Knighting of the Guide

Feb 12, 2005 Fnugget link
If any non guide person was selected to become a guide, who would you want it to be? Why?

Who? Spellcast.
Why? He's Rational, friendly and helpful, and even when he's frustrated, he is far calmer than most players I know.

I agree, I don't think I've ever seen a post by Spell that I didn't respect.

I would just like to take a moment to point out that allowing players to choose thier own guides/moderators is more or less counterproductive in the long run.

I'm sure the developers have suitable canidates in mind for when they need to add more guides.

Aside from the fact that they're almost all Sercos (ctishman, RelayeR, Whistler), I don't have a problem with the way devs have been choosing guides. I haven't seen any guides doing anything particularly against the rules (besides allowing me to test the extents of the devwarping functionality... heh, I even found some bugs!). Devs know best.

SL's a guide, and I'm pretty sure he isn't Serco. :P

Yah, not Serco, last I checked. Also, it isn't in Serco's favor, it's just who got chosen.

Let's get back on topic, please.

The point Spell raises is quite valid. Instead of nominating a guide, show that you are capable by your in-game and forum actions.

I believe that is how we were chosen.

If I was going to choose a new guide it would be me.

Id honestly never abuse any of the powers given to me.

Well, except for maybe /oper kill "Niki" ; oper kill "Eldrad" ; oper kill (The rest of the itani nation) =D

I didn't intend for this person to be actually chosen, nor the dev's to use this to choose. Just to give something to those people who deserve it. Something like, who is your VO idol, in the sense of being a good person, not combat skill. Hats of to you pillars of society! Today we salute you!

I was approached first by the devs and asked to be a guide.

Quite some time later, I was asked for a list of players I thought would make good guides. The devs compared my list with their own lists, and after some discussion, certain players were invited to be guides. I made my choices based on cool-headedness, diplomacy, attitude, predictability, and a general knowledge of the game.

Aye, I figured that was the reason, FM. Most of the guides are very level (at times they flip, but they are calm when they do too) And quite well-liked people in the community.

I don't necessarily think that voting for a guide is a good idea either, since that is popularity, more than responsibility.

As for Spellcast getting me for this? You're welcome to try, I've got a Prom and I'm not afraid to use it.

Then, Fnugget, start a new thread with that theme..."Who is your VO Idol, and why?"
