VO to KSP ship replication thread

Jun 08, 2013 Faille Corvelle link
So, to get practice designing ships in KSP, (as in, getting used to how the build process works), I decided to try to replicate some ships from VO in KSP. I encourage others to do the same and post the results here. Please state whether the replicated ships are static models only, or if they can actually fly.

To get the ball rolling, what better ship for me to try to copy than my fave, the CV. This is my first attempt, but as this is my signature ship, I'm hoping to refine the design, and get it looking closer to the "real" thing...
It can get airborne, but not for long, and is a cow to control...

And a quick attempt at a Warthog. This won't fly, due to asymmetrical thrust. It explodes beautifully though...

I approve this awesome thread

I had to fudge this Raptor just a little to get it airworthy (yes it runs on jets not rockets - they look closer to the actual model).

It flies terribly, by the way. Those last two images where it looks like I'm being Ace McAwesome? Actually I had tried to turn, totally lost control of the craft, and began spiraling into the ocean. Made for some nice shots though :)

Rest in peace, Landen Kerman.

That is beautiful! I'm in awe of your ability to put things where you want them!

So, the KSP Raptor files about as well as the VO Raptor?

I agree. I'm jealous of these, but too busy to participate at the moment.

My latest, A Ragnarok.
Flies like half a house-brick, and flips on a dime.

Equipped with torpedoes too, nice.

Yeah, 2 big'uns, and 6 little ones (hard to see, but there's a stack of 3 between the fuselage and the outer nacelles.

This was fun, its a re-skin of the one above. I call it a Ridgebak Ragnarok.

I built a trident, but I haven't managed to get it into space yet.

It has about 2300 parts, so it runs slooooow, which makes testing things and editing painful. I think I'm going to have to break it in half where the nose meets the rear, add some docking ports, send the halves up individually, and then join them together in orbit.

Incidentally, while this has been the most painful ship I've worked with so far, it has also been the most amusing to watch as it crashes. I didn't back up a copy of the VTOL version, which was able to hover long enough for the forward velocity to build up... at which point it would start slooowly spinning out of control and sometimes even rip itself apart before hitting the ground. I wish I'd taken some screenshots of those times, but still images wouldn't have done it justice anyway.
