Vendetta Client slow to start - Problems connecting to server

May 03, 2005 skystrider link
I tried several times, over the last three hours, to connect to the server, without success. When i start the Vendetta client it takes longer than normal to initialise, eventually i get the log in screen but the mouse pointer is frozen, and i cannot input my password. After a few minutes the mouse can move but when i put in my password it takes so long for anything to happen i get times out by the server.

I am running an iMac 1.25GHz G4 with 1gig of RAM, OSX 10.3.9 -my connection is ADSL 1 Mbps .

I had the same problem a few days ago, and tried downloading and reinstalling the vendetta client, which seemed to improve matters, but as this has happened again, i am a bit confused about what to do next. Any suggestions, and has anyone else been experiencing the same problems?

If you have a firewall of any type (software or router-based) try shutting it down. If that helps then you will need to manually configure it to allow the client.

Thanks for the reply, but even witht the firewall off i still get this problem, and I have been connecting and playing VO for months now without any problems, nothing has changed in my computer setup , and I have not added any new software or hardware recently.

Hmmm, you may want to read this and follow the steps for a traceroute:

Actually this sounds like it has nothing whatsoever to do with networking and more to do with the client running very slowly, due to rendering or whatever. It almost sounds like your CPU is overheating and throttling to a lower speed, or maybe your video card is, or maybe it's just having trouble loading from the drive.

Something seems.. not right with your computer in any case. I guess the simplest thing I'd try first is to turn it off, let it cool down, restart and immediately run the game and see if it loads right up.

Run Norton Disk Doctor if you can.
Do you have a lot of icons in your desktop/Dock?

I had the same problem today with my powerbook. I did as a1k0n suggested and let it cool down. When I booted back up, everything worked fine.

Yeah. I was going to say that notebooks in particular will throttle their CPU speed when they are running hot but he mentioned he had a desktop machine in the original post.
