do: Run in little circles. I took up the role of leader and took in the sorroundings, since I didnt have to fight. Using the intel, I pointed out targets and strategies. Seeing we were spread out, I grouped us up on Niki, who was pursuing Ayn Eziert. It took a few short minutes but we got him. Next we tried space hunter. Problem is, this guy can run you in little circles for a very long time. By the time he was taken out the UIT had begund to attack us. Our numbers were quickly wittled and I was taken down (finally).

When I came back, Niki was alone wih the UIT team minus one. Niki came dodging and weaving, taking down Spaceranger's Prometheus. But the numbers crunched him and the UIT team won, with six people left. My only kill of the night was Redlac in a bus, who was engaged with one of my live teamates. As for that, it happened. It's over. Can;'t change the past. Next time, if someone is in a freebus, use common sense. Don't fire on them. And if they fire on you, just fly away. It's a freaking freebus!

The Results:

The UIT team won with a staggering six survivors. Congratualtions to Ecka Estenk, Nerde Verde, Proximity, Surbius Bondevo, Swithun and thurisaz. They each recieved 350,000 credits for their skill and bravery.

The Records:

Itani - 5 wins
Serco - 5 wins
UIT - 6 wins

Damnit, that was an EMBARASMENT! Borb, you owe me one mil, and your strategy stunk. No offence, :D It's always nice to try new things, but that's why I was trying to get people to come to practice. So we don't choke up and try a stupid new strategy during the war.

Exactly moldy, it's just a bus. What harm can it do? It's not like I attacked him in the first place.

[EDIT] To all Itani and Serco pilots: we are warriors, we can't let these corporate bastards get the better of us!
May 14, 2006 Borb II link
Heh, well you could have always taken command.

As for my after action report, the Serco had a large number of pilots some thing many Serco saw as a benefit and some thing that was ultimately our down fall. Our plan was based around a small group as I had first thought we would end up with, how ever as the numbers increased organization and control became more difficult.

The Itani and the UiT seeing our large numbers made an alliance that was pivotal in the out come of the war, my Intel assessment of the two enemy teams lead me to believe egos would play a role and an alliance would not happen with the two enemies, how ever when the combined UiT and Itani forces slammed in to my boys in a horrific and at the same time glorious onslaught I knew my worse fear had come true and we where hopelessly out numbered.

That said the gents in red made a great showing lasting far longer then I'll admit I thought they would all things considered and taking many with them.

I would like to take full responsibility for the out come of the battle, how ever I would encourage the Serco not to look at this as a loss but a victory, for it is only in defeat that you can truly learn to win. Evaluate every thing my warrior brothers, weight it all, then come to the next war wiser.

Commander Borb Sarken.

Borb, I respect you and I'm not trying to start a flame war here, but we need to get some things straight.

"Heh, well you could have always taken command."
I tried, and you insisted on your strategy

"As for my after action report, the Serco had a large number of pilots some thing many Serco saw as a benefit and some thing that was ultimately our down fall. Our plan was based around a small group as I had first thought we would end up with, how ever as the numbers increased organization and control became more difficult."
I saw this, and that is exactly why I thought Shape's uh... diplomatic initiative (you know what I mean) would have worked better.

"The Itani and the UiT seeing our large numbers made an alliance that was pivotal in the out come of the war, my Intel assessment of the two enemy teams lead me to believe egos would play a role and an alliance would not happen with the two enemies, how ever when the combined UiT and Itani forces slammed in to my boys in a horrific and at the same time glorious onslaught I knew my worse fear had come true and we where hopelessly out numbered."
Ok, so your intel was wrong. But 5 or 10 minutes before the battle, I told you that I KNEW, (not revealing my source, but thank you) the UIT and Itani had an alliance.

"That said the gents in red made a great showing lasting far longer then I'll admit I thought they would all things considered and taking many with them."
I agree. Great job youguys, we were stuck between a rock and a hard place, you performed admirably. On the other hand, this was our best chance in a while, we had almost as many players as both teams combined. We just needed more than brute force.

"I would like to take full responsibility for the out come of the battle, how ever I would encourage the Serco not to look at this as a loss but a victory, for it is only in defeat that you can truly learn to win. Evaluate every thing my warrior brothers, weight it all, then come to the next war wiser"
Thank you for taking responsibility Borb, and your words ring true. As I said earlier, I would have prefered to have these "learning victories" in practice... so... SHOW UP PEOPLE! :D

-Redlac/Calder

[EDIT] I just looked back on my post, I'm sorry if I was a bit harsh. For time's sake, I'm not going to revise it for politeness, sorry... Hope you're not offended, :D
May 14, 2006 moldyman link
Egos!?! Noooooo, never! o.o! >_>

Ya know, I did come forward and talk to Viper initially for an alliance as well. Oh well. Ya lie ya learn.
May 14, 2006 Surbius link
Ah yes, t'was a good fight... just wish that those who run around would fight the 'one' that chases them (its hard work running down Forrest Gumps).
Now on with the show! The battle went somewhat like this if it were played out in a square match ring. The three men stand there in a little triangle perimeter with 4 feet between each of them. The Itani looking somewhat feeble but knowingly strong minded, the Serco all tight faced with implants buldging, and the UIT with a look that could out-cool Zaphod Beeblebrox. The first seconds are quiet from all three men with the Itani's eyes closed and meditating, the Serco glaring back and forth at the Itani and UIT, and the UIT still with a smirk looking back and forth casualy.
Faces change dramatically when the Itani and UIT stare at each other with confidence and the Serco wondering, "What the hell is going on?". *ding* The bell rings with the first two punches from the Itani and UIT right on with the Serco's forehead and he is out-cold from the beginning. With the Serco out-cold, the Itani and UIT square off ready for anything from each other, UIT bluffs in a flank move on the Itani, who then over compensates on how far the UIT was going to move and leaves himself open for a dead-on punch knocking him out-cold like the Serco. *ding ding ding* UIT wins!
Any day fellas.

Hortan read the orders....
Team up with Proximity and take out Zorg. It was going to be one of those nights. Two beers and a half bottle of vodka later, the hands didn't shake as much.
Knowing that he would last about 2 minuttes Hortan found a fresh sixpack and checked the auto dock in the pilot recovery system.
Over the comms system the etheral voice of the commander gave the GO and Hortan floored the pedal. His trusty jet black (in the vain hope that he would be harder to see) Vult "Certain Death VI" leapt after Proximity towards Zorg. Hortan saw Proximity go high and decided to go left. That however led the right wing directly into the path of stray shots from Borb. Shaking the machine to the left got him out of the stray shots, but also got Certain Death VI a good distance from Zorg. Remembering that the mission was to engage Zorg at all costs, Hortan engaged the Turbo. As Zorg was busy fighting Proximity, the Certain Death could easily sneak up on him from behind. Hortan engaged with the canons but missed, re aligned and missed again. This time Zorg had moved away from Hortan and he once more had to turbo. While engaging the turbo, he accidentaly hit the sixpack from the console so it fell directly onto the firing stud for the canons. Hortan quickly picked the pack up and saw that Zorg had been destroyed by the beer shot...
THE FIRST KILL!
Hortan popped a can to celebrate, and so forgot to check his 6. Where Cygnus was waiting... Ka-Boom

Fun fight all. Next time I'll survive in "Certain Death VII"

Yay good fun , thanks again Erik.

I seemed to spend a lot of time trying to chase folk about , this week it all seemed a bit more spread out . Still, thats probably how I managed to survive.

Oh , and sorry to Viper 88 who I shot when he came back in a bus to watch. Put it down to " eek , target in front , shoot " syndrome......

cheers

Haha, don't worry about upsetting me Redlac, I enjoy questions, they help further cement my views.

By the time you started advising I was already in command and felt that to many changes would add confusion to the over all plan and make things harder for us, so I opted to stick with KISS as much as I could with what was already a moderately complex plan.

As for Shapes ideas, I opted again not to use it for fear due to our numbers we would have been um lied to, so for safety I opted again not to take your advice.

As for your Intel, are you sure you told me? I honestly can't remember that or else the plan would have changed a little at the least.

And as I said don't worry about sounding harsh, I took the unofficial role of leader fully knowing if the plan worked I would be a hero and if not I would take flack, it's the nature of the beast and I welcome any comments on my actions.

Also any chance you could change the date of the training to a later time and possibly move it up to Deneb that way we could work on large scale group tactics vs live human players of the same scale. (If you don't believe me you should visit the border some time it's nice and hot up there just like I like it.)
May 15, 2006 Person link
Sure Borb, I can move it up to Deneb, then I can use Calder too and youguys can practice all attacking me. :D As for a different time... sorry. I leave for school at 7, so 6-7 is my only real free-time for VO, (after school, my parents only let's me play for a half hour, and only that on specific days).
