what is it about PHP?

What I don't like that isn't really PHP's fault is that Yahoo!'s implementation of it has like a 4 second startup delay. A client wanted some AJAX style stuff added to his store site (a dynamically generated autocomplete drop down thingy) and I ended up rewriting the backend from PHP to Perl. The functionality was the same and the PHP code was easier to write (more canned SQL functions) but that delay really killed the whole point of it.
Since then I've run the same PHP code elsewhere and it's perfectly snappy. I'm fairly sure that Yahoo! just happens to suck.

PHP really sounds like the name of a drug... Go off on a tirade to newbies about how horrible and addictive PHP is! 'tis quite fun.
Having formerly worked for Yahoo! WebHosting, I can confirm that, Hoax. Yahoo! does indeed suck. They're not the worst, though.

PHP is just another language. It's extremely easy to write and interfaces well with the web. But give me Ruby any day. :P

Really all this time I thought it was Pot Head Punks.
And PCP is nasty stuff back when I was in school (7th? I think) a couple kids died from it.

Ok, ok lets set the story straight. PHP stands for Programmers High on Pot. Cuz half the time I have no idea what they're talking about. But seriously, after I learn binds, can someone teach me really basic stuff.My school doesn't teach it (%&*@^#(&*@#^&*(^$&^*(@$%@$^$@).
